Koha 3 from non zebra to zebra, if at all possible
by Marty 26 Feb '10

26 Feb '10

While I really do like Koha, I have now run into something I don't seem to be able to solve. The issue is that while I managed to get Koha 3 running without Zebra, it is very sluggish, to a degree that it is barely workable, but I don't seem to be able to get it running WITH zebra. Each and every search results in 'no results found'. Yes, zebra is running (ps -ef | grep returns: biblios@debian:~$ ps -ef | grep zebrasrv koha 2442 1 0 11:55 ? 00:00:00 daemon --name=koha-zebra-ctl.koha --errlog=/var/log/koha/koha-zebradaemon.err --stdout=/var/log/koha/koha-zebradaemon.log --output=/var/log/koha/koha-zebradaemon-output.log --verbose=1 --respawn --delay=30 --user=koha koha -- /usr/bin/zebrasrv -v none, fatal, warn -f /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml koha 2444 2442 0 11:55 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/zebrasrv -v none, fatal, warn -f /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml biblios 3278 3173 0 13:25 pts/0 00:00:00 grep zebrasrv) Yes, I have done rebuild_zebra.pl (which ALWAYS ends with zebraidx[3185] [warn] Record didn't contain match fields in (bibl,Local-number) , is it supposed to? ) I also restored the kohastructure.sql on somebody's advice. No gain there. I have a backup file from my nozebra box, but no matter what I do, after restoring it, it never runs with zebra. Backup files are made with mysqldump Koha > date_koha.sql from the nozebra box, then restoring it with koha < date_koha.sql. This obviously does restore my database, but also includes all nozebra settings. koha error logs: biblios@debian:/var/log/koha$ cat koha-zebraqueue.err 20100116 19:32:48 koha-zebraqueue-ctl-koha: client (pid 28978) killed by signal 15, stopping 20100116 21:36:12 koha-zebraqueue-ctl-koha: client (pid 2413) killed by signal 15, stopping 20100203 10:30:58 koha-zebraqueue-ctl-koha: client (pid 2384) killed by signal 15, stopping 20100203 11:54:49 koha-zebraqueue-ctl-koha: client (pid 2387) killed by signal 15, stopping biblios@debian:/var/log/koha$ cat koha-zebraqueue-output.log DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Table 'koha.zebraqueue' doesn't exist at /usr/share/koha/bin/zebraqueue_daemon.pl line 123. Re: [Koha] No results for Authorities
by Pauline Martin 26 Feb '10

26 Feb '10

Thank you all for your assistance. I contacted Liblime and found out that it is a bug. Here is the explanation: I've been able to identify this as a bug in the version of Koha you're running (3.0.2). It has not been fixed in Version 3.0.6. The bug is that the release maintainer has updated the headings search to use Headings-main in the code and he updated the ABS style of indexing, but did not update the files for the DOM style of indexing. Therefore, all headings searches and authority support in general is broken in Koha since at least version 3.0.2. Does anyone have a fix for this? Sincerely, Pauline Pauline Martin Librarian/Archivist The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza 411 Elm Street Dallas, TX 75202-3308 Phone: (214) 747-6660 x6646 Fax: (214) 747-6662 Email: paulinem(a)jfk.org Website: www.jfk.org From: Pauline Martin Sent: Monday, February 22, 2010 2:29 PM To: koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz Subject: No results for Authorities Hello, We are new to Koha and subscribed to Koha Express through Liblime (Koha 3.00.02). When I try to create new authorities under "Authorities" and search for it, I get "no results found." I searched through documentation and support archived discussions but did not find an answer. I see this in Koha's manual: Query authority file when adding/editing a record (during cataloging) The Bibliographic editor allows queries to the authority file at the add/edit stage of a record, so that cataloging staff can create the links between a bibliographic and authority record when they are cataloging. If you wish to provide access to authority records for a given subfield -- MARC 21's 700a subfield, for instance, to make sure an author's name is available in an added entry in its approved form -- you will need to create a subfield "9" for that tag (e.g. tag 700, subfield 9). This is done by adding the subfield via the 'Authority types' administration module. * Get there: More > Administration > Authority types * TIP: Make sure this subfield is managed in the same tab as the other managed subfields for this tag, and then click the "hidden" checkbox so it will not be displayed with the rest of the record. Koha uses subfield 9 to store the link between a bibliographic record and an authority record. When the catalogers are adding a record, they will see three dots (...) after the textbox of the 700a subfield (or any field you have chosen to add a subfield 9 to). Clicking on these dots will open a pop-up window allowing the cataloger to search your authority records for a standardized version of the author's name. If the desired name is found in your authority records, it can be automatically copied into the 700a subfield. (If the desired name is not found, the cataloger can enter the name manually.) If I want to create an authority for 100a, does that mean I need to add a subfield 9 to field 100 in Authority Types? Can anyone help me? Segmentation fault when installing Koha 3.00.02
by Otis, Perry W Civ USAF AETC AUL/LTIA 25 Feb '10

