New user registrations on the wiki
by Galen Charlton 05 Dec '12

05 Dec '12

Hi, As was decided during the community meeting today, requests for new accounts on the Koha wiki [1] will now require manual approval. This is done in order to reduce the amount time that folks have had to spend to remove spam; consequently, the only criterion for getting a new wiki account is that you appear to be a sentient lifeform with a desire to improve the Koha wiki, or at least do no harm to it. The following individuals have volunteered to manage requests for new wiki accounts: Chris Cormack Katrin Fischer David Nind MJ Ray and myself, Galen Charlton In addition, any person who is already a wiki administrator or "bureaucrat" has the power to approve or reject requests for new accounts. The account moderators will use their best judgment to determine if a new account request is valid or if it is from a bot or spammer. However, it is possible that valid requests may get denied. If that happens to you, please don't panic -- you can email me or any of the moderators directly or go to the #koha IRC channel to get it sorted out. I am seeking additional volunteers to manage the queue of new user accounts with the aim of getting comprehensive coverage of all time zones. The volunteers are responsible for checking the account request queue periodically [2] and vetting new requests. If you would like to volunteer, please contact me; I will approve any volunteer as long as you already have a wiki account and you have any kind of track record (even if it is yet small) of positive contributions to Koha or the Koha community. In addition, I will be performing a purge of accounts on the wiki. Specifically, I will be removing all user accounts that are: [1] blocked, or [2] have only contributed edits that were subsequently marked as spam, or [3] which are at least 10 days old and which have never made any edits to the wiki. I apologize in advance to any folks whose inactive wiki account gets swept up in this, but I want to make sure that existing spam accounts get deleted. I have a problem with the call number sorting in the OPAC, koha version 3.00.06. I have been review the list but nothing. In the marc records, the call number is in the 082 field, that is associated to cn_class index. Or is that the call number sorting is made it by another field and not by the 082 ?? Please any help. Re: [Koha] How to change fine calculation timing: another appeal
by Vimal Kumar V. 05 Dec '12

Dear Friends, I tried to connect cronjob with anacron. I added the following lines in anacron file. Open the file gedit /etc/anacrontab And add the following lines in it and save. 1 10 cron.daily koha-foreach /etc/cron.daily This line will execute Koha related crontab daily after 10 minutes when system start. I found that fine calculated and display in circulation module. Try yourself and give your feed back. Thank you Robin Sheat for inform us about the use of anacron for Koha cronjobs. -- Vimal Kumar V. A couple Koha acquisitions questions
by Ann-Marie Breaux 05 Dec '12

05 Dec '12

Hi everyone, YBP is a book wholesaler for academic libraries. We have several libraries now using Koha as their ILS. The acquisitions functionality seems a little light, and less integrated than we have with other systems. Could you confirm the following for me? 1. Is there any EDI functionality in Koha yet? Can libraries send EDIFACT Orders and/or receive EDIFACT POAs or Invoices? 2. If a library has placed an order in the book vendor's online system, is there any way to load that order information into Koha without rekeying? Some systems we work with can accept acquisitions data in 9xx MARC fields to populate into an order record automatically. I've spoken with a couple support companies and reviewed the documentation on the Koha-community site, but don't see that these are possibilities. Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide. Koha users browser preference?
by Suzanne Fayle 05 Dec '12

05 Dec '12

Hello Koha community! We are taking a look at the Koha ILS currently. We haven't begun implementation yet but I figured sending a hello and question to the list wouldn't hurt. I'm curious to know if Koha works better in one browser over another browser? I understand that it works in all browsers but I'd like to hear what those using it think. Here we typically use Firefox, IE or Chrome on Windows. Links shelving locations to maps
by Maria Okonska 04 Dec '12

04 Dec '12

Hi there, Brooklyn Law School Library would like to share with everyone the simple solution to link your shelving locations to maps. The only one challenge is that the script cannot extend 80 characters. 1. --> Go to staff module 2. --> Administration 3. --> Show category 4. --> LOC 5. --> Description (OPAC) 6. --> Edit 7. --> Description (OPAC) 8. --> Enter script (<center><a href="https://services.brooklaw.edu/library/I.pdf"><br>INT'L</a>) You have to store your maps on your local server. It would be really beneficial if more characters could be added to each category, it doesn't seem to be the big development. I hope that this will improve our OPACS display and make our users very happy. To see examples in our catalog please visit us: https://catalog.brooklaw.bywatersolutions.com/ Please share your comments.
