Question about wiki instructions for installing Koha
by Buster 25 Mar '11

25 Mar '11

Hi, all. This is my 4th attempt to install Koha on Ubuntu and I am being extra careful that I do it right. I'm using the wiki page at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu and am now at step 7 of the installation. I need to know what to do about the following command: GRANT ALL ON kohadata.* TO 'root'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password'; Do I just copy and paste this as-is, or do I enter different values for "root", "localhost", "password", etc? Thanks in advance for your kind assistance. -- ================================================== "The man, who, by his own and his family's labour, can provide a sufficiency of food and raiment and a comfortable dwelling place, is not a poor man."--William Cobbett, *Cottage Economy*, 1826.

KUDOSCon2011 conference registration deadline is approaching. Please register<https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&authkey=CPSv4S0&formkey=dHFG…>by Friday, April 1, 2011. This conference will be a great experience for all who attend and it is a great deal too. We have updated the program for the KUDOSCon 2011 conference which is being held in Madison, WI on May 2 and May 3 2011. Featured are: - Koha 3.4 update by Koha Release Manager Chris Cormack of Catalyst IT Ltd. (piped in from New Zealand) - Presentations by representatives of all 3 major US Koha support vendors/developers - Lots of networking opportunities! - An unconference <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference> on May 3 - KUDOS meeting http://kudos.koha.org/kudoscon2011/conference-program/ This conference will be one of the least expensive conferences you will ever attend: - Thanks to our sponsors, there is no registration fee - We have great deals on hotels<http://kudos.koha-community.org/kudoscon2011/accommodation-in-madison/> - The hotels provide free shuttles from the airport - There are lots of low-cost eating establishments within walking distance of the hotels and conference center - It is not that expensive to fly into Madison (check it out); and you can always fly to Chicago and take the bus We now have two hotels within walking distance of the conference center (free shuttle also available from the Concourse Hotel). See the conference hotel page for booking information. http://kudos.koha-community.org/kudoscon2011/accommodation-in-madison/ And if all of this is not enough incentive, Madison is a fun place! Plus, you might get to see a few protesters. http://kudos.koha-community.org/kudoscon2011/what-to-do-in-madison/ -- Vicki Teal Lovely Helping our 52 member libraries provide the best possible service to the public. New items location Proc
by library 24 Mar '11

24 Mar '11

Kia ora koutou All my items being 'new' (because I have imported them into Koha recently) are marked as Proc in the shelf location field. Is there any way I can change them to 'cart' besides scanning them all in one at a time in order for them to go back to their normal locations. As I issue each item it appears to be deleting the location field. I have found how to restore the fields doing a sql search, but I don't really want to be doing this for the whole collection. Export/Import question from Alice 5.0
by Richard Eibrand 23 Mar '11

23 Mar '11

Hi there, We are looking to moving from Alice 5.0 to Koha. To that end, I have been playing around with getting our data exported from Alice and imported into Koha. The guts of the problem are this: - After exporting a MARC variant file from Alice, and importing it into Alice, the MAIN ENTRY--PERSONAL NAME field is populated with what appears to be todays date, with frey 50 after it, e.g. Personal name 20110321 frey50 - instead of Personal name Koha_author as it was entered in Alice. - I used MARCedit to have a look at my export files, and this is what I am getting: =LDR 00354nam 22001451a 4500 =020 \\$c0.00 =040 \\$aRoyal College of Physicians of Ireland =082 \\$bKOH =100 \\$aKoha_Author =245 \\$aKoha_Title$h[Text] =250 \\$aKoha_Edition =260 \\$bKoha_Publisher$cKoha_Year =300 \\$aKoha_Physical Description =500 \\$aKoha_Notes =600 \\$aKoha_Subject But this is what I am getting back once the import has completed and the index re-indexed, which is all correct except for the MAIN ENTRY LINE 000 -LEADER fixed length control field 00404nam a22001571a 4500 INTERNATIONAL STANDARD BOOK NUMBER Terms of availability 0.00 CATALOGING SOURCE Original cataloging agency Royal College of Physicians of Ireland DEWEY DECIMAL CLASSIFICATION NUMBER Item number KOH MAIN ENTRY--PERSONAL NAME Personal name 20110321 frey50 TITLE STATEMENT Title Koha_Title Medium [Text] EDITION STATEMENT Edition statement Koha_Edition PUBLICATION, DISTRIBUTION, ETC. (IMPRINT) Name of publisher, distributor, etc Koha_Publisher Date of publication, distribution, etc Koha_Year PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION Extent Koha_Physical Description GENERAL NOTE General note Koha_Notes I have tried with all the export formats available to me, namely, 02USMARC, 04USMARC with Copy information and 50 USMARC (Containing TLC Compulsory tags) from Alice. I have also imported them as both UNIMARC or MARC21 - but to no avail. Would anyone have any suggestions?
