UNIMARC - Linking Authority 280 heading field with the Bibliographic 675 field
by Bacamarte JN 03 Apr '14

03 Apr '14

Ref: Koha 3.14.05 on Ubuntu OS 12.04 LTS Packages into VirtualBox Hi, By making changes in the 280 heading field to create an UDC authority type, the filling process of the bibliographic field 675, subfield <<a>>, is automatic, as can be seen in the images attached. But, unlike the other types of authority, the data of the subfield <<3>>, i.e., the corresponding authority record number is missed. Without this identifier, nobody can retrieve bibliographic records by searching UDC authority headers, although the UDC notations can be seen in ISBD format, not in normal view. I presume there is a script somewhere linking fields 280-608 that can be changed to correct this fault. Can anyone confirm if my assumption is this true and, if so, give me detailed instructions, i.e., step by step please (I'm just a librarian) on how to fix this? And finally, how to change to TEXT the data type of the subfield <<c>> of the field 280, since some UDC notations have huge callouts? Many thanks in advance! Hi all, I've got trouble with a phantom itype that can't be deleted. When I try to delete it from the client I get this notice: Cannot delete item type This record is used 1 times. Deletion is not possible. But I can't find where is this itype being used? mysql> select * from items where items.itype='PUZZ'; Empty set (0.00 sec) Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. original title in OPAC
by Giuseppe Angilella 02 Apr '14

02 Apr '14

Hi, how do I display the title in the original language of a translated item in the OPAC? This should be contained in the MARC field 765$t (which is normally hidden). (A varying form of title, as recorded in 246$a, is shown as "Other title".) Should 765$t be somehow linked to the subtitle field? Many thanks. Giuseppe.

Problem with Wireless Scanner and Inventory/Stocktaking Module
by Darcy Gullacher 02 Apr '14

02 Apr '14

I am a problem that has stumped me, our IT tech, and our support team. I recently bought a Motorola CS3000 wireless scanner for the sole purpose of doing inventory. Scanned barcodes are batch loaded in .txt format from the scanner into the Inventory module using the "Use a barcode file" section and submitted, as instructed in the manual. After several minutes of nothing happening, I receive the error message from the browser "Could Not Read Headers". Checking the submitted barcodes against our catalogue "something" has happened, because the items 'date last seen' now reads 00-00-0000. The support team at ESI believes this could be related to the ClamAV antivirus software, but we don't use that particular product. Here's what we've tried so far: - Tried in Chrome, FireFox, and IE. Same results. - Switching internal networks to bypass the firewall. Same result. - I had two other libraries that are part of our local consortium run the barcodes. They had no success either (neither of them has a wireless scanner, I'm the trailblazer in this regard). - I tried loading the file on through my personal laptop at my home. Same results. - I've tried changing the file format from .txt to .csv. Same results. - I loaded a file of barcodes using our wired scanner at the circulation desk. Same results. - I've checked the file using Notepad++ to catch any hidden characters. Nothing look out of line. We're on version 3.14.03.000 Any thoughts or assistance would be very, very appreciated. Darcy Gullacher Head Librarian/Registrar Rocky Mountain College 4039 Brentwood Road N.W. Placing Hold on recently added items
by Rajeshwari Nair 02 Apr '14

02 Apr '14

Hi, In KOHA (as far as I know!) any item type can either be "for loan" or "not for loan". Our KOHA settings do not allow members to place hold on items that are available on shelf. Needless to say items under 'reference' also cannot be put on hold. When new books are added they are classified as 'Recent Additions' and are placed on the 'Recent Additions Shelf" for display for a week. Item type 'Recent Additions' falls under 'not for loan' and thus cannot be issued until the items are reclassified to 'Books' while shelving. (This ensures that members do not issue a book that is on display.) The downside of this system is that since the item is under 'not for loan and available on shelf' members are unable to place hold on items that they would like to issue as soon as it is shelved. Can anyone suggest a way where members can place hold on items that are recently added but is on display? -Rajeshwari

by Ketan Kulkarni 02 Apr '14

Dear Experts, Issue: Our Koha server is unable to send email notification for any activity done (e.g. check-in/check-out) Requirement: Every action such as check-in/check-out should send an email notification to the patrons. Environment Overview: · We have Koha 3.14 with Debian O.S. · Microsoft Exchange 2010 server · Configured A.D. to Koha using LDAP o Our domain users are able to login into the OPAC and Admin pages o This means the LDAP is configured successfully Attempts: · Tried Sendmail (no email is sent) · Configured Postfix (email can be sent to gmail, hotmail, etc.) o Emails are going only through the terminal (mail -v test(a)gmail.com) but not through check-in/check-out · Configured Postfix with SMTP (no email is sent) Would appreciate your valuable inputs and suggestions. Many Thanks !

Report help
by Nicole Engard 01 Apr '14

I'm looking for a report that shows items that have holds on them where there are no other items available at the branch. Available being checked in and not lost. I was using this report as a starting point. SELECT i.itemnumber, i.reserves, i.issues, i.datelastseen, i.dateaccessioned, i.ccode, b.title, b.author, i.itemcallnumber, i.barcode, v.lib, IF(h.reservedate IS NULL, '', 'on hold') AS holds FROM items i LEFT JOIN biblio b USING (biblionumber) LEFT JOIN authorised_values v ON (i.itemlost=v.authorised_value) LEFT JOIN reserves h ON (b.biblionumber=h.biblionumber) WHERE i.itemlost != 0 AND v.category='LOST' and i.homebranch=<<Item's branch|branches>> Thanks in advance, Nicole
