Hi folks, I imported my data ifrom .mrc files in ubuntu 11.10 and centos 6.2. The result is that all the database is working fine on ubuntu but in centos it creates a lot of problem like very few records are imported in data and advance searching is not working. best regards Vinod kumar

koha 3.6.x is not installing on debian

I am using debian 6.0.5 i want to install koha 3.6.x in it after adding the line deb http://apt.cpbibliography.com/koha 3.6.x in the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/koha.list and add key wget -O- http://apt.cpbibliography.com/koha/gpg.asc | apt-key add - it works fine and key is added but when i run the command apt-get it gives error E: Malformed line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/koha.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read. any suggestion?

Hi all, Lately, I've been watching game of thrones and I realised that Koha's smart rules were like Theon Greyjoy. It's something you think you know but in the end, does something that wasn't expected at all. :^) Actually, it's not that dramatic but I think the hackfest is a good oportunity to build a focus group on the circulation rules. They are, if not the first, one of the feature that need to work really well. But I noticed recently, weird transfer or hold situations... At the same time, I discovered this new floating item feature. I don't know if it's related but I'm sure that even 2 or 3 people is not enough to QA any features that have impacts on circulation... So, my idea is to set up a focus group to : * work on koha circulation weaknesses * help people testing circulation feature with different settings At least, I think we should : * list the different circulation settings we know (indenpendant branchs or not, etc...) : * point out koha weaknesses for each of them * and make a list of tests to run each time there is a new circulation feature to be tested This way, it's going to be easier for everyone to get involved in testing these features and in the end, to be sure the circulations rules... rules! ;^) MJ, do you think it's possible to propose this during the hackfest? Issues with Serials

Dear community, We are currently testing 3.06.04 to automate our library. Everything is still all right with one exception. Our catalog contains a large number of serial publications. The problem is that we are not sure how its MARC record should look like. With book everything is clear; you have a bibliographic record and holdings/items. Yet, journals and newspapers appear to be somehow tricky. We have decided to use koha's "Serials" module for this purpose. So, we create a bibliographic record, assign the pattern of publications and the system starts to generate items for each Issue. But the problem is that each issue has several items for itself, and since we use Items as Issues, there is no way to assign additional Items to Issues. This may sound a little bit confusing, but those who have used the tool will understand. Is there any solution to this problem? Or, do you have any experience of creating Serial/Newspaper records? Can you share some useful examples? Regards, Haik.

problems with Zebra on Ubuntu 12.04

I have Koha 3.8.1 installed and mostly working on Ubuntu 12.04, and have created/imported a bunch of records to work with. The problem I'm having is that all searches in the catalog come up with no results. I can see the records I imported in the reservoir, so I know they're there, but Search the Catalog finds nothing. There are several related FAQs at http://koha-community.org/documentation/faq/, but I've tried all of the suggestions without any luck. Here's the command I'm currently using to rebuild the index: sudo -u koha -H env KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml PERL5LIB=/usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r -v The first time I run that, I get a bunch of "[No such file or directory]" error messages about /var/lock/koha/zebradb/biblios -- I've checked, and there really is no /var/lock/koha directory. If I create those directories (and confirm that the koha user is the owner), I stop seeing error messages. But I still can't search for records. And I have to keep recreating this /var/lock/koha directory and subdirectories -- I think they're being deleted when I restart the computer. I haven't found anywhere that describes what the expected output of rebuild_zebra.pl is. I've been assuming that no news is good news, but maybe it's not. For example, I see it count out dots for all of my records under "exporting biblio", but then it says REINDEXING zebra ================== ================== CLEANING ================== Without another list of dots (although it pauses between the two lines of ===s for several seconds as if it's doing something). Is that what it's supposed to do? I installed Koha following the instructions at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu. They were written for Koha 3.06 and Ubuntu 11.10, but everything seemed to work as written with only one exception. In Step 1 under Install Koha, the second command "make" -- gave me /usr/bin/perl "-Iblib/arch" "-Iblib/lib" fix-perl-path.PL blib Permission denied at fix-perl-path.PL line 88. make: *** [blib] Error 13 I changed it to "sudo make", and it worked. And again with the next command -- "make test" didn't work but "sudo make test" did. I wouldn't expect that to cause problems like this. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help. Lynda Howell.

Can anyone help a new Koha user?

Hi Stewart If the only reason you are trying to install Koha on Windows is that you don't know how to install and use Linux then I think we need to find some way we can help you set up a Linux box and help you set up Koha on it. Once Koha is up and running on a Linux (preferably Debian) PC, then more people will be able to help you with issues and questions you may have later on. Now about helping you to set up Debian Linux first, then Koha: How about you spend you time and effort on learning how to install Debian on a PC. I assure you it will be worth the effort. You can find help online how to do that. And, I'm thinking, perhaps I can help you set up Debian on a PC on a Sunday using chat (#koha, Yahoo etc), or Skype. Have not thought much about it yet. Just an idea. But seems possible. We can talk about it. Once Debian is set-up, then installing Koha using Debia koha-common package is very easy. You decide. Be brave. Hi, Lori, We had a similar barcode problem. Our library has two different barcode patterns, and we needed a way to canonicalize them for Koha. Our solution was to buy a new optical scanner that was programmable. For under US$200 we purchased a Symbol LS2208 barcode scanner. It supports a programming capability called Advanced Data Formatting. You can program the scanner to recognize certain character strings, for example "p 000" and either scan or skip following characters. There is almost no limit to what you can program the thing to handle. Now Koha never "sees" the barcode variants. The new scanner is also more sensitive and accurate than our old one.
