Keyword to MARC and Koha to MARC mapping documentation?
by Elaine Bradtke 27 Aug '10

27 Aug '10

Getting closer to actually running Koha! I'm installing 3.2., because I've been told it's more useful for the type of library (small, specialized, complicated interrelationships) catalogue we've got. One of the things I want to do is to be able to search on and link to our 001 fields (control number - these were generated from our original catalogue system). This would enable me to make use the linking ability of the 774 field without having to import everything first so I have the 999c Koha number, and then going back and adding these in where needed. I /think/ the way to do this is through keyword to MARC and Koha to MARC mapping. But I can't find any documentation that explains what these features do, or how to use them. I found that in the Koha to MARC mapping, biblioitems level there is the lccn 010 a LC control number We don't have LC control numbers for any of our material at the moment. If I go in and change this to 001 a it doesn't change the label - which makes me suspicious that I haven't done the correct thing. Is there a way to add a MARC tag to the biblioitems list? Have I missed a step? Is that where the Keywords to MARC comes in? I could really use more information on these features. I feel like I'm blundering around in the dark in the midst of some very delicate machinery, and I don't want to break anything. Thanks -- Elaine

Curious I just got a message saying that a message I posted to the list from this account is awaiting the moderator's decision, because I'm not a member of this list. . . . .gremlins? I've got hundreds of e-mails from this list that seem to imply I am a member. Elaine

Re: [Koha] Staff detailed display
by Owen Leonard 26 Aug '10

Please reply to the list so that everyone can benefit from the conversation. > Koha version 3.00.06. MARC field 100. I see information from field 100 with no problem in the staff client, same version, so it sounds like it might be a problem with your configuration. Are you sure 100a is mapped to Koha's "author" field? Check Administration -> Koha to MARC mapping. You should see a line that says: author | 100 | a | Personal name -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org

Can someone please tell me where to find the file that controls the detailed display in the staff version of the catalogue? I'm not seeing the main author appear, though it does in the public version. Thank you. Andrew Buxton This message is for the addressee only and may contain privileged or confidential information. multiple holds - serials
by Linda Culberson 26 Aug '10

How does one set up to allow a patron to place multiple holds on a single title? This is an issue with serials, where the patron may want to check out a range of issues. NoZebra - Zebra
by stefan 26 Aug '10

26 Aug '10

Dear all We had 3.02, 3.05 and 3.06 running for quite a while with Zebra. All three versions made some problems with deleting, reindexing or performance. We recently switched to NoZebra. Things are working better in functionality, maintainability and performance by now. Since we do not use Koha as search interface, I can't say if Zebra is giving an advantage for (OPAC) end users. But Koha with NoZebra is still worth a try. Regards, Stefan

Problems with imported records via MarcFile created with MArcEdit
by CrEp 26 Aug '10

26 Aug '10

Hi everyone, I'm trying to import a MARC file created via MarcEdit. It is made up of 26544 records. After importing in Koha reports there are 26544 records, but when I search into catalogue I sometimes find 6444 records and other times more records. For example, when I search by title "java" I sometimes find 4 items and sometimes 5 items. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks a lot best wishes -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/Problems-with-imported-records-via-MarcFile-created-w… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

From DBTextworks to Marc records
by Steph Lambert 26 Aug '10

26 Aug '10

Good day everyone Some (possibly) helpful hints in converting DBTextworks to Marc records. Our very clever IT chap has cracked the problem I had with converting the DBTextwork file I had created (which looked fine until the Marcedit was run over it and all the fields just ran into each other)) by doing the following in Marcedit In Marc Delimited Text Translator Choose "Delimited" - comma Text qualifier - " And tick UTF-8 encoded box Then when file is converted and you reach the Marc Tools for edit : Input file C:\ (file name).csv Output file C:\(same file name).mrc And tick Translate to UTF Then execute And it should work (well, it did for me!). Also when doing the first part of the conversion I found that these Export options worked for me Record separator {CR} {LF} Field separator , Entry separator | Quote character " Store field names in first row tick box Hopefully the next step will be less fraught! regards Steph Lambert Information Services Advisor Family Planning - Positive Sexual Health 203-209 Willis Street P.O.
