Can't you do a simple find and replace? First, are spaces allowed in the 10 character CCODE? Are there any other restrictions (numerics, underlines, hyphens, etc)? I find nothing (easily) in the documentation. As a comparison, the LOC code allows 80 characters including (at least) spaces. For various historical reasons we have nearly two hundred "categories" spread across 468 spreadsheets - that would be a possible 100,000 "simple search and replace" operations ;={ and I've never had much success with Perl looking for entries in a specific column of a spreadsheet where obviously the "category name" could also appear in the title, keywords and reviews which we obviously do not want to modify. So I'll probably end up attempting to modify the SQL parameter for field length (a task which, from past experience with Oracle, I am not looking forward to.) This is the first major hiccough we have encountered with the data migration and at the moment is a show-blocker. Thanks to you all - all suggestions, etc are warmly welcomed. Paul

Koha hidden subfields showing in opac
by Linda Culberson 30 Nov '10

30 Nov '10

We are on version 3.02.00.007, and I have the 590a set to where it says "Tab:5, Not repeatable, Not mandatory, hidden," with the hidden value set to 4, which I thought meant it did not show up in the opac, but it does indeed appear. I thought that 4 => !OPAC Intranet Editor !Collapsed meant "not visible in OPAC, visible in intranet editor not collapsed" Could someone tell me what I've done wrong? Control number fields (001)
by Elaine Bradtke 30 Nov '10

30 Nov '10

Is there a way to auto generate 001 fields in Koha? We already have numbers that came in with uploaded records from our old database. Anything we download will likely have a control number from the original cataloguing agency - which I'm thinking of modifying by adding a letter prefix, so it can't possibly duplicate what we've already got in the system. But what about original cataloguing? I'd hate to think we just have to guess. . . Just off the top of my head, using YYYYMMDD followed by a two digit sequential number should do the trick. But it would be a lot easier if something like that could be auto generated. It's unlikely we would ever have more than one person cataloguing at once, but one never knows. -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 ext 36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Company No. 297142 Charity Registered in England and Wales No. 305999 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" --Elvis Costello (Musician magazine No. 60 (October 1983), p. 52)

Script Error when importing MARC records from Z39.50 servers
by Steven Santos 30 Nov '10

30 Nov '10

OK, so I am to the point where I will be doing a production KOHA set up. This setup will initially serve 4 school libraries, and one special collection library, but we will likely add more as time goes on. In addition, we are setting up two electronic branches, one for our electronic library of public domain ebooks and other electronic resources and; a dedicated bibliography "branch", where we will put records of all known books/movies/etc in our subject area (making it easier for other branches to add these titles later) OK, here is my issue. I have installed the KOHA VM, and updated it to KOHA version 3.03.00.003. When I try to import a MARC record, I get the following error: http://192.168.2.19:8080/cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/addbiblio.pl?biblionumber= 0&z3950=1&breedingid=41 Software error: Can't call method "add_subfields" on an undefined value at /home/koha/kohaclone/cataloguing/addbiblio.pl line 144. For help, please send mail to the webmaster (webmaster@koha), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on how to fix it, or who else I might be able to ask for help? --- Steven Santos Director, Simply Circus, Inc. Mapping a string description to "Damaged Status"
by Peter Huerter 30 Nov '10

30 Nov '10

We are trying to figure out how to map a string description of the condition of our books into MARC21 so that it shows up for the user in the OPAC view of a book (i.e. under the Expanded MARC view). We deal with many rare and out-of-print books. We would like the description of the condition of a book to show up under "Damaged Status" which is currently represented in the SQL 'items' table as a boolean tinyint, 1==DAMAGED. We would like this to say something like for example "extensive water damage", or "fair". We are currently using 952$z to stash our own keyword strings (so that a z39.50 lookup/merge will not overwrite our own custom search strings), so using this field is out. I understand that the condition of a particular book is considered "item data", and should not be mapped to bib fields so I am currently mapping our condition descriptions to 852$q "Piece physical description". This seems right to me (or at least close), but I'm not sure how to force OPAC to display this field instead of 952$4 under Damaged Status. It is not clear to me how to change the "MARC bibliographic framework", and/or the "Koha to MARC mapping" to achieve the desired result. (A related question: Is there a way of adding "Damaged Status" to the OPAC "Normal" view?) 650 tag not showing with custom framework
by knight 30 Nov '10

30 Nov '10

I've created a custom framework and some tags do not show when a book is added. I started with the "fast add framework" and customized it removing some tags and adding others. One addition was the 082 tag for including the Dewey Decimal Classification. I also wanted to include the tag 650 for "topical terms". When i add a book with the customized framework 650 does not show up. The same book entered with the "default framework" the 650 tag information shows just fine. Any ideas why the 650 tag is not included with the customized framework? The 082 DDC shows fine and changing the framework shows the information is there. When I double check the framework settings 650 listed as well. -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/650-tag-not-showing-with-custom-framework… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
