Field missing from MARC template

Our cataloger has encountered a problem in Koha (3.0200004) where a field appears in the MARC Bibliographic Framework but does not appear when adding new biblios or editing existing biblios. However, it does appear if you import a new record that happens to contain it. Here's what the cataloger is seeing: - You need to update a bib record to include a field we didn’t previously use on that record. (Your example is a 785 field to record a succeeding entry for a journal that changed title, right?) - Our template appears to contain this field (here: /koha/admin/marctagstructure.pl). The template also passes the MARC framework test (/koha/admin/checkmarc.pl). But when you view the record of a specific/actual item, the field doesn’t appear. - However, you can import a new bib record that has a 785 and that info will appear correctly and you could edit it (if for some reason you needed to). - You could solve the problem (of this specific journal changing its title) by importing a new bib record for the item that already has a 785 field, but then you’d have to reattach all the existing items to the new bib record which doesn’t make sense and would take a long time. Does anyone have insight into what could be going on here? It seems like something is out of sync. Thanks. Hi, We use Koha for our school media centers (libraries). We are approaching the end of the school year here and I need to set a ceiling date for all the materials to be returned. The problem I have is that the High School needs a much later ceiling date than everyone else in the district. Is there a way to set separate ceiling dates for different libraries? Elaine, We had downloaded our authority files from our current system and used ./bulkauthimport.pl -file authorityfile.mrc to load them and then rebuild zebra with the -a switch. I'm checking now about the 008 field. The ones I spot checked did have the a in the position 14 & 15, but, as I said, some did link, and those could have been the ones. I'll keep checking. Koha behind proxy server

Koha move to 3.4

All, How is the recommended way to move to the upcoming 3.4? We were thinking of having two instances. One with our current 3.02.02.003 and one with 3.4. Is that a good way to do it or should we upgrade to 3.2.7 and go from there? Can we move our data or is it better to do a fresh load? How different is the database in 3.4? Accents in Irish Gaelic

We are having difficulty with Irish Gaelic - the accents are getting mangled in z39.50 downloads. Or in some cases it won't work at all because of the accents. Are there particular settings I should check? The same titles at the Library of Congress and the National Library of Ireland (both set to MARC 8) look strange on the screen. There are extra letters in front of the accented letters. I contacted a colleague at LC who said these extra letters do not display on their end. UTF-8 produces little question marks where the accents should be, and brings up an error message saying: utf 8 "\xD6" does not map to Unicode Which makes me wonder if some of this is due to a browser setting? (Google Chrome - UK English). Hi I had a similar problem with Irish characters not displaying correctly. It was down to browser default character encoding. I overcome this by using the Perl 'Encode' module # use Encode; Where print $x was displaying Irish characters incorrectly, using print encode('utf-8',$x); renders Irish characters correctly.
