245 subfield h not staying hidden
by Elaine Bradtke 01 Nov '16

01 Nov '16

I have hidden fields before, but for some reason 245 $h will not be hidden. Even when I set that subfield to "ignore", it still shows up in the staff interface and the OPAC. However, when I look at the MARC view, it doesn't appear. Just checked and setting other subfields in other fields to "ignore" seems to work as expected. This applies to 3.22 and 16.05 (MARC 21) Has anyone else seen this? If so, I'll file a bug. -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 (This number is for the English Folk Dance and Song Society in London, England. Thai Language Support
by Alex Shepherd 30 Oct '16

Hi, I’m in the process of transforming and importing bibliographic records from a UNICODE eLM system into Koha. The eLM system had a mixture of English and Thai language titles and maybe a few other non english UNICODE titles as well. I’m making pretty good progress with the import in that I can search for books by key words or barcode etc and it is finding things but I’m not sure about the searching for Thai language books as I don’t know or speak Thai. I see references to modifying the zebra search index configuration here: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/ICU_chains_configuration https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/ICU_Chains_Library#Thai but when I try to follow these examples I get an error: sudo koha-rebuild-zebra -f bbs Warning: You passed -x which is already the default and is now deprecated 07:32:41-30/10 zebraidx(27438) [warn] default.idx:14: Could not load icuchain config 'words-icu.xml' 07:32:41-30/10 zebraidx(27438) [warn] default.idx:23: Could not load icuchain config 'words-icu.xml' 07:32:41-30/10 zebraidx(27438) [fatal] zebra_begin_trans: cannot open register I’ve doubled check the file names in default.idx and they look ok to me. I wonder if anyone else has any experience with tuning the search indexes for the Thai language that may be able to help TIA Regards Alex Shepherd p: +64-7-829 4441 m: +64-21-777764 e: kiwi64ajs(a)gmail.com

KohaCon17 Dates
by Bob Birchall 30 Oct '16

30 Oct '16

Hi, I'm reaching out to the organizers of KohaCon17 about the dates of the conference. I'd urge you to set the dates as soon as possible. The earlier air travel can be booked, the better will be the fares available. You've indicated that June is the likely month. There is a conference in Canberra that we will be attending, from 23-25 June 2017. If your dates could avoid those days and a couple either side, that will really help us. I'm sure others around the world will have their preferences. I wanted to get in early. :) Congratulations on winning the opportunity to host KohaCon and best wishes for your preparations. Thanks and regards, Bob Birchall Calyx

HOLDPLACED notice - Clarification about its function
by Craig Butosi 29 Oct '16

29 Oct '16

Hi all, Koha 16.05.03 on Ubuntu 14.04 Can someone clarify the function or intent of the HOLDPLACED notice? Is it strictly for library staff, to inform them via email that one of their patrons has placed an item hold from the OPAC? Or, is it meant to inform a patron that a hold has been placed on one of their current loans? I've checked the 16.05 manual about this, but want additional confirmation from the all-powerful collective wisdom :) Many thanks, Craig Butosi, MA, MLIS, B Mus (Hons.)
