Re: [Koha] Technical Committee--Option to Fork -- Solr and al.
by Olivier Speciel 09 Nov '10

So there is a new search engine around the block, some clients really need it. (did you mention to them the Constellio open source product ? (Solr+Nutch...) Might be a real improvement, but i haven't read the performance analysis yet, any primary sources ? Works just fine with Resources Description Access, RDF ? SKOS ? SPARQL ? ..... If your clients need Alfresco, indeed, why not forking this product instead ? If we really would like to deal with both, the correct way to do it would be to rewrite for both solR and zebra. Keeping the zebra API&behaviour and using solR instead is just a no-no. -- Paul POULAIN http://www.biblibre.com Expert en Logiciels Libres pour l'info-doc Tel : (33) 4 91 81 35 08 _______________________________________________ Koha mailing list http://koha-community.org Koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz http://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha

Koha - Trouble loading patron files
by Linda Culberson 09 Nov '10

09 Nov '10

I'm having trouble bulk loading patrons files into Koha 3.2. I used the same file I used in 3.1 with no success, so I did one manually, and then set everything to match that. I got the same errors in 3.2. both times: In the staff client, I get that the record was " not imported because they are not in the expected format" and then Critical field "surname" missing (borrowernumber: UNDEF; surname: UNDEF). Authority records searching and deleting
by Elaine Bradtke 09 Nov '10

09 Nov '10

Two questions. In 3.2 1) Is there any way for an authority search to include the used for /see from fields in authority records for topical terms. In other words if someone searches on the incorrect form, it will bring up the record for the correct form (if I've included it)? 2) I have a couple terms that need to be deleted from the authority file. I deleted one, but I can't seem to delete any more. A little pop up comes up asking if I'm sure I want to delete this authority. I click OK, and then if I look again, it's still there (I reloaded the page first). -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 ext 36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Company No. 297142 Charity Registered in England and Wales No. 305999 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" --Elvis Costello (Musician magazine No. 60 (October 1983), p. 52)

Koha: searching for access points in cataloging
by Linda Culberson 09 Nov '10

09 Nov '10

I apologize if I'm not stating my problem clearly, but I'd like to hear from some other users on how they handle searching access points in koha while cataloging. In our current system, we can search both the authority file and a list of headings currently in the catalog (but not in the authorities) while cataloging a record. We have many of our author headings in authorities but our subject headings (many of which are "local") are not. The subject headings were manually removed from the authorities for reasons that I can't discuss. Can someone describe to me (off list, perhaps?) what their work flow is? Thanks in advance. -- Linda Culberson lculber(a)mdah.state.ms.us Archives and Records Services Division Ms. Dept. of Archives& History P. O. Koha 3.02.00 many updatedatabase errors
by Marty 09 Nov '10

09 Nov '10

Was: In koha-3.02.00 where is the cataloguing? After installing koha 3.02.00.004 again, this time from scratch on my test box, everything works fine. However, after putting my backup database in, and it runs updatedatabase.pl it fails miserably (and that's also where my cataloguing page disappears, among other things) Backups are made with mysqldump, is there a way to restore my backup in the new version another way? Or any way where updatedatabase won't fail? I have access to absolutely everything, could I maybe make a selective backup and run that (which tables would I need?) It's a mostly standard install on Debian. See below for errors. ByWater Solutions and Software.coop Collaborating on Koha EDI Support
by Ian Walls 09 Nov '10

09 Nov '10

Dear Koha Community, It is our pleasure to announce that software.coop of Somerset, England and ByWater Solutions LLC of Santa Barbara CA, USA, are partnering to bring Electronic Data Exchange (EDI) to Koha. EDI will greatly increase the functionality of the acquisitions module of Koha by allowing a direct electronic exchange from one entity to another, making processes such as billing and the transmission of purchase orders seamless. It may optionally accept bibliographic records from a vendor, making cataloguing quicker. It was described in the journal "Program: electronic library and information systems" Vol. 44 No. 3, 2010. The EDI code, which was written by software.coop, will be rebased by ByWater Solutions on the current head of the Koha project. The rebased code will be submitted for possible inclusion in the 3.4 release of Koha. Cheers, -Ian -- Ian Walls Lead Development Specialist ByWater Solutions Phone # (888) 900-8944 http://bywatersolutions.com ian.walls(a)bywatersolutions.com Twitter: @sekjal
