update of OCLC holdings
by spark 05 Aug '14

05 Aug '14

Hi all, We use OCLC as a z39.50 target and import most of our bib data from OCLC, and were wondering if there is a recommended or proscribed procedure for the (preferably automated) update of our own local holdings in the OCLC database. Any ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Sean, Coos County Libraries, Oregon

Koha on virtual machine?
by Shelley & Kurt Kemperman 05 Aug '14

05 Aug '14

Asking this question for our IT guy: "Has any one tried to put Koha on a virtual machine like Oracle VM VirtualBox or VMWare fusion -- And run it from the desktop of a Mac? I have either a iMac or Xserve Apple Server I could use for this. It appears my server is on its way out and I need to come up with a solution for where I am going to put the next server. We need the server for our elementary school. Library days are only twice a week and all the classes can come through in a few hours. Our demands on the system are small, as Koha is only ever accessed from one computer. Has any one tried a solution like putting Koha in VMware on a Mac? Any feedback would be appreciated." Not sure if it matters for his question, but we have about 5000 items in our library. Thanks, Shelley

Dear Friends, Cooperation of end users and developers is necessary for the good health of Free/Open Source software projects. Library professionals are end users of Koha. The main aim of the survey is that know the participation and contribution of Library professionals to Koha project. This research revolves around a central question: "What do we need to do to derive benefit from Koha project?" I invite all Koha users to participate in this survey. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1xgE3i5ZABLm9yMZM4BFWFpAE_Wuv5rwW2u4arUGgFB… Regards, -- Vimal Kumar V. cross-links in analytics
by Giuseppe Angilella 04 Aug '14

Hi, when a "Link to host item" is added to a constituent record, the appropriate 773 Marc datafield is created in the constituent record, and populated with the appropriate subfields referring to the host item. Then, the OPAC for the constituent record does show the link to the host record. The converse seems not to be the case, i.e. no corresponding 774 Marc datafield is created in the host record, and no link appears in the host record's OPAC. Is this a feature, is it my mistake, or a bug? Many thanks and best regards, Giuseppe. P.S. I am aware that this issue has been issued before (also in this mailing list), but I could not find an answer.

Re: [Koha] Koha on virtual machine?

I don't know about running it from a MAC ?? But... I've run our koha install for an elementary library ( http://koha.almaschools.net/) as a VM off an ESXi box for two/three years now...no issues at all, very low usage. VM is a Debian install w/512 meg RAM allocated..... :-) runs like a champ. Generated barcode vs. label creator
by L. Jennings Rancourt 04 Aug '14

04 Aug '14

Hello, I am creating a new library for our local charter school and I am having a bear of a time. I would like Koha to generate barcodes as I catalog and then print labels from the label creator. I have set the appropriate option in the admin and the barcode generates in the item record, but I cannot, for the life of me, get it to then print via the label creator. In fact, it doesn't seem to be pulling any information at all. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you, Lichen ps. Please email me directly, for some reason I do not get list updates. -- ~ ad deum qui laetificat juventutem meam ~ L. Dear Koha developers & users, We are using Koha 3.12.11 on Ubuntu platform. For testing purpose I added the subscription for a periodical & received issues up to July 2015, but after Dec 2014 it is continuing with Jan 2016. Koha database is not calculating & displaying the year 2015. Is there any technical issue to solve the problem, Kindly check from your end. Thanks & Regards, Venkata Narayana T Hyderabad. Telangana.

Re: [Koha] Data Migration, TLC to Koha

This is true, but there is far more data than just the bibliographic data. That is always the easiest bit. There is circulation, patrons, fines, acquisitions etc etc. It is a non trivial task, however it is certainly possible to do it yourself given enough time. >Please >see the link below, if you don't mind may i know how much they quote >and your data size/record? I imagine the quotes will have been provided as commercial in confidence. And as such sharing them without permission is not a good look. Collection size is actually pretty immaterial to how long a migration will take. Getting the data out in a good format is the hardest but and whether it's 1000 or 100000 it takes about the same time.
