Where are subject headings ( field 650$a) stored in in Koha database
by amutsikiwa＠uzlib.uz.ac.zw 14 Apr '14

14 Apr '14

Hi I imported close to 87000 items. I think I miss-align the subject column during data migration from liberty 3 to Koha, so the subjects are out of place. I would like to correct the error. I am interested in establishing which table in Koha holds subject headings and which field in particular. I will appreciate any pointers. irregular serial numbering
by Giuseppe Angilella 12 Apr '14

12 Apr '14

Hi, I'm having trouble in defining the numbering pattern for a serial. The serial is weekly (number icreases by one every new week, and is never reset to one), but the volume number increases at the beginning of each new second month. This means every 7, or 8, or 9 weeks (i.e., issues), depending on whether the two months contained 7, 8 or 9 weeks. Would it be possible to define such a numbering pattern with Koha? (FYI, the serial is "Nature".) Many thanks and best regards, Giuseppe.

errors, migrating from 3.10.04 to 3.14.04
by Jürgen Eichenbrenner 11 Apr '14

11 Apr '14

Hello, upgrading from a manually installed 3.10 Koha to a latest stable Koha Debian packages on a new server, I'm facing the following errors, when I run the upgrading database script via: $ sudo koha-upgrade-schema Is it necessary to upgrade in two steps instead, first from 3.10 to 3.12, followed by 3.12 to 3.14? Or do I anyway need to correct all errors manually, by creating missing tables (like the table „koha_INSTANCENAME.borrower_debarments“) which the script updatedatabase.pl fails to create ? Any hints and tips are highly appreciated! In Koha doesn't exists the "syspar.par" file because Koha is a web server system. The "Global system preferences" and other module tools help the admin user in the configuration and administration of Koha. Possible APP development
by Sue McMillan 10 Apr '14

10 Apr '14

Hello everyone, After a brainstorming session this morning I have come up with the idea of an Apple and Android app that give users the ability to manage their Koha account without signing in the library catalogue. Not knowing the limitations of apps (so I may be asking for too much!) these are the features that I feel patrons would find useful in a Koha app. There may be other crucial tasks that I haven't listed below that other libraries or patrons would find useful. 1. The app keeps the patron signed in (probably by entering their Library card number and password into the app) 2. Lists all resources currently issued to their card (or maybe the ones due in the next x number of days?) 3. Alerts patrons to resources that are coming up overdue. 4. Gives the patron the ability to renew books from the app, with a single swipe or click 5. Alerts the patron to Holds that come available for pickup 6. Gives the patron the ability to delete the hold with a single swipe or click and at the same time alerts the library via an email or something that the book is no longer needed. 7. Gives the patron the ability to contact the library via the app. 8. Gives the patron he ability to review a resource and leave a star rating (if this is enabled in the catalogue). 9. And the nice to have would be the ability to have something like amazon recommendations "Patrons who read this book also read.....) I would imagine patrons would want the ability to download the app for free from the Google play or iTunes store. Is there any library interested in such a development and a developer with the skills to undertake the project? Or possibly someone is already working on this. Chrome Boxes/Books
by glaws 09 Apr '14

Is anyone using Chrome Boxes/Books to authenticate via SIP to a Koha server for logins? I'm not familiar with Google's management console, although it apparently supports proxies, so I don't know what might be required to get that functionality. -- Greg Lawson Network Administrator Rolling Hills Consolidated Library 1912 N. Importing items problem
by Željko Puškarić 09 Apr '14

