What notes fields show
by Nicole Engard 28 Jan '13

28 Jan '13

Bug 9162 says that all 5xx (MARC21) or 3xx (UNIMARC) fields show in the title notes tab, but that's not the case, I know that we have had people ask to add notes fields to that. Can someone tell me what fields show in that tab by default - or tell me where to look in the code to find out? I'm documenting the new NotesBlacklist preference and want to say what fields show by default so you know which ones you can exclude. Nicole

Opinion regarding BZ9438 (acquisition notes)
by Mathieu Saby 28 Jan '13

28 Jan '13

Hello Our vendor wrote a patch correcting a bug in acquisition notes management. (http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=9438) But as Katrin Fisher pointed out, "the confusing behaviour has been there for a long while." So we want to be sure everybody agrees with the new behavior... Here is a description of the bug : When you create a new order in a basket from an existing record , Koha search for the field "notes" (300 unimarc, 500 marc21) in the record, and copy its content in the "notes" field of the order line. But the note in 300/500 fields contains bibliographic information ("contains index" etc), whereas "note" field on the ordeline contains information regarding the order ("very urgent" etc). So the patch breaks the connexion between bibliographic note and acquisition note. Does everybody agrees with this patch? Regards, M. Re: [Koha] Which Koha version to use
by Quoc Uy 28 Jan '13

28 Jan '13

Each 6 months, a new version of Koha (3.4, 3.6, 3.8, 3.10...) released. And then, people will support more to make update once a month (for example 3.x.x). There are lot of problems with update& upgrade Koha earch version. Koha 3.6 was old-stable, but it is still supported, for someone who does not want to upgrade to Koha 3.8. Now koha 3.8 is stable version and 3.10 is new freeze version. Of course 3.10 has lots of bug fixed, better features, but has some new error, too. So if you did work with Koha before, i encourage you to use 3.10 (now newest is 3.10.2) and if not, use 3.8.9 is much easier.

Some queries on Koha Software
by bnjha Amity 28 Jan '13

28 Jan '13

Dear Sir/ Madam, 1. This is with reference to our Telephonic call Yesterday. 2. I am pleased to share with you that we at Amity University, Noida have switched over to Koha Software. 3. While cataloguing the Books we are facing some problems as below : (i) The tag No. 100, 440, 650, 658 and 700 are locked i.e it does not write anything when we try to make proper entry over there. (ii) Z 39.50 is not functioning. When we try to import details of any title from z39.50 it does not appear saying that there is some connection error. (iii) About some 40,000 books have been entered in Koha by the vendor. we neeed to know their new accession number so that it could be changed accordingly on the proper book. You are kindly requested to let us know that from where the reports of books already in Koha could be generated on excel sheet.( Accession register) Thanking You Bibhuti Nath Jha Asst. Librarian, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh

Re: [Koha] Koha Digest, Vol 87, Issue 38
by Quoc Uy 28 Jan '13

Dear All Koha Users, Is it possible to operate 100 libraries centrally having data of 2million books? ==>With one installation of Koha: You can create 100 branches libraries with one shared database with 2 million books. or you can create 100 libraries with 100 different databases (but with 200 millions books- i think not good for your server...) Is it possible to issue and return books off line when internet is not available? ==> Yes, tool works in Firefox Is it possible to give user only few rights i.e. cataloging and circulation? ==> Yes, create some staff, give them few permission (for example work with circulation, cataloging, not work with system-preferences ) Is it possible to make two data bases at a time i.e one for client and one for main server in case more than 100 libraries in one system? ==> i answered before, not 2 database, but 100... or you need make one more installation in another server Can I change MARC fields for my users i.e. limited fields only ==> Not very clearly what you want, but you can change MARC fields as you want Can pre printed bar code lables be pasted on books while using Koha i.e. (I want to take a detail, let say we have a bar code # 1 i.e. pre printed and we want to add this # 1 in our koha, is this possible? ==> YOu can pre-print barcode labels and pasted on books. Then you can use a barcode scan to add it into Koha. Only one thing, it must be original. Koha accept 1 barcode for 1 item. Koha has a tools, which help you to print out barcode of books, which you imported. I would really be thankful to you for your guidance, ==>You're welcome!
