(You'll notice that I have not even been present in IRC) We had some family trips. Anyways, the updates you've all been waiting for. 1. From Joann - the MOU has been passed around and signed by everyone so far (I believe - Jo please correct me here if I am wrong on that). So that means we are totally ready to start collecting money since THT has established a bank account for the Fund. YAY on that. We do have some code for a paypal button, that we could put on the homepage of koha-community.org immediately - but that really needs to be decided by the community as a whole. Let's vote at the next general meeting about that. 2. I have completed a draft of the ByLaws for the committee. That has been passed around to the committee members of the Fund for review, additions, and comments. We have set a 1 week timeline from today for the completion of that. After that we will release it to the whole community for additional comments, additions, and questions. We should have 1~2 weeks of it being publicly available for review before it is voted on at a general irc meeting. 3. ByWater Solutions, Biblibre, and PTFS-Europe have all pledged to submit money to the International Koha Fund to help seed the fund immediately and once we are ready to roll. That way we have some money to do some good projects for the community. 4. Jonathan Druart has resigned from Biblibre effective May 1st and is currently unemployed. I propose the we use some of the money of the Fund to hire him as a contractor to a) sign-off on bugs b) QA bugs c) clean up bugzilla (for example we have a large number of bugs that are major or critical for some that have no patches even written for them, plus there is also a bunch of other clean up that will help every other developer in the community - that honestly none of us really have time to do). Since he has no allegiance to a support provider - he is exactly the third party person we are looking for. Please discuss and I'm sorry to have missed the last general meeting. Re: [Koha] Installed new server can no longer access KOHA.

Hi Jack, Sounds like you have to change the OpacMaintenance system preference to "Don’t Show", if I'm understanding you correctly. Doing so will get you our of maintenance mode (provided you haven't password protected your OPAC. It should be public by default). Navigate to Koha Administration in the Staff Client and search on "maintenance" in the Global System Preferences search bar to do this. Hope this helps. Best, Craig Butosi, MA, MLIS, B Mus (Hons.) Hi Jack, It sounds like you need to disable the default page. I had to do this on my VPS install, and, after deactivating, the Koha page appeared. BUT, I was able to do this only because Koha was the only this my server was hosting. It's recommended that you not disable the default site if other things are running, like Drupal. Read the following snippet from Installing Koha on Ubuntu (http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages#Disable_Defau…) Disable Default Site If you are running Drupal or any other web service on the same machine, do not disable the default site! If you are unsure, do not disable the default site! When in doubt, always talk with your system administrator, network administrator, or IT Department. The following is intentionally not boxed to prevent problems arising from improperly disabling the default site. If and only if Koha is the only thing on this server, then feel free to run this to disable the default site: sudo a2dissite 000-default Hope this helps. Best, Craig Butosi, MA, MLIS, B Mus (Hons.) KOHA GUI issues
by Christy.Harmon＠l-3com.com 20 May '15

20 May '15

I have installed KOHA 3.12.15 on RED HAT 6.4 Server. I have modified the koha-httd.conf file to get the css and perl scripts to execute as CGI. I can now launch Koha in the browser and navigate. However, the pages appear as text with hyperlinks all over the place and not the nice GUI as documented in the manuals. I am not familiar with web hosting and etc so if someone could please tell me what I am missing or provide a detailed configuration, that would be great. Thank you, Christy Harmon 903-457-4309

Re: [Koha] SOLVED! problems with indexing- v. 3.18.06
by Amy Schuler 19 May '15

19 May '15

Thanks everyone, I figured it out. What happened is that after switching to the DOM indexing, I somehow messed up the permissions on my configuration files. I was suspicious of this because in the index rebuild, I kept seeing something like this: 10:51:59-15/05 zebraidx(13345) [fatal] Cannot read config /etc/koha/sites/library/zebra-biblios-com.cfg [permission denied]. So I changed group permissions and was finally able to restart and rebuild zebra, and now my indexing seems to be working fine. I realize that was probably a foolish mistake on my part, what can I say? Thanks for all of your help! continued problems with indexing- v. 3.18.06
by Amy Schuler 19 May '15

19 May '15

Hello again, sorry to keep bugging this list. I upgraded to v. 3.18.06 a few days ago and was directed to edit koha-conf.xml and zebra-biblios.cfg file. As far as I can tell, I did that correctly and no longer see warnings about that in koha client>about koha>server information. However, I was still getting errors when I tried to restart zebra, and at that point my entire catalog became unavailable. I have double checked those files I edited, and have just tried restarting zebra as root (thank you Robin). Here is what I get: Zebra does not appear to have been running for instance library. Starting Zebra server for library ... but Zebra won't start. I should mention that previously, I tried rebuilding the index, and that did not work either. In fact, I tried rebuilding, then I read I should not rebuild as root (see http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Fix_zebra_permissions) so I rebuilt as user after following those instructions, then tried restarting zebra again as root -- same error above. I am unable to start zebra using koha-start-zebra or koha-restart-zebra. So I am still looking for advice. If anyone still suspects my koha-conf.xml or zebra-biblios.cfg files, I would gladly send you the printout from those or snippets from them. Thanks so much! Amy

Showing shortened item barcodes in OPAC
by Iming Chan 19 May '15

Dear all, We are using 14-digit barcodes on our items, and we like to display them in our OPAC. Consider that they all start with "3009400", I'm wondering whether it is possible to only display the last 7-digits, so we can free up the screen space for other information? Koha and British Library Z39.50
by ari_23＠hotmail.com 19 May '15

19 May '15

I am new to using KOHA and am trying to configure a z39.50 connection for British Library records as my library is using DDC and has many books from the UK. I contacted the BL and was told I need a special z39.50 client to import records as well as an account and that a web browser won't work. So my question is: is anyone importing records from the British Library? And if so what client are you using (mercury and marcedit were suggested)? Any help would be much appreciated. Ariel

Hi Mirko and all, thanks for the help. I followed the instructions on the wiki for switching to DOM indexing and upon index rebuild, I see these errors (below). I still cannot pull any records up in a search of my catalog.
