drop box mode

Hi all Using drop-box mode for returns doesn't rewrite/reduce fines on an overdue item...is that right? I might be expecting it to do too much :-)... need help with OPAC/cataloging and adding items

After doing a search and finding the info from z39.50 i selected import then save and a new page shows with Items for xxxbook name etc xxx. (Record #23) Add Item 0 - Withdrawn status etc I input through drop down or it automatically populates the field when selected (d - Date acquired, p - Barcode, y - Koha item type) I then select Add Item button - thats when the following error shows Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: found MARCXML element datafield, but the <record> wrapper is missing at /usr/lib/perl5/XML/Parser/Expat.pm line 474 Apache Server version: Apache/2.2.16 (Ubuntu) Server built: Nov 18 2010 21:17:29 Koha 3.00.00.107 Koha DB 3.0000107 MySQL mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.49, for debian-linux-gnu (i686) using readline 6.1 OS Linux LibrarySrv 2.6.35-28-generic-pae #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 18 20:43:15 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux Perl 5.010001 This is very new to me and would love any input. FYI this is a new install so its not like it was working and then stopped. -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/need-help-with-OPAC-cataloging-and-adding… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: [Koha] Sirsi in NZ!
by Lee Phillips 04 May '11

Hi Jim, Had to go the electronic archives since this was 2008! But you should consider the following- we did a survey of the staff asking what they liked and didn't like about our Spectrum/Winnebago ILS. We formed a committee of supervisory staff and created a list of what we wanted BEFORE looking at any vendor. We prioritized the list and then asked vendors for a features list and a library who was using their ILS. So no real RFP...more an RFI. After we received the info we created an evaluation sheet from our wish list and narrowed down the field. I then took the final two or three and did market research and development research to see if we were gonna get stuck again with an expensive legacy system that was costly to migrate out of- The ILSs we evaluated were Destiny from Follet- Koha-Evergreen- Library World- Symphony/Sirsi. We probably would have included OCLC express but that was before their time! LOL That is some thing to consider, CHANGE! and who can keep up with development especially as we become more mobile with apps. AS A SIDE NOTE -I think cost for us was huge, we needed so much in facility updates I was really looking for the biggest bang for our buck. We got it with Koha. Even with paid support we have spent less in 3 years than we did in one with Winnebago support and migration. Feel free to share any of this info. Koha Database Maintenance
by ISM KIS 04 May '11

04 May '11

Test upgrade to 3.4 showed that our database must have some corrupt records. Upgrading our current database fails on misc/maintenance/remove_items_from_biblioitems.pl --run and on misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r However if I restore and upgrade an earlier version the upgrade is ok. Is there a way to verify and clean-up a koha database? Any script to check the consistency? Rudy Wuthrich Kodaikanal International School