09 Apr '14

Hi everyone, I am trying to solve a problem of importing biblio records into Koha. the problem is that after import there aren't any items created. Biblios and biblioitems get created. Based on a record that I created in Koha which looks like (MARCXML format): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <record xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim http://www.loc.gov/standards/marcxml/schema/MARC21slim.xsd" xmlns="http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim"> <leader>007910000a22003250004500</leader> <controlfield tag="001">21414</controlfield> <datafield tag="010" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">9536160-09-9</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="090" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">21414</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="100" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">20131126 frey50 </subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="101" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">hrv</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="102" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">HR</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="200" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Bogovi, elite, narodi</subfield> <subfield code="e">studija</subfield> <subfield code="f">Vjeran Katunarić</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="210" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Zagreb</subfield> <subfield code="c">Izdanja Antibarbarusa</subfield> <subfield code="d">1994</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="215" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">225 str.</subfield> <subfield code="c">20 cm</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="225" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Biblioteka Electa</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="320" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Bibliografije: str. 247-254 i uz tekst</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="610" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Kultura i civilizacija</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="610" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Elite</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="610" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Religija</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="610" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Država</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="610" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Etatizam</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="3">000407</subfield> <subfield code="a">Katunarić</subfield> <subfield code="b">Vjeran</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="801" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">HR</subfield> <subfield code="b">NSB</subfield> <subfield code="g">HR PPIAK</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="901" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="6">M</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="908" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="4">FND</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="942" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="c">BK</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="946" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="1">000000</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="990" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">C-114</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="991" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="6">1</subfield> <subfield code="b">24267</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="998" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">941107004</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="995" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="f">0</subfield> <subfield code="0">0</subfield> <subfield code="9">6707</subfield> <subfield code="c">Sabor</subfield> <subfield code="2">0</subfield> <subfield code="k">C-114</subfield> <subfield code="5">1994-11-07</subfield> <subfield code="o">0</subfield> <subfield code="r">BK</subfield> <subfield code="b">Sabor</subfield> <subfield code="a">Sabor</subfield> </datafield> </record> I created import records as follows (one example, text format, UNIMARC used to import to Koha): 001 000003 010 ^a953-6213-00-1 090 ^a000003 100 19941113 101 ^ahrv 102 ^aHR 200 ^aNačela politike i drugi spisi^fBenjamin Constant^gpriredio Radule Knežević ; prevela Radmila Zdjelar 210 ^aZagreb^cPolitička kultura^d1993 215 ^a204 str.^d21 cm 225 ^aBiblioteka Minerva 610 ^aPolitika 610 ^aSuverenitet 610 ^aMonarhija, ustavna 610 ^aZastupnici 610 ^aParlament 610 ^aSloboda 610 ^aVlasništvo 610 ^aFrancuska 610 ^aDržavno uređnje 700 ^3001939^aConstant^bBenjamin 702 ^3001940^aKnežević^bRadule 801 ^aHR^bNSB^gHR PPIAK 900 000003 901 ^6M 908 ^4FND 909 1 942 ^cBK 946 ^1000000 980 HDS 990 ^aD-618 991 ^61^b24269 995 ^00^20^51994-11-13^aSabor^bSabor^cSabor^f0^j24269^kD-618^rBK 998 ^a941113001 but after import there are no items created in Koha. My rationale was that field 995 needs to be populated for items to get created but it does not work. Am I doing something wrong or items need to be imported in some other way? Extra 9xx fields (900, 901, 909, 946, 980, 990, 991 and 998) are from the old programm. With Best Regards, Željko Puškarić

how to use marc records displayed on library web pages?
by X Middleton 09 Apr '14

09 Apr '14

I do a fair bit of cataloging for a small library that has a lot of old/rare books, though I am an amateur librarian. I often use worldcat to find a library that has a copy of our uncatalogued book (when I can't find any z39.50 accessible sources). These libraries often have an option to display a MARC record. Is there some way to get such a display into Koha besides manually copy/pasting bits and pieces into a new MARC record? For example: http://tripod.brynmawr.edu/find/Record/.b3780640/Details#tabnav Copying and pasting the displayed record into a text file and trying to import it via "stage for import" does not work. I notice that Library of Congress has an option to download MARC records for its items, which can be 'staged for import" without a problem. Looking a the contents of the LoC downloaded MARC file, it looks almost nothing like the ones displayed by libraries which don't have a download option. I've searched the web (i think) exhaustively for clues as to how to actually handle or convert these "display" marc records into something usable (something that looks like the LoC downloaded MARC records), but with not success. I've installed and attempted to use MarcEdit and IsisMarc hoping they might have some functionality to convert/transform this data... but no luck. It just seems crazy that there's all this info out there, and I can't find any way to use it beyond the crudest (but better than nothing!) methods of cherry picking. What am I missing?
