Manual Help - Library Groups
by Nicole Engard 08 Aug '11

08 Aug '11

Hello all, One of our manual translators emailed me to ask me for some help today and I unfortunately can't help. > I am trying to translate in french the manual Koha. And I would like more > information on the role of the category 'propierties' under the code group > of sites. > What is it? A there a link with the traffic rules or system preferences?.. My answer was basically that when I asked on list ages ago that was the answer I got, I'd love more information for both the English and the French (and all other languages as they come) manuals. Any and all info is helpful! Thanks Nicole C. Engard Documentation Manager

Self Checkout multiple locations
by WTC 07 Aug '11

07 Aug '11

Hello We wanted to use the Self Checkout for our students. We have nine locations and the staff account for the Self Checkout is registered to one of the locations. This means that when a student at a different location uses the Self Checkout it is as if they borrowed the book from a different library. This causes a problem when returning the item as it thinks it needs to be returned at the home library - which isn't the home of the staff account. Is there any way around this? Is there a setting for circulation that I have set incorrectly or a circulation rule I need to amend? Do any of you use the Self Checkout and Check in with multiple locations? Any help much appreciated. -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Self-Checkout-multiple-locations-tp467538… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Brainstorm Help - Improve Reporting
by Nicole Engard 07 Aug '11

07 Aug '11

Hello all, I'm the 'report guru' at work and while I love writing reports I'm trying to think of ways to save me some work. One thing that I often do is open up two tabs in my browser so that I have the authorized values open in one and the report in another. I'm looking for some brainstorming help on a way to make the pertinent values accessible right from the reporting module (shelving locations, patron categories, item types, collection codes, etc etc). I'm sure there is some fancy way for us to embed links to important values or lists of the important values on the create from SQL page ... or maybe just one page with the values you'll need to query often. Another option is to update the runtime parameters function to allow for more pull down menus (right now it only has a pull down for branches - that I know of). Sorry for my jumbled thoughts, but that's what brainstorming is about :) Nicole

Help with MarcEdit Delimited Text Translator
by Christine Othitis 06 Aug '11

06 Aug '11

Hi group, I am volunteering with a non-profit organization who has decided to use Koha to catalogue their collection. It exists as an Excel spreadsheet. Nicole, on this list, pointed me to these instructions for translating the Excel file: http://manual.koha-community.org/3.4/en/marceditexcel.html I thought I made the MARC file correctly, but when I tried to import it into Koha, I received an error that said something to the effect of 0 records were imported, records don't exist. I am looking at the tutorial again and I don't think I mapped the fields correctly as demonstrated in the tutorial. The spreadsheet contains these fields: Flag Title/Description Author(s)/Editor/Curator Artists Involved Pub. Year Gallery Category Location Notes Borrowed Do I need to change the column headings to something else? And if so, what would the map to text be? I went to the LOC website, but I can't understand it :\ Thanks, Christine

Really stupid question - deleting patrons
by Peel Lisa 05 Aug '11

05 Aug '11

Hello I think I already know the answer to this but just wanted someone far more intelligent and knowledgeable than me to confirm. . . !! If I delete a patron, their usage stats are still kept in the tables aren't they? I am not wiping this information out by deleting their account? The only excuse I have for such stupidity is that it is Friday afternoon. . . . :) Regards Lisa [Description: Description: Description: CR_logo_POS_COULEUR b] LISA PEEL, PGDip, MA. Potential ejournal issues?
by Ed Veal 05 Aug '11

05 Aug '11

I am considering a position as Unit Supervisor for medical school library that has just gone live with Koha on Aug. 1st. In my communications with them they are apparently having “issues” with ejournals. I have read Chapter 6 of the Koha 3.4 manual and have a good handle on how things work. What I am looking for is personal experience from others. What are some of the issues you might have faced when dealing with ejournal subscriptions and linking to them? Thanks for any insight you, as the user community might have to offer. -- *Ed Veal* Programmer/Analyst I Texas Tech University Library Systems Admin/API Consultant Lubbock Public Library Disclaimer: The views expressed by the author do not necessarily represent those of TTU Libraries or the Lubbock Public Library.

Can't create new Item Types
by Paul Nielsen 04 Aug '11

04 Aug '11

Howdy, I have browsed through bugzilla and can't find a reported bug causing this, so am wondering if I am missing something silly. I simply can't create a new item type, after going through the process and saving changes nothing happens. It worked fine way back when were setting up. fines report and info not appearing as expected
by Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz 04 Aug '11

04 Aug '11

Can't trace the next step in this troubleshooting. I'm running Koha 3.04.02 on Ubuntu. 1. finesMode in Circulation preferences marked "Calculate and charge" (database table systempreferences finesMode reads "production". There is kind of a disconnect between systempreferences interface and the within script documentation which doesn't refer to the stated choices, only the final value as "production" or "test".) 2. Calendar of days when library is open and closed set up 3. Circulation and Fines rules are set up 4. Environment variables and cron job set and running for fines.pl (tested manually also with -v option) , run as kohaadmin (koha system user) 5. /tmp/koha_2012-*.log reads with correct fines calculated based on rules with appropriate patron information, so fines.pl is working somewhat. 6. Circulation -> Overdues with fines gives no information for all locations 7. Staff client with patron information shows overdues but no fines charged 8. OPAC client shows overdues but no fines information I assume the info is stored in the accountlines table, but there is no data in this table. Can't find any error message or log that indicates any problems such as no permissions to write to a specific database table. Any suggestions as to the next step in troubleshooting? Thanks, Marion
