Availability Limit
by Abdulsalam Yousef 27 Mar '11

Hi all As an extension of availability limit we noticed that the option of limit into currently available items is working only if we don't use icu but when using the icu this option is useless Plz, have you any idea about getting rid of this and what is the relationship between icu & Availability limit. thanks alot Abdou Yousuf.

Re: [Koha] library without a librarian

I agree with you, but I work for IT, I'm not a project coordinator. Now we have the same situation but with a paper, the person took the book and sign a paper and seems works. 2011/3/26 <hansbkk(a)gmail.com> > Don't have people reserve anything, just check them out via the OPAC > then and there instead. > > But what about all the books that people will take out without doing > anything in Koha? > > And all the books that get returned without getting checked back in? > And re-shelved in the wrong location? > > I'm finding it hard to imagine how this would work. . . > > On Sun, Mar 27, 2011 at 12:18 AM, schwitzd <schwitzd(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > Hi all > > > > We are planning to set up a library whitout librarian in our company. > > I'm testing koha and seems to work well. > > > > In our library there will not be a librarian, the person reserve the book > on > > the opac interface and will take it by self. > > My problem is if the book is not checked out it still available in the > opac > > interface, there is a way to by pass the check out? > > Is not possible if the book is reserved becomes automatically not > available > > on the opac interface? > > > > sorry for my english... is not very good :) >

Cataloguing serials
by Archives and Collections Society 26 Mar '11

26 Mar '11

We are looking for assistance with cataloguing serials (we have books mostly under control now) and there must be something we are missing. Semantically, a serial publication has a "single" (in the sense unique) *biblio* record (title, publisher, size, periodicity, etc) --- and multiple "items" (Vol I, No. 1 through Vol X..., No. y). However, this approach does not mingle well with Koha terminology or methodology as far as we can see. We have entered the *unique" biblio - see [1] below for how Koha has recorded it. We then entered two "items" which just added two 952$ records to the single biblio - see [2] below. The results are pretty useless from an OPAC user's standpoint. [S]he can find the single entry for the magazine, but refining the search for a year, or a boat name, whatever, still brings up exactly the same output - and adding the other 400+ issues of this periodical in the same way will (to put it mildly) muddy the waters. End result, 402 952$'s attached to a biblio, and a web page that will probably strangle Koha output (Marc view as well as normal view.) Question 1 ) Do we need to enter (presumably via MarcEdit) a new biblio for each item? Is this what all other Koha users do? (as an aside we have over 230,000 periodicals on spreadsheets. Are there any easier methods to replicate the biblio? or to use the "add item" in a more constructive manner? Question 2 ) The keywords|abstracts that we have for our serials is extensive and must be searchable by OPAC users. So far we have used 952$z for keywords (Koha input interface cuts this at 256 chars, while SQL makes 2^24 available, I'll need to modify tmpl|css) and used 520$a,3\, for abstracts - but these latter are firmly glued to biblio rather than item records. How do other Koha admins enter very lengthy but "mandatory for search" data? Question 3 ) How should date, volume and issue number be treated? We have ducked the question by concatenating to "Vol 6, No. 1, July 1971" but this plays havoc with other dates (copyright for the biblio is the year of Vol 1 No 1, in this case 1965) and is not likely to be user friendly for just looking for 2007 issues etc. Bottom line, does anyone have a schematic for what detailed Marc records are required at biblio and item level to make 230,000 well documented serials available in the OPAC? Many thanks, Paul - tired old sys-admin. library without a librarian
by schwitzd 26 Mar '11

Hi all We are planning to set up a library whitout librarian in our company. I'm testing koha and seems to work well. In our library there will not be a librarian, the person reserve the book on the opac interface and will take it by self. My problem is if the book is not checked out it still available in the opac interface, there is a way to by pass the check out? Is not possible if the book is reserved becomes automatically not available on the opac interface? sorry for my english... is not very good :) -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/library-without-a-librarian-tp4265686p426… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

updating software
by Shelley & Kurt Kemperman 26 Mar '11

26 Mar '11

We currently have version 3.0.0 and want to update to 3.2.6 this week. We are having the IT consultant that originally installed Koha do this. Any potential glitches or problems that I should be aware of? Will I have to reset anything in the new version? Hoping the transition goes smoothly. Thanks, Shelley

I inserting some books and all works fine... but the problem is when I try to Place Hold a book, appear this warning message: "Sorry, none of these items can be placed on hold." I read the documentation and I understood I have to configure the Circulation and fines rules. But I don't now why is not working... in the printscreen there is my configuration http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/8498/koha.png Thanks for your support Daniel -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Enable-Place-Hold-tp4263708p4263708.html Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Koha Consultant needed
by Tom Hanstra 25 Mar '11

25 Mar '11

Do you have Koha consulting experience and good knowledge of Koha internals? The University of Notre Dame would like to bring a Koha consultant on campus for a week or so to help us learn how to properly set up a Community Koha instance, migrate a branch library from PTFS Koha to Community Koha, and properly configure Koha for the branch's needs. Additionally, we'd use your time to get some baseline training on supporting Koha from both a systems administration and application administration viewpoint. Please send your credentials, references and service proposals to Pascal Calarco<pcalarco(a)nd.edu> by Friday, April 8, 2011.
