Koha Installation on Ubuntu 11
by deepak.bhatia 19 Aug '11

19 Aug '11

Hi, 1. When I install the Ubuntu 11, then I create a user by my name “deepak” 2. Then I login as deepak and set the password for root using “sudo passwd root” 3. Then create a koha user while logged in as deepak, using the command “adduser koha” 4. Then I do “sudo users-admin” and give administer rights to koha 5. Then I logout and login using koha 6. Then I follow the steps after that as suggested by you in your PDF. Then when I run $sudo cpan HTTP::OAI, this fails (But earlier sudo commands had worked, like sudo apt-get update, sudo dselect) Please help me in resolving this issue. Re: [Koha] Koha Digest, Vol 70, Issue 45

Dear Prajeesh, For your query for "weeded out" you have to take following steps. But before that "Weeded out" is same as "Withdrawn" as we remove the weeded out books from the library. Step 1: Koha Administration Step 2: Authorized Values define "'WITHDRAWN" if not available and assign "1" for withdrawn "0" for not withdrawn (in Version Koha 3.00.00 Authorized value is under Catalogue and in version Koha 3.04 it is under Basic Parameters Step 3: select the title by entering the accession or title name in the search window of koha Step 4: once at the catalogue window select "Edit Item" Step 5: look for withdrawn status option - select "1" for withdraw items. Step 6: save the record For confirming whether the books is withdrawn or not please do the search again and check for the status of the books. You can also check in the circulation section by trying to issue the book it will give an alert message saying that the book cannot be issues as withdrawn from the library. For any further help please call me at below number. News from the New Newsletter Editor
by daniel g 18 Aug '11

18 Aug '11

Hello, As you may know, Nicole Engard has resigned the position of Koha newsletter editor after a year and a half of splendid work. I’m pleased the community has selected me to succeed her, and I look forward to serving the community by producing the monthly account of what’s new in the world of Koha. But I need your help to do it! Please send me news of anything you think the community might like to know about. It can be as short as a sentence or as long as a paper. I'm planning to add a gossip column (you call it a society column if you prefer), which will be short blurbs about what folks in the community are doing, like "Paul Poulain of BibLibre is assisting 3.6 Quality Assurance Manager Ian Walls in reducing the backlog of patches waiting for QA testing" and "Melia Meggs joined ByWater Solutions as their Operations Manager." I'll be harvesting material for this column from the lists and blogs, but I encourage you to send me a sentence or two about what you're currently working on. I’ll also be adding a section on new Koha implementations in the past month, so if you know of any go-lives that don’t get posted to the list, please be sure to alert me. I've already gathered a fair amount of material for the August newsletter, including the August General IRC meeting, Global Bug Squashing Day, the status of the releases, and the latest on KohaCon11 and KohaCon12. Please send directly to me (not to the list) anything else you think might be newsworthy by next Thursday, August 25. Thanks, Daniel Grobani

git bz setup question
by Nicole Engard 18 Aug '11

18 Aug '11

I have followed the instructions on the wiki, but every time I restart my virtual machine I need to repeat the path line before git bz will work. Is there a way to have tat path figured out automatically? nengard@debian:~/kohaclone$ git bz attach -e 6716 HEAD git: 'bz' is not a git command. See 'git --help'. Did you mean one of these? am gc mv rm nengard@debian:~/kohaclone$ PATH=$PATH:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin nengard@debian:~/kohaclone$ git bz attach -e 6716 HEAD Thanks in advance Nicole

Patron import bug or expectations too high?
by Chris Hobbs 17 Aug '11

17 Aug '11

We've about 13,000 students that we want to refresh regularly from our student information system. We've done so using import_borrowers.pl, but since upgrading from 3.0 to a released 3.2 up through a very recent git build (3.05.00.008) we've been unable to update our patrons using this tool. We always get Apache's Gateway Timeout error after 10 minutes. If we import only new patrons (the "Ignore this one, keep the existing one" is selected), then the import succeeds even though the import file is still 13,000 records long. It's only when we choose the "Overwrite the existing one with this" option that it stalls out. If I break it up into smaller chunks (~1000 student patrons) it works. So am I asking too much? Should I just figure out how to split my import file up into smaller batches? Are there adjustments to Apache's config I could safely make to try to increase the timeout? I tried making some changes to Apache to resolve this in the past that seemed to make it very unstable, so I reverted those. It's been months, and I do not recall what I changed - bad sysadmin!. Or is there something wrong with import_borrowers.pl that could be causing it to take too long? Thanks for your suggestions! -- Chris Hobbs Director, Technology New Haven Unified School District
