New to Koha list; 852/952 marc problem
by Bernie Levy 15 Jul '10

15 Jul '10

My name is Bernie and I am the IT Specialist for a non-profit historical society which also has a library. I am responsible for the library's (and other) computers as well as the library software which they use. This software is Surpass which we have used for years. For the last couple of years, our city's public library has been kind enough to accept full or partial exports of our database which they then have imported into their system, making it look like our library is a branch of the public library, and displaying our materials in their catalog. This worked fine until the public library switched to using Koha a few months ago. Now they are telling me that certain fields, which are all or mostly 852 sub-fields in our system, have to be 952 sub-fields in their system or otherwise they can't successfully import our data. I do not understand this, especially because Surpass support insists that any fields in the 900 range are non-standard and are user-defined. I have done an appropriate Google search and turned up a number of hits on the subject but I don't see how or why I have to massage my data before it can be imported into a Koha system. Thank you. Re: [Koha] passwords
by Scott Owen 14 Jul '10

If the password are still just MD5 hashed (I'm still using 2.2.9 on windows..so I have little info on current versions)...., last time I did this, I had to do a bulk MD5 hash on my patron passwords , then bulk import patron data from a CSV (with the hashed passwords) via MySQL rather than use the built in tools. Worked fine. -Scott Owen Alma Public Schools >>> Chris Nighswonger<cnighswonger(a)foundations.edu> 7/14/2010 11:30 AM >>> Hi John, 2010/7/14 John Simonds <simonj2(a)sage.edu>: > We have uploaded patron records, but koha auto generates passwords, how do > we get around this? Will we have to go in to each record and create a > password or is there a way to do this in a batch? IIRC there is no way to do supply your own passwords in the bulk upload tool. You may want to open a feature request for this at bugs.koha-community.org. I worked in that area of the code back at the end of last year, and such a feature would not be too hard to add. We have uploaded patron records, but koha auto generates passwords, how do we get around this? Will we have to go in to each record and create a password or is there a way to do this in a batch?

Searching problem in 3.2, update
by Amy Schuler 14 Jul '10

14 Jul '10

Hello again, Update to this message: my IT specialist finally got the URL settings to stick. However, this has not solved our searching problem (see next paragraph). So I still welcome your ideas! ________________ I posted a message yesterday about the searching problem I have in 3.2, which is that although the database appears to be populated -- I can view the records in a public list that I had created and also view records by typing URLs in the format http://10.70.0.78/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=7910, altering the bib number to view other records - the records cannot be retrieved through a search. When we search the database, we have the error "No results match your search". I received a couple of responses, suggesting that I check the searching FAQs on koha-community.org and possibly reindex my database (this has been done), and also that I enable the QueryWeightFields pref (this was enabled all along). However, just now I realized that a couple of the sys prefs that I thought I had changed after the 3.2 upgrade had somehow remained at their previous setting. So after the upgrade to 3.2, our OPAC base URL (OPACbaseURL pref) and our staff client URL (StaffClientBaseURL) both changed. I edited both of these but the changes did not take! I tried changing them again, but when I navigate away from the admin page and then check back, the settings have reverted back to the old URLs. Can anyone help? I am *assuming* this is causing the searching problem... Thanks! Amy Amy C. Online demo for 3.2?
by Cab Vinton 14 Jul '10

Is such a beast available anywhere? Looking for demos of both staff client & OPAC, something along the lines of http://www.liblime.com/demos I found something here -- http://www.osslabs.biz/koha_library_management_system/try_koha/demo.html -- but this seems to be for version 3.01 not 3.2 as advertised. Koha and OpenURL Resolvers
by Russell, Katherine 14 Jul '10

14 Jul '10

Hello All - I am working in a library that is considering migrating to Koha from Millennium. We currently use Webbridge as our openURL link resolver and I am looking for alternatives to use if we migrate. Is anyone using a link resolver with Koha? If so, what are you using and are you happy with it? I am interested to hear about proprietary or open source solutions. Thank you for your time!
