Customising the Koha OPAC
by Joel Harbottle 27 Aug '11

27 Aug '11

Hi All, I would like to make some changes to my Koha OPAC with how it display¹s Bibliographic Details on the OPAC Detail¹s page, in three particular areas of the screen. 1. Title Display At present, the item¹s Title displays as how it normally displays in the Koha OPAC. But, I would like to add onto this current display format. For example, two titles I currently have in the catalogue: The monster book of manga : girls / edited by Ikari Studio. MARC Format: 245 04 $aThe monster book of manga : $bgirls / $cedited by Ikari Studio. Koha OPAC Display: The monster book of manga : girls / I would like this to display on the OPAC Detail¹s page as: The monster book of manga : girls / edited by Ikari Studio. Printer. Deskjet D2560 [equipment] / Hewlett-Packard. MARC Format: 245 10 $aPrinter. $nDeskjet D2560 $h[equipment] / $cHewlett-Packard. Koha OPAC Display: Printer. I would like this to display on the OPAC Detail¹s page as: Printer. Deskjet D2560 [equipment] / Hewlett-Packard. 2. Publication Details At present, the Item¹s Publication details show on the OPAC Detail¹s page as: Published by : Collins Design, (New York, N.Y. :) I would like this to display on the OPAC Details page as: - Published by : New York, N.Y. : Collins Design, 2008. 3. Physical Details At present, the Koha OPAC will only display the data that is entered in tags 300 $a, $b, $c on the OPAC Detail¹s page, but I would like to extend this to display the fields 300 $a, $b, $c, $e. At present details would be listed as per normal, e.g. 64 p. : ill. (some col.) ; 28 cm., but if there is any data in 300$e (Accompanying material) it won¹t display in the OPAC display. I would the 300$e (Accompanying field) to display in the OPAC Detail¹s display if there is data in the field, e.g.: 64 p. : ill. (some col.) ; 28 cm. + 2 posters. I have looked through the Koha manuals to see there is any mention of how to make these changes to the OPAC Details page, but have been unsuccessful on finding anything. Does anyone in the Koha community have knowledge on how to make these changes they would be willing to share with me please?! Kindest Regards, Joel

Koha and Memcache
by Doug Kingston 26 Aug '11

26 Aug '11

Running Koha 3.4.3, it appears that Koha is only using Memcache for storing session information and certain very static information: <28 get KOHAgetTranslatedLanguages-list-opac prog <28 get KOHAgetTranslatedLanguages-scalar-opac prog en <28 get KOHAgetAllLanguages-scalar- There would seem to be much more information that could be safely cached in a local memcache to speed things up, particularly if the Mysql database is not running on the local machine. Has anyone looked into this? -Doug-

2011/8/27 Randall Rowe <r.rowe(a)lincolnlibraries.org>: > I also noticed that some of them are listed in the "thank you" list as > contributors to the > current community version. > Speaking of which, yes Official Koha does thank all its contributors, no matter how big or small their contributions are. We have an about page in Koha that lists them, the translators and many more. Patches are always accepted to keep that page up to date. It is incredibly important that the impact people and organisations have had and continue to have on the project is recognised. The about page is one way to do that, as is the history.txt file. It is with great pleasure that I can announce that yesterday (NZ time) I had the honour of pushing a patch from the 150th person to contribute to the Koha project codebase. You could be the 151st by patching the about.tt page to match :) Chris

Not really true. I have seen numerous responses to questions by PTFS employees on this list that were technical in nature and had nothing to do with PTFS/Liblime Koha. I also noticed that some of them are listed in the "thank you" list as contributors to the current community version. Past Koha Events New Zealand Koha Users Group Meeting by Chris Cormack Today I had the great fortune of attending the first New Zealand Koha users group meeting, in the birthplace of Koha, Horowhenua. There were 51 attendees and even road closures and snow didn’t stop people attending. There was a really good mix of Library types, I think 18 from Publics, 18 from specials, and the rest schools, corporate and academic. It was run as an unconference so the first task of the day was to decide what would be talked about the rest of the day. The programme that we came up with was: The community – How to get involved and make the most Installation/migration/training and why should we use Koha Features – what’s there, and what would we like added Serials, acquisitions, cataloguing Managing digital resources Consortia And one other I have forgotten The discussions went really well, with lots of participation. It definitely won’t be the last meeting, I think we are leaning towards 2 a year but that’s something that will be decided on the mailing lists. While we were busy plotting plans to take over the world, (or at least New Zealand) Koha 3.4.3 was released. Global Bug Squashing Day #3 by Magnus Enger Global bug squashing days are dedicated to getting bugs and patches moving toward resolution. The third GBSD coincided with holidays and other obligations for some people, but we still managed to move a fair number of bugs along. These numbers below show how many bugs were moved to a new status during the day: Needs Signoff: 13 Signed Off: 12 Passed QA: 6 Pushed: 11 Resolved: 30 For more info, see http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2011-08-05_Global_bug_squashing_day. August General IRC Meeting The August general IRC meeting was held on 2 August 2011. Highlights from the meeting include: Koha 3.2 has reached its end of life. The bare minimum requirement for a vendor to be listed on the community website is a visible link to the community website on the main Koha page of the vendor’s website. Daniel Grobani is the new newsletter editor. Those interested in a role in 3.8 should express interest to the mailing list by 22 September for an October election. Problems with Hold in Koha 3.4
by Moyra McAllister 25 Aug '11

25 Aug '11

I am a very new user of Koha - and we are about to go live - we are a single library, no branches. I had been using 3.2.successfully in a trial situation and decided to upgrade to 3.4.2 before going live. However, when we try to place holds we get the following 'None of these items can normally be put on hold for this patron Place hold?' Clicking OK will place the hold This occurs for all item types and all borrowers. Using the OPAC to place holds does not work. Has anyone else had this problem? Hoping for an answer Moyra Moyra McAllister Melbourne Athenaeum Library Mob: 0409463663 email: moyrab(a)internode.on.net
