Re: [Koha] Upgrade koha 3.8

I think, it's not enough to just downloud source and switch branche, you have to tu an "upgrade" (as descripted in previous link) and also, it's not enough to use mysql db from 3.8 in 3.12 version, there are changes in db structure... which kind of error do you get? Thinking of Koha
by Kivilahti Olli-Antti 11 Sep '13

11 Sep '13

Hello Koha! and greetings from the Joensuu Regional library, Finland. 18 months ago we made a feature comparison between Koha and Evergreen. Both ILS' stood out equal, but Evergreen won based on it's existing merits in consortial operations against it's inherent development hardships. Those hardships have manifested and we are facing rather strenous challenges here, including localization challenges and challenges in making simple things like z39.50 searches function with our national catalogs, not to mention the sad state of the serials module, notifications and action triggers and general slow speed of development we are facing here. Not to mention frustratingly poor code documentation. This has led me to question our direction. So I took another look yesterday at the Koha-community, installed the community Koha, configured and tested our national z39.50-targets, loaded several localizations. I am looking forward to achieving a lot more today. Also Koha has evolved a lot during the past 18 months we have been focusing on Evergreen. After a brief look it seems that we should re-evaluate our stand on Koha. -Do you have any idea if there is somekind of an updated feature list for Koha? -Do you have a personal suggestion about differences between Koha and Evergreen communities? -Do you have anyone in mind who could take a look at our requirements specification and evaluate it's compliance level to Koha? We have around 300 short and simple requirement tickets that needs to be evaluated and a handful of process schematics. -Any opinions about Koha performance on a medium public library? Max 100 000 patrons, 300 000 bibliographic records. 1 000 000 items. I feel it would be reasonable for us to change our direction if Koha provides stable performance and the most basic functionality on all library modules (serials, circulation, acquisitions, reporting, notifications, templates, cataloguing, interfaces etc.). I am yet to analyze the architecture and code documentation, but based on the Koha API descriptions I am feeling extremely positive. We are targeting Q1/Q2 of 2014 for our ILS migration and are also willing to pay for migration support for the COMMUNITY version of Koha. Support would mostly focus on daily library operations and configurations. Most utility tasks regarding ILS migration have "almost" been resolved, like data migration, municipal participation and cooperation agreements, server hosting. SIP2 testing error
by Catherine Kerrigan 10 Sep '13

10 Sep '13

Hello folks! We're new to the Koha world and have just installed the latest version of Koha in preparation for the installation of an RFID/self-check system. Running a SIP test today, we got the following: sudo perl -IC4/SIP/ -MILS C4/SIP/SIPServer.pm /etc/koha/SIPconfig.xml We get the following error back: UNIVERSAL->import is deprecated and will be removed in a future perl at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/SIP/Sip/MsgType.pm line 22 mismatched tag at line 92, column 2, byte 3028 at /usr/lib/perl5/XML/Parser.pm line 187 We searched the community website unsuccessfully to determine the problem, so now we are putting it out to the community in the hope that someone might be able to figure out what we are doing incorrectly. Many thanks in anticipation of your help. It’s Time To Register and Make Your Hotel Reservations for KohaCon 13
by Keener, Nancy 09 Sep '13

09 Sep '13

Hello Koha-Community. We are beginning to finalize our plans with the Atlantis, our conference hotel. We have to get our final numbers in order to allow the hotel to provide us with free meeting space and wifi. Please be sure to register to attend KohaCon 13 and make your hotel reservations by Sept. 15th in order to get your special low room rate. We have approximately 110 people who have registered so far for the conference, but not all have made their room reservations. Here is the link for the low room rate: https://www.reserveparadise.com/cgi-bin/lansaweb?procfun+rn+resnet+atl+func… We have a great lineup of speakers for the first three days. We will be learning about the Koha-Community organization, Libki, RFID, setting up your server, Itiva phone notification, best practices, bug testing, and a whole lot more. In Reno we have been in the 80 degree F temperature range for the days, with cool nights in the 50 degree F range. The fire at the Yosemite National Park is south of Reno. Even though it is far away, we have been getting the smoke for about a month. The fire is over 80% contained. In the last few days we have seen clear skies again. The Great Reno Balloon Race was held last weekend. Have a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiDQPn09cNQ Today we see airplanes practicing for the Reno Air Races which start on Wednesday. This is an exciting week for us. I live on the other side of the hills at the end of the runway! William lives at the end of the runway, and gets a really great underside view of the planes as they take off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6WtvXtNtI0&list=TL3qzWkrOD4zU The time is now! Let’s get ready for KohaCon 13! Nancy Keener Systems Librarian I.T.O.S.C. Chair KohaCon 13 Chair Washoe County Library System Reno, Nevada 775 327-8347 nkeener(a)washoecounty.us
