942 c searching and generating reports
by Elaine Bradtke 15 Dec '11

15 Dec '11

The problem: I need to batch edit a group of biblios, but first I have to find them and extract a list of their biblio numbers. All the biblios in question have a common trait: their 942$c is Components They also do not have item records But I can't seem to create a report that will do this (my grasp of the whole report function is rather feeble). Any advice? Now for the inevitable weirdness: I know there are over 70 biblios with Components in the 942$c field. I created a report that lists all the biblionumbers and itemtypes. The only Components that report produced were ones that had been manually entered. Not the 70+ that came in via a bulk import. If I search for the items individually by title, etc. they are there and appear to be normal records. If I try to limit an advance search to Components, it draws a blank. Which makes me think there's something fishy going on somewhere. But where to look? Thanks for any help! Elaine

Equinox offering two scholarships for the 2012 Code4Lib conference
by Galen Charlton 14 Dec '11

14 Dec '11

[Please excuse the cross-posting. Potential applicants should be aware of a new piece of information since the initial announcement: as part of our overall sponsorship of the conference, Equinox had one attendance slot that was reserved for an Equinox employee. We are now using that slot in order to make the scholarship of benefit to somebody who would otherwise not be able to attend the conference. If you meet the eligibility criteria and either didn't register for the conference yet or are on the waiting list, we encourage you to apply for the scholarship.] Equinox Software is offering 2 scholarships to the code4lib conference in February. The scholarships will reimburse travel and accommodation expenses up to $750.00 USD for a full-time employee from public libraries using either Evergreen or Koha to attend the Code4Lib Conference in Seattle, Washington, USA, from February 6-9, 2012. The awardees will also receive (depending on their circumstances) free registration to Code4Lib or reimbursement of an already-paid registration. ELIGIBILITY The applicants must be presently working in a public library that is currently using or is actively committed to moving to either Evergreen or Koha as their ILS. The applicants must indicate any amount and source of additional funding which, combined with the Scholarship, will permit them to cover their expenses to attend the Conference. (This will not reduce the amount of the award.) Preference will be given to underfunded libraries or libraries in budget crisis. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION December 31, 2011 The email application should include a current resume, including all contact information, education, and experience, along with an essay as described below. The applicants will write up to 750 words of narrative in English to address the following: • Description of the library’s mission and commitment to open source solutions • How attendance may benefit the applicant • How the applicant intends to share the benefit of the experience with colleagues • Description of funding constraints, budgetary limitations, or travel/hiring freezes pertinent to the applicant’s situation APPLICATION ADDRESS: Please send resumes and essays to Grace Dunbar before December 31, 2011 by email attachment to c4lgrant(a)esilibrary.com NOTIFICATION: The successful applicants will be notified by January 5, 2012. Feel free to re-post this announcement and/or our press release (http://esilibrary.com/esi/newsitem.php?id=2182) Regards, Galen -- Galen Charlton Director of Support and Implementation Equinox Software, Inc. / The Open Source Experts email: gmc(a)esilibrary.com direct: +1 770-709-5581 cell: +1 404-984-4366 skype: gmcharlt web: http://www.esilibrary.com/ Supporting Koha and Evergreen: http://koha-community.org & http://evergreen-ils.org

Re: [Koha] how can i view all the contents of the libary, Please make it more clear
by Stefano Bargioni 14 Dec '11

Maybe the select suggested in the wiki SELECT items.price,items.replacementprice,biblio.title,biblio.author,items.itemcallnumber FROM items LEFT JOIN biblioitems ON (items.biblioitemnumber=biblioitems.biblioitemnumber) LEFT JOIN biblio ON (biblioitems.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) WHERE items.homebranch=<<Home branch|branches>> ORDER BY items.itemcallnumber ASC could be enhanced using the cn_sort field, that cointains the sort form of itemcallnumber, changing the ORDER BY clause into ORDER BY items.cn_sort ASC Stefano > There is a report for a complete shelf list on the wiki - > http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/SQL_Reports_Library#Complete_Shelf_list > > You should be able to use that as a starting place to get what you're > looking for. > > Liz Rea

Library school students at these three Universities – taking classes in library automation and technology systems -- will be studying the principles for design, selection, implementation and management of automated systems of all types in libraries. Each course will cover the use of ILSs for technical service processing, reference and user services, and management. Both courses will include presentations and demos from vendors and systems librarians and possible site visits to libraries using ILS systems in their day-to-day operations." Please shutdown the site of Koha Windows version
by Vimal Kumar 12 Dec '11

12 Dec '11

Dear Friends, Many people are downloading Koha Windows version from www.koha.rwjr.comsite and installed in their library and send many query regarding about it. They are newbies to Koha and don't know windows version is obsoleted one. My humble request to Koha Windows version developer is that either shut down the site or give proper message to visitors that development of Windows version is stopped. Installation of Koha in Windows is troublesome and can break anytime. Many librarians entered their whole data in Koha Windows version and after that they know that the version is not updated. They feel difficult to convert their data to latest version of Koha. Windows is not a good platform for Koha production system. Regards, -- Vimal Kumar V.
