koha authorities
by schnydszch 30 Jan '13

30 Jan '13

Good day koha community. For example, I have an authority record (Personal Name) Muhammad Ali and is used in a particular bibliographic record. Muhammad Ali also has other names e.g. Casius Clay, Muhammed Ali. Will it be possible if I search for Casius Clay, bibliographic records with Muhammad Ali as authority record will come out in the search result? There is maybe some sort of connection (See also?) between Muhammad Ali and Casius Clay? TIA. :) -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/koha-authorities-tp5740424.html Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Recommendations for circulation printer
by Suzanne Fayle 29 Jan '13

29 Jan '13

Hello everyone, Curious to know what circulation receipt printers libraries are using. Any major problems with certain ones? Is there any one that works best with Koha? We are currently using EPSON TM-U220 but would like to purchase new ones when we move to Koha. I'm thinking moving to thermal printers would be a good idea. Any suggestions/advice is appreciated! Koha Usage Examples
by Mark Johnson 29 Jan '13

29 Jan '13

Hello Koha Community My name's Mark Johnson, and I work for OSS Watch at the University of Oxford. Recently, we published a document entitled "Open Source Options for Education"[1] which includes a mention of Koha. After we announced the document's publication, we received some feedback from the Koha community via Twitter that we'd given the wrong link and a misleading example of Koha's usage, so I've come here to make sure that we can set it right. We've not changed the link for Koha to point to koha-community.org, as requested by a message on Twitter[2]. We were also informed that our example of Koha being used at the University of the West of England was in fact "LibLime Academic Koha", which "is not FOSS, nor has it ever been"[3]. This is obviously a misunderstanding on my part. It was my understanding that LibLime was simply a company providing commercial support for the open source Koha product. Am I now correct in believing that it (also?) produces a separate, closed-source product called "LibLime Academic Koha"? Any background to this would be very much appreciated. Finally, if anyone would be willing to share an example of the open source Koha system being used in their educational institution for me to use in place of the UWE example, particularly if they are based in the UK, I would be very grateful indeed! Many Thanks Mark Johnson [1] http://www.oss-watch.ac.uk/resources/ossoptionseducation [2] https://twitter.com/nengard/status/293088894000451585 [3] https://twitter.com/KohaAloha/status/293313158410534913 -- Mark Johnson Development Manager OSS Watch http://oss-watch.ac.uk

Dear All Koha Users, I want to shift my 100 libraries on Koha with centralized server. My questions are : Is it possible to operate 100 libraries centrally having data of 2million books? Is it possible to issue and return books off line when internet is not available? Is it possible to give user only few rights i.e. cataloging and circulation? Is it possible to make two data bases at a time i.e one for client and one for main server in case more than 100 libraries in one system? Can I change MARC fields for my users i.e. limited fields only Can pre printed bar code lables be pasted on books while using Koha i.e. (I want to take a detail, let say we have a bar code # 1 i.e. pre printed and we want to add this # 1 in our koha, is this possible? I would really be thankful to you for your guidance, Regards, Muhammad Usman Khan Library Dep't Regionl Office, Central ________________________________ This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the named individual(s). Error, "can't call method "title"...
by Amy Schuler 28 Jan '13

28 Jan '13

Hello Koha users, I am running Koha v. 3.06.04.000 on Apache/2.2.9 (Debian). I tried deleting this record but an error obviously occurred, because it still shows up when I search for it. When I select the record to edit it, I get this message: "Can't call method "title" on an undefined value at /home/koha/kohaclone/cataloguing/addbiblio.pl line 913." And when I simply click the record, I get this message: " The record you requested does not exist (14540)." I tried reindexing Koha (reindex_koha) but the record is still present. Short of tinkering in the back end of the mysql database, is there anything I can do to get rid of the dud? Thanks! Amy schulera(a)caryinstitute.org<mailto:schulera@caryinstitute.org> Amy C. Koha Branches - a question from the field
by Indranil Das Gupta 28 Jan '13

28 Jan '13

Dear friends, A Koha (3.8) user colleague posed an interesting question today. At present at their college, they have created a College-level group, and under this they have created departmental branches. Books and other items belong to these departments as well as as to the college library. At present, these "departmental" libraries are strictly notional entities (they essentially represent subjects, funds and acquisition heads), as the actual items all reside at the college library's stacks. And therein lays the question. Suppose in future, one of these departments wish to actually set up a separate departmental library, with their existing holdings continuing to stay at the college's library and only new acquisitions being located in the departmental library, what would the librarian need to / can do to address this in Koha. what you suggest? thanks in advance -- Indranil Das Gupta Phone : +91-98300-20971 Blog : http://indradg.randomink.org/blog IRC : indradg on irc://irc.freenode.net Twitter : indradg -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Please exchange editable Office documents only in ODF Format.
