SIP2 and OverDrive
by Paul Nielsen 30 Aug '11

30 Aug '11

Hi all, We have just had SIP2 set up for OverDrive member authentication. We now have a slight problem in that it is checking by patron type rather than by home library for reporting, despite thinking we had set it up to check by home library. I was wondering if anyone out there could shed some light on this for us? Error appearing upon scanning/entering Barcodes - PLEASE HELP!!!
by Joel Harbottle 30 Aug '11

30 Aug '11

Hi All, I¹m having a problem with Koha and the scanning/entering of Item and Patron Barcodes. Whenever you scan/enter a barcode or patron barcode in any module of Koha (Acquisitions, Cataloguing, Circulation [Checkin/Out], Serials, etc.) the following error will appear and Koha won¹t perform the action you require it to do, e.g. Checkout or Checkin an item, or attach an item to a Bibliographic record. Software error: Can't call method "subfield" on an undefined value at /home/koha/kohaclone/C4/Biblio.pm line 2880. For help, please send mail to the webmaster (webmaster@koha), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. Has someone out in the Koha Community had this problem and know of a solution to fix it! At present, our system is on Koha 3.4. Thankyou in advance for your assistance. Kindest Regards, Joel

2011-09-02 Global bug squashing day #4
by Magnus Enger 30 Aug '11

30 Aug '11

Dear Community! Just a gentle reminder that GBSD#4 is approaching fast: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2011-09-02_Global_bug_squashing_day Please bear in mind that the Release Manager has declared the following dates: * Feature freeze – 22 September 23:59 UTC – From this point on, no new features will be considered for inclusion into 3.6.0 * String freeze – 8 October 23:59 UTC – no bugs that change templates accepted after this point. This allows the translators to translate without things changing on them http://koha-community.org/key-dates-3-6-0/ That means we have about 3 weeks for getting any new features in! And there are (at the moment) 83 (!) bugs/patches waiting to be signed off: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&bug_sta… See one in there that you would like to make sure makes it into Koha 3.6? YOU can help it along by signing off on it! http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Sign_off_on_patches Of course, we should take every opportunity to sign off patches in the coming weeks, but why not make a concerted effort on Friday September 2nd 2011 (in your timezone) and see how far we can get, as a team? Could we cut the queue in half? Happy hunting! Magnus Enger PS And you don't have to be a developer to help either!

Trying to get 245 n & p to show on results list
by Hillyard, Cecil 29 Aug '11

29 Aug '11

Hi, We catalog our graphic novels to be on separate records. We use 245 n & p subfields to denote this in our current system. The n's an p's are not showing up in Koha. I have edited the frameworks hidden constraint to 0. Is editing the frameworks the correct place to do this or is there some other place that needs to be changed? The n's and p's do show when actually going in to the record to catalog but not in the regular results list on either the staff or opac. Top of Form 1. Zombie-loan. I was just reading the article on LJ called Open Source Reality Check ( http://www.libraryjournal.com/lj/home/891350-264/open_source_reality_check.…) which opens with "In 2009, East Brunswick <http://www.ebpl.org/> Public Library<http://www.ebpl.org/> (EBPL), NJ, switched from a proprietary integrated library system (ILS), SirsiDynix’s Horizon, to an open source Koha ILS. In 2010, it switched back." As I read this, I recalled someone saying that the only library to have gone to Koha and then switched back was a Liblime customer. Can anyone verify that it East Brunswick was indeed a Liblime customer and if so, when did that relationship begin and end? I'd like to set the record straight by commenting on the article but I want MY facts straight first! Re: [Koha] Difference in Staff and Student (Mahesh T Pai)
by R Sunil Kumar 29 Aug '11

Dear Mahesh Staff and Student are totally two different category, Staff is for the library professional staff who has different rights like issue, return, cataloguing of books, journals, CD, etc. Whereas Student will be like any other library users. Student can see their account to see how many books issues, fine status, any special notice, checkout history (if configured), contact details, etc. It always recommended to provide username and password to library users (students, faculty, outside members). This will library users to see all records related to them, instead of coming to the circulation staff and disturbing the circulation staff. Circulation staff can use this time for some productive work like study of shelves, understanding the collection, usage patterns, etc. You can provide username and password for student to access their account. Generally username is the Library ID and password is students' first name. Revert for any clarifications or help. Just set up a borrower with a user name and password and they can login to check their status. They don't need to login to search, unless you change OpacPublic preference.
