Re: [Koha] Problem in Data conversion excel to marc

Try this approach to create your Marc data from excel files. http://manual.koha-community.org/3.2/en/marceditexcel.html The one step that needs to be added is in the Marc Delimited Text Translator. Before you press finish, right-click on all the 952 fields and join them together. This gives a clean input of the 952 data and only adds one item per excel row. Koha 3.14.0 released
by Galen Charlton 28 Nov '13

28 Nov '13

Hi, The Koha community is pleased to announce the release of version 3.14.0 of the Koha library automation system. Koha 3.14.0 is a major functionality release that includes various new features, including: * A new default theme, “Bootstrap”, for the public catalog interface. The Bootstrap theme provides a reponsive design that works well both for desktop web browsers and mobile devices. * A new course reserves module. * A new offline circulation module that is entirely browser-based. * A revamp of the serials predication system which allows for significantly more flexibility in managing patterns. * The ability to create lists of patrons. * The ability to search for items to check out by keyword rather than barcode. * The ability to overlay item records during batch imports. * The ability to define rules (called MARC modification templates) for batch-modifying MARC records during import. * Numerous acquisitions workflow improvements, including the ability to move orders from one vendor to another, search acquisitions history, merge duplicate invoices, and get warnings if a new order would over-commit a fund. * Cataloging improvements including the ability to import authority record via Z39.50, the ability to merge authority records, and the ability to save and continue editing bib records. * Support for schema.org microdata in the OPAC to increase the visibility of your catalog to search engines. There are also a number of under-the-hood improvements, including * Zebra DOM filter support for UNIMARC bib and authority records. * The introduction of an ORM, DBIx::Class. * Significantly improved unit test coverage. And, as always, there are numerous bugfixes and minor improvements. Koha can be downloaded from http://download.koha-community.org. Debian packages of Koha 3.14.0 will be available shortly. As release manager for Koha 3.14, I would like to thank everybody who contributed patches, documentation, testing, moral support, money, and time to the effort. Koha users both old and new should find 3.14 a tasty piece of π indeed. Additional details, including the release notes, can be found at http://koha-community.org/koha-3-14-0-released/ Regards, Galen -- Galen Charlton Manager of Implementation Equinox Software, Inc. / The Open Source Experts email: gmc(a)esilibrary.com direct: +1 770-709-5581 cell: +1 404-984-4366 skype: gmcharlt web: http://www.esilibrary.com/ Supporting Koha and Evergreen: http://koha-community.org & http://evergreen-ils.org

Invitation to participate in the annual Library Automation Perceptions survey
by Marshall Breeding 27 Nov '13

27 Nov '13

To all libraries using Koha: I'm collecting data for this year's International Library Automation Perceptions survey. This survey, now in its seventh annual iteration, provides an opportunity for libraries to register their perceptions of the strategic automation products they use, organizations that provide these products, and the quality of support delivered. The survey also probes at considerations for migrating to new systems and the level of interest in open source products. As open source software supported both by the general community and by specific companies, some special considerations apply to Koha. In the lib-web-cats directory, Koha is represented by a combination of the name Koha and the primary support organization involved. (For example Koha - Catalyst IT). Libraries relying entirely on community support or internal resources are represented as Koha - Independent. If there are any special support arrangements not covered by these conventions, just mention that in the comments area of the survey. In this way the survey will be able to reflect both the functionality of the Koha software and the quality of support provided. While the numeric rating scales support the statistical results of the study, it's the comments offered that provide the most insight into the current state of library automation satisfaction. Comments will be published in the survey results, redacted to conceal text that might identify the individual or organization responding. Please help your fellow libraries who might be in the process of evaluating library automation options by responding to the survey. Any information regarding vendor performance and product quality can be helpful when making strategic decisions regarding automation alternatives. A large number of responses strengthen the impact of the survey and the subsequent report. If you have responded in previous years, please respond again this year to help identify any trends regarding improvement or worsening of the products or support services. For more information about the survey, for instructions on how to participate, and to see results of previous year's survey reports, see: http://www.librarytechnology.org/blog.pl?ThreadID=263&BlogID=1 I hope that all libraries using Koha will respond. Feel free to forward this request to any other library-related list. Please let me know if there are any questions regarding the survey. Re: [Koha] LiveDVD building
by Mark Tompsett 27 Nov '13

27 Nov '13

Greetings, I'd like to point out that your LiveDVD is not the sanctioned one, and that Nguyen Quoc Uy is listed as responsible for generating a 3.14.x LiveDVD. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_3.14 Also, no such role will exist for 3.16 -- I guess no one should up for the role voting and discussing IRC meetings. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_3.16 As for VKV's LiveDVD (http://sourceforge.net/projects/kohalivedvd/) except for the fact that it was Ubuntu Desktop (Koha is intended to be a server, and not running on just a single machine), I thought that was an okay attempt at one. It also has the advantage of being able to sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and then you have the latest version, just like a package installation, if you use it as an installation DVD. :) It should be noted as well that LiveDVDs have the sad distinction of being out of date the instant they are burned and distributed. So, my understanding of the general consensus on LiveDVDs is that they are bad for production use, but great for trial use, training sessions, or other short-term non-production uses.