Hi all, I'm new to Koha and trying to set it up on a Ubuntu 9.10 system. When I run 'perl Makefile.PL' it gets as far as "Checking if your kit is complete... Looks good" and then I get a segmentation fault. Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks. //SIGNED// PERRY OTIS Systems Librarian Muir S. Downloading Reports
by Doreen Bailey 25 Feb '10

25 Feb '10

Hello all, Maybe someone can explain to me why when I download a CSV report from Koha Reports Wizard, whether using Build, Saved, or New from SQL, I only get to row 10000 in Excel. Is that an Excel thing? A Koha thing? Or something unique to our network set up? We are running 3.01.00.032 on a local server. I looked in the Manual and found nothing to help me, but that might just mean that I didn't look in the right place. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Bernardo! I'll try the 3.00.05 version. I'm getting it right now from http://download.koha.org/koha-3.00.06.tar.gz. Some questions: 1 - Will my database backup work with this version? I have about 27,000 items... 2 - Does version 3.00.05 have the same dependencies of the 3.00.04 one? 3 - Did you solve your problems using this version? Thanks again! Problem checking out to some patrons
by Chris Morrison 25 Feb '10

25 Feb '10

Here's an odd issue. We are running 3.0.05 (Zebra), and everything is going pretty smoothly. A new problem has come up, though, that Koha won't let us check out to some patrons. When we scan or type in a barcode, a thin yellow box--the kind that usually contain message dialoges--appears with no information. It doesn't matter what items we scan, it always returns to the same screen without checking the item out. Here is a link to screenshot so you can see exactly what we are talking about: http://www.lru.edu//UserFiles/Documents/Library/kohascreenshot.jpg There are no error messages in any of the logs in /var/log/koha. The only way we have been able to resolve the issue is to delete the account and recreate it. Thoughts?

Error in Koha 3.00.04.019
by Leonardo Bruno 24 Feb '10

24 Feb '10

Hi everyone! I installed Koha 3.00.04.019 from the official package available at koha.org in a Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 server. Everything was fine from the 'tar -zxf ...' to 'make install'. Web configuration too. But something weird is happening: sometime after the installation proccess is done, the system just stop work correctly. Symptoms are loss of the language configuration (it returns to English, though I have configured Portuguese), the home page aspect on browser seems like a 'CSS file' is missing and doesn't show the top right links and infos (Logout, Set Library and who's logged in), and some pages/buttons stop work (eg. Home › Circulation › Checkouts that shows a blank page). Some parts seems to work nomally like 'Home › Patrons › Search Results' and 'Home › Tools'. It's very very frustrating since I instaled Koha 5 times due this problem! The time between installation and error vary from days to hours. And I neither rebooted the server nor Apache/MySQL. Attachments are the 'Server information' and 'Perl modules' sections of 'About Koha' and a screenshot of my Koha homepage. Any help? Thanks in advance. -- Sistema de Antivirus do CEFET-MG: Esta mensagem foi verificada pelo sistema de antivirus e acredita-se estar livre de perigo.

Patron Barcode Question
by Nicole Engard 24 Feb '10

24 Feb '10

Hi all, Got a question today that I never thought about before ... but it's a good one -- Where do patron barcodes come from? How do they know where to start? And how do they know how to increment? The answer will of course go in the manual for others to learn from. Thanks Nicole
