Re: [Koha] Proposal to form Koha Technical Committee
Just an FYI, I just spent the last 45 minutes trying to understand how the various RFCs that exist on the wiki relate to the bugs in Bugzilla and could not figure it out. Some are in one place but not the other. I tried to find a hold-related RFC that seemed to match up with items in Bugzilla to no avail. So while I'd be happy to edit the wiki to make it more easy for newbies to understand how to properly register an enhancement so you can get it in the queue on to start promote discussion...I am too much of a newbie to succeed evidently. Salve!
I did look at this and it was very helpful. The questions I still have remain unanswered but this would be the best place to answer those questions. I could work on making some of those changes directly if you like. What is the protocol for editing those pages?
Have you looked at all at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Category:RFCs
It's a wiki. Have at it! If folks don't like it, they'll edit your changes.
Cheers, Brooke

They should look like this http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Add_subscription_serials_RFC As we talked about in the meeting bugs dont exist for all RFC yet, if you find some that don't have bugs attached, pester the people who put the rfc up to fix that. Chris
I am adding the following note in the discussion page for RFCs without Bugs: There needs to be a bugzilla link added to this RFC --~~~~ That adds my note and my signature. Thanks Nicole On Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 7:50 PM, Chris Cormack <chris@bigballofwax.co.nz> wrote:

And I have pestered a few folks already today to add bugs for RFCs w/o them. :-) This is action which everyone can take to help. Kind Regards, Chris On Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 8:17 PM, Nicole Engard <nengard@gmail.com> wrote:

Which items in Bugzilla? Seriously, it is very demotivating to get complaints that things are broken, but not the information about what those things are, so we can't even try to fix them. Many people have been trying to improve linking between the different resources (after years of being held back by previous hosting IMO) but my priority has been on things which will free up developer time. I've started adding comments to bugs with links to patches emails where they don't already exist, for example, to make it easier for people to see what patch emails were sent about a bug. Hope to hear more about which items in Bugzilla soon, -- MJ Ray (slef), member of www.software.coop, a for-more-than-profit co-op. MJ, I didn't make a comprehensive study of the issue and my point was really just to say, it is pretty darn confusing to someone who wants to do it right! To people who have been using Bugzilla and submitting RFCs, it might be perfectly clear. But it is far from clear to me. And I'd like to help make it more clear but I haven't really sorted it out myself yet! I don't mean at all to devalue anyone's hard efforts. I am a big fan of Koha and the community. My goal is to make it easier for more libraries to join the fold so when I see an impediment, I want to at least point it out and help if I can. I will continue to work on this and try to understand the pieces and how their work together. Once I get it, I can make some specific suggestions about how we can make it easier for the next person that is trying to get started. That's great and I welcome it, but I hope you can appreciate that we need a bit more detail on *what* is "pretty darn confusing" for the message to be constructive criticism. Posting vague comments about "items in Bugzilla" isn't helpful. No need to make a comprehensive study, but please cite examples when you refer to them. It may be that we need to improve explanations, or (more likely), it may be that we need to tidy some items in Bugzilla - and it would be good to start with ones that have already confused someone who's trying to help.
