Text Messaging of Notices
by Nora Blake 01 Sep '11

01 Sep '11

Hello all, MassCat is looking at doing some development to Koha to allow for text messaging of notices without the need for a third party vendor to manage the messaging. ByWater is currently working up specifications for this project. It looks like the cost will be in the $5,000-$6,000 range. Anyone interested in working with us on this and sharing the cost? If you are, please let me know. Nora ________________________ Nora Blake MassCat Manager Massachusetts Library System P.O. I was doing some research to try and see if there is any sort of computer reservation/ computer management system module in the pipeline for koha. If there is not, is a module of this type even feasible to create for koha? Thanks Melissa Parker SEKLS

3.4.4 - Install with zebra moved
by Tom Hanstra 01 Sep '11

01 Sep '11

How does one properly install Koha with Zebra not in the default (/var) location? During the install process, I'm asked for and can relocate the primary Koha software directory. But when asked if I want to use Zebra, I'm not given the same choices. And when Koha sets up locations for Zebra in koha-config.xml, all are default locations. How do I get around this? 2011-09-02 Global bug squashing day #4 - It's on! Join the fun!
by Magnus Enger 01 Sep '11

01 Sep '11

Dear Community! Just a gentle reminder that GBSD#4 started about half an hour ago, in Kiribati. If Friday September 2nd is inconvenient for you in your timezone you might want to consider diving in now, to get a head start! ;-) For those watching at home, a lot of the changes on Bugzilla will be tweeted here: http://twitter.com/#!/KohaGBSD Best regards, Magnus Enger ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Magnus Enger <magnus(a)enger.priv.no> Date: 30 August 2011 08:35 Subject: 2011-09-02 Global bug squashing day #4 To: Koha list <koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz>, koha-devel(a)lists.koha-community.org Dear Community! Just a gentle reminder that GBSD#4 is approaching fast: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2011-09-02_Global_bug_squashing_day Please bear in mind that the Release Manager has declared the following dates: * Feature freeze – 22 September 23:59 UTC – From this point on, no new features will be considered for inclusion into 3.6.0 * String freeze – 8 October 23:59 UTC – no bugs that change templates accepted after this point. This allows the translators to translate without things changing on them http://koha-community.org/key-dates-3-6-0/ That means we have about 3 weeks for getting any new features in! And there are (at the moment) 83 (!) bugs/patches waiting to be signed off: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&bug_sta… See one in there that you would like to make sure makes it into Koha 3.6? YOU can help it along by signing off on it! http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Sign_off_on_patches Of course, we should take every opportunity to sign off patches in the coming weeks, but why not make a concerted effort on Friday September 2nd 2011 (in your timezone) and see how far we can get, as a team? Could we cut the queue in half? Happy hunting! Magnus Enger PS And you don't have to be a developer to help either!

Re: [Koha] Cataloguing Electronic resources
by Dianna Roberts 01 Sep '11

01 Sep '11

Hi Ann, We've not catalogued any websites but for documents we are using a collection code ED (electronic documents). Our approach is currently a bit inconsistent when it comes to items as sometimes we've attached them and sometimes we haven't, although we do also an item-type ED (E-version). When we have attached an item we've made up the barcode which can be any combination of letters and/or numbers, e.g. QLDmain0709. I'll be interested in seeing any other responses to this question, and would also like to know what people do about link checking. I must admit I hadn't thought stocktaking as it's not something we've ever been required to do. We are also currently on 3.2. I have trolled the net looking for discussions but have not found anything pertinent yet. The nub of the problem is that if they don't have attached items you cannot enter item types and ccodes, however I don't want to assign barcodes. Are there hidden snags if you have items without barcodes? What happens at stocktake when you have no actual item to stocktake? Is there a better way to do this? I have used item types to assign borrower privileges and ccodes as search points and I am just about to move from 3.2 to 3.4. Naku noa Ann Murphy Katikati College.

Searching patron names
by Moyra McAllister 01 Sep '11

01 Sep '11

Hi and thanks for great help thus far. We have discovered that searching for patrons with names such as 'VON TRAPP' or 'DEL GRECO' doesn't seem to work. We can search on 'VON' or 'DEL' and that will bring up a list containing those names but we can't search for the whole surname, and a search for the TRAPP or GRECO finds nothing. Is there a setting that I've missed? Using Koha v.3.4.4 Thanks again Moyra Melbourne Athenaeum Library Mob: 0409463663 email: moyrab(a)internode.on.net
