008 field not displaying properly during cataloguing
by Elaine Bradtke 27 Jun '13

27 Jun '13

I'm still trying to get to the bottom of this, because I can't replicated it on my end. . . but I thought I'd ask if anyone else has seen this problem. We are running 3.10.6 My colleagues are complaining that when they are editing a record, all the fields in the 008 field pop up box say 'not defined'. I've asked them to send me a screen shot, but they've gone home already. Questions I've asked: What browser are they using? Have they set the type of material correctly? What framework are they using? Do they have any pop up blockers set in their browser? Is there anything else I should check for? I've looked at a couple records that they said had the problem on their end, and they all appear to work as they should. So I'm thinking it's not a Koha problem per se. It works fine for me running Chrome. When I worked in the building, I managed to wean them off of IE, but they've all gotten new computers and I'm a long way away. . .so I can't say what they're using now. -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 (This number is for the English Folk Dance and Song Society in London, England. Users of the 'katipo' checkdigit setting, represent!
by Galen Charlton 26 Jun '13

26 Jun '13

Hi, If there are any Koha users who have their checkdigit system preference set to 'katipo', please let me know. It's my understanding the this setting was originally created for specifically for the Horowhenua Library Trust, but that they're no longer using it because of their switch to RFID tags. Another Koha developer is doing some work on the patron barcode generation code, and as it happens, if no library is using the "katipo" checkdigit option, for technical reasons it would be nice to remove the code that supports it. FW: [Fwd: "No copies available" for all items after importing MARC records]
by King, Fred 26 Jun '13

26 Jun '13

Hi Steve, Sorry for the delay in responding--I pried myself away from my computers for a few days' camping. I'm running 3.12.0 on Xubuntu installed from Koha Live DVD 3.10 and then updated/upgraded. Here's what I ended up doing: Run fix_onloan.pl Create a dummy user account. Check out every book in the collection to the user, then check them back in. Everything should show as available now. Elegant? No. Time-consuming for a huge collection? Yes. (Our collection is around 19,000 items.) The best way to do it? Probably not. The only benefit is that it works. It goes much faster if you can get a list of all the barcodes in the system, then use KOC files to do mass-checkouts. MUCH faster than scanning every barcode. E-mail me if you'd like details, or I can post to the list if anyone thinks it would be useful. Fred King Medical Librarian, MedStar Washington Hospital Center fred.king(a)medstar.net 202-877-6221 ---------------------------- Original Message ---------------------------- Subject: [Koha] "No copies available" for all items after importing MARC records From: "Steven Nickerson" <snicker1(a)maine.rr.com> Date: Fri, June 21, 2013 4:45 pm To: koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi everyone, I'm running Koha 3.12.0.0 installed from the Debian packages. I've used MarcEdit to create some MARC records to import our "holdings" but when I search ALL items come up showing "No copies available" for an Availability status. I did pretty much the same thing a couple of months back on our "test" environment and was successful at getting all of our records imported and created a "template" / map file in MarcEdit that I used again this time to try to import into our "production" system, but am now getting this message for all items. I'm not 100% sure what version of Koha our "test" system was running (and it is now shutdown), but is it possible that some fields are now in different places in the database? I have looked at items.barcode, items.homelibrary, and items.holdinglibrary and all 3 of those fields have correct values in my current database.are there other fields that are required for Koha to know that we actually hold a copy of that item for check-out? I also did notice on the MARC import in Koha that the "MARC21" encoding set was NOT an available choice.only UTF-8 and MARC8 and a couple of others.could this have something to do with it? Are my records not getting imported properly, perhaps? If so, how do I enable MARC21 format in Koha? Any ideas what I might be missing or where else to look? THANKS! multivolumepart?
by Marius Stoica 26 Jun '13

26 Jun '13

Hi, I work in a library that catalogs separately each volume of a multivolume book. I'm testing koha for a couple of days and today I tried to catalog a multivolume book. We have an ILS in which we can catalog the multivolume book as a whole without adding items, then we catalog each volume and use the linking bloc 4 (461) from unimarc to link to the set level and add items to each volume. I'm not sure now if this is possible in koha. Am I missing something? I apriciate some tips. Thanks Marius Stoica

Koha + RFID + automatic book sorting system
by Anne Lena Westrum 26 Jun '13

26 Jun '13

Hello Koha Community! I am wondering whether some of you have experience with Koha and RFID or Koha+RFID and automatic book sorting systems? In Oslo, Norway, we are currently planning a new main library stretching across 5 floors with an automated book sorting system as the main logistics "channel" between the floors. The main library is also serving 16 different branches in Oslo, plus all the other libraries in Norway that do ILL from us. We are running a proprietary ILS today, but are considering switching to FOSS. All our books are chipped with RFID and we have self checkout/returns machines, but we do not have a book sorting machine. That is something for the new building. It would be great if someone could share their experiences with Koha and RFID/book sorting systems with us and help us avoid the - I am sure - known traps that are there. A name of a library or person we should contact is also very welcome! I am looking forward to hearing from you! :) Best regards, Anne-Lena Westrum -- Project manager Digital development team
