Jared and the team, My deepest appreciations to you and the rest of the Koha team. You might not know how much you have done especially for Libraries in Africa which cannot afford commercial Library Systems and even if they do the running costs of those systems are overkill. I can attest to that as I work for a University which initially bought a very expensive system with a grant but the running costs and costs of additional modules were too much for my university. When I discovered Koha it was a blessing. I took sometime learning it but when we finally implemented it, it was worth all the time I spent learning it. I am trying to learn one or two programming langauges myself so that I can contribute positively to the open source community. The second is that just over a month ago I finished my term as Release Manager for Koha 3.12. I am very proud of what we did during my six month term. Koha has more features and works better for more libraries than ever before. I think that's a big deal. During those six months, I spent a lot of time working on Koha, as my wife can attest. I think I could count on my fingers the number of days in the entire release cycle (more than six months!) that I didn't do _anything_ related to the Koha release. I did this because I believe that Koha is important, and a better Koha is better for all of us. >From a business point of view, volunteering my time was a good investment because I am now selling and supporting a better system. But you know what? I don't expect to be paid for all that time I spent volunteering my time for the community. Volunteering my time to build Koha 3.12 was its own (sometimes frustrating) reward. That's what Open Source is all about*, and I am proud to be a member of a community that understands this. Regards, Jared Camins-Esakov *Not to say that you can't or shouldn't make money from working on Open Source projects. I believe strongly that you can and should (and, of course, my company does), but contributing to an Open Source project like Koha is about more than just money. P.S. Another Koha library goes live
by King, Fred 03 Jul '13

03 Jul '13

MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, went live with Koha yesterday. We've been using the staff client for a couple of weeks, but now our catalog link points to Koha as well. I don't think anyone's noticed yet, but it's nice to be off our old Horizon system. Sorry I can't provide a link-we're on an intranet behind a firewall. Cron does not trigger email notifications script - help
by satish 01 Jul '13

01 Jul '13

Hi All, I have installed Koha 3.12.01 (by packages) On Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS server edition. And using postfix to send email notifications (installed using the guide: http://kohageek.blogspot.in/search/label/postfix) and configured with gmail. koha-conf.xml path also has been set properly in both the files. 1) kOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/sites/mvs/koha-conf.xml 2) /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/context .pm I am testing email notifications for every check-in and check-out for patrons. when the script run manually ( ./process_message_queue.pl) , Koha and postfix is able to send mails. but koha cron is not processing respective script on the scheduled time and not delivering emails. cron entry is: # SEND EMAILS 15 * * * * __KOHA_USER__ $KOHA_CRON_PATH/process_message_queue.pl can you please advice me how to fix this? or any other possibilities. thank you in advance. Satish MV Librarian Government Engineering College Hassan - 573 201 Karnataka. --
