SIRSI / Koha Differences

Hello! We just installed Koha for testing and I'm having trouble orienting myself. I'm the cataloger for Questia, an online library. After a brief, frustrating flirtation with the Green one, I am really enjoying how neatly Koha fits with my current workflow. We will be using Koha to store MARC records that I catalog. None of it is customer facing. Our Koha will feed some data into the Questia system (subject headings and publisher info), so I need to be able to point the data guys to the right tables. I've been using SIRSI a long time (the clients had to be installed on OS/2 machines). Since then, wherever I went, there it was. After importing some records I fired up Brio to see where all the data lived, expecting to find some variation of the SIRSI catalog/marc0/item/callnum structure. After fleeing Brio I looked at the tables in SchemaSpy. Does the MARC data really live in the marc field of the biblioitem table? I tried to look at this in Brio, but it said I couldn't request a binary datatype. I currently do a lot of data checking in the marc0 table. I was hoping to find an equivalent table in Koha. Can anyone help a recovering SIRSI user? I need to wrap my head around how the MARC data is stored. Thanks, Lezlie

There is some discussion on bug 4319, but putting a patch on a new bug report might be a little cleaner. Koha 3.18.11 Released

The Koha release team is pleased to announce the release of Koha 3.18.11. This is a maintenance release, but does contain one security fix. All users are recommended to upgrade. You can read the full release notes at http://koha-community.org/koha-3-18-11-released/ As usual, you can download the tarball from http://koha-community.org/downloads or wait for the debian packages, which should be forthcoming in the next day or two. OPAC - "Log in to your account" link broken?

Hi all, Running Koha 3.20.04 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x64 (VPS) Library: http://www.library.craigbutosi.ca Problem: Clicking "Log in to your account" link ( i.e., /cgi-bin/koha/opac-user.pl) on the OPAC homepage (top-left) seems broken; no activity after clicking, no page loading after clicking. Some settings of relevance: a. Opacuserlogin preference is set to allow (obviously). b. Browser: Firefox and Chrome settings are set to allow popups, Javascript, etc. c. Opacuserjs includes a JS script to hide default login window in opacnavright (tested link after removing this script, no change) It doesn't look like a browser issue from what I can see (though it might be). Interestingly, if I navigate to Lists --> Log in to create your own lists, I get to the /cgi-bin/koha/opac-main.pl page and can login no problem. It's just the popup window on the homepage that's not displaying. It almost seems to me like a Javascript or browser issue, but I have no idea. Using Koha to manage equipment loans

We have several laptops, cameras and recording equipment that various members of staff use, take off site, etc. The current method of keeping track of them is inadequate, and I proposed that we use Koha for checking them in and out, placing holds, tracking use, etc; all functions Koha can do. We don't want the equipment to appear in the public catalogue, and I don't want non-library staff poking around in the nether regions of the library catalogue. But I also don't want the library staff to be burdened with keeping track of equipment that belongs to and is generally used by another department. I'd like to hear how other libraries have handled this. I am considering setting up another branch, just for equipment. Would it be easy to limit access to one branch but keep the main collection open for all? Or would I have to set up a completely different Koha installation? Label export failed to load PDF document

I'm using 3.20.03.000. When I try to export barcode labels using the label creator, instead of exporting a pdf is gives me an error saying "Failed to Load PDF Document". I've never had this issue before and have been using the label creator for a year. It's only a problem for barcodes, not spine labels. Also only when exporting a pdf, not for xml or csv. We create a batch using barcodes copied from a excel spreadsheet. (We've also copied them out of word-- the formatting doesn't make a difference.) This particular batch has 284 barcodes. We have tried it with fewer-- it was ok with 2 and 10, but not with 9 or any number higher than 10. Any ideas of what it might be or other things that we could try would be appreciated. Hi Natalee: I think that Shibboleth authentication has been available in Koha since version 3.18. Martin Renvoize from PTFS-Europe did the majority of the work there I believe, so I'm sure he'd know of some libraries using Shibboleth. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Shibboleth_Configuration Regarding Athens, I don't think Koha officially supports Athens/OpenAthens authentication. Prosentient Systems has implemented it locally, but I don't think the patches are suitable for upstreaming at this time. It was implemented in a way that might not make sense for other libraries and in conjunction with other local enhancements which also don't necessarily make sense for all Koha users. Koha with 3M SelfCheck systems
