Fwd: Hosted Linux solution for Koha?
by Elaine Bradtke 18 Jun '12

18 Jun '12

Sorry meant to reply to the list! Ours is hosted remotely. No problems, aside from the time a BMW took out the junction box on the corner and we lost the Internet connection for two days. But it certainly pays to have someone knowledgeable check out the fine print of the contract and etc. to make sure it suits your needs and that you have the access you require. Koha 3.8.1 'zebra searching' failure
by Kate Jones 18 Jun '12

18 Jun '12

Hi, our Koha at the Library of National Botanic Garden of Wales has been working with no problems for over 2 years. The system has been run, maintained, backed up etc on a local server by Library volunteers who have no IT background, and with no tech support. Installed by us, using kohalivecd, and running in Ubuntu. The company who provide IT support for the Garden's network and servers have finally agreed to take on tech support for the Library, so we offered them our complete and up-to-date back up files, but they have instead chosen to migrate the system themselves and have installed Koha 3.8.1 on a new server. I am not aware which version of Linux they are using. So far, so good... BUT the Zebra searching isn't working, in fact it's not clear that Zebra is there at all, but when I tried switching 'NoZebra' so as not to use Zebra, it still didn't work. In addition, the Z39.50 searching isn't working either. I have now asked the IT people to switch us back to our old system while they sort it out, which they've done, so at least we now do have a functioning Koha again, but wonder if anyone out there in the Koha community has had any problems with 3.8.1 and Zebra, or can suggest something for me to pass on to the Tech Support company. Any suggestions will be gratefully received. Kate Jones (Volunteer librarian, National Botanic Garden of Wales)

Hosted Linux solution for Koha?
by Christine Othitis 17 Jun '12

17 Jun '12

Hi group, I have a technical question that I hope someone can answer. We have been trying to get Koha up and running for some time while we inventory our records (boxes and boxes!) The problem is that the server was donated as well as the tech support. Koha was running until the server locked up, and then my husband worked his techie magic and updated Ubuntu. We still have to configure Koha again for it to work. The drive is very old and making ticking sounds - so - not an ideal situation. Are there any downsides to using a hosted Linux solution for Koha? The major upside I can see right now is tech support being a phone call away :-D Thanks, Christine

force install DBD::SQLite2
by Andi Sugandi 16 Jun '12

16 Jun '12

Hi all, Is it safe to 'force install DBD::SQLite2' in cpan according to the failed 'make test'[1] on my VDS (CentOS 6.2, x86_64) machine (btw, this is another issue[2] on the same machine): [1] http://paste.koha-community.org/456 [2] http://lists.katipo.co.nz/pipermail/koha/2012-June/033159.html As we know, DBD::SQLite2 is one of the required Perl modules that should be installed before running Koha Web Installer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and have nice weekend. Best regards, -- Andi Sugandi.
