Are 700s searchable?
by Ellen Kaye 02 Mar '17

02 Mar '17

Hello, I have a situation in which the co-author of a book is an alum, and we'd like for patrons to be able to locate the book using his name. Because he is the second author, he is in the 700 field, with the first author in the 100. When I search with the last name of the first author and the book title, it comes up. When I search with the last name of the co-author and the book title, it doesn't. Is this something that I can change, or is it a Koha issue? I appreciate any guidance - thanks! Koha-US Conference CFP
by Christopher Davis 02 Mar '17

02 Mar '17

Dear Koha Users, Koha-US is calling for proposals for conference talks/presentations, round table discussions, poster sessions, etc. for its 2017 annual conference held on August 9-12 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, USA. The theme for this year's conference is "Koha: You Can Do It" and is in the enabling attitude of Rosie the Riveter (see attached poster). We are seeking proposals for diverse audiences, from new Koha users, to the most advanced Koha software developers. Please check out the proposal submission form found at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfoq_J7IHoTP-KhdGp3I-FYbi0L44BWMjT… for more details. If you are not sure what you could share at this conference, think about the things you wish someone would have told you about when you were struggling or maybe think of a lesson you "learned the hard way." Maybe you could share your experiences integrating Koha into a library program. The Koha community loves to share and presenting at the conference is a great way to do just that. Thank you, Christopher Davis Secretary, Koha-US cgdavis(a)uintah.utah.gov koha poster #6.png <https://drive.google.com/a/uintah.utah.gov/file/d/0B3CXDpFsfriXS2xZRVAwcUFN…>

Re: [Koha] SQL report for holds waiting for pickup longer than the ReservesMaxPickupDelay number of days
by Tobin, Jessica L 02 Mar '17

02 Mar '17

Hi Vanda, We run this report daily to keep up with holds that are languishing on the pick-up shelves for too long: SELECT biblio.title AS 'title', p.surname, p.firstname AS 'first name', p.email, p.cardnumber AS 'patron barcode', h.waitingdate AS 'hold available date', i.barcode AS 'item barcode' FROM reserves h LEFT JOIN borrowers p USING (borrowernumber) LEFT JOIN items i ON (h.biblionumber=i.biblionumber) LEFT JOIN biblio ON (i.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) WHERE date (h.waitingdate) = DATE_SUB(CURRENT_DATE(),INTERVAL 7 DAY) OR date (h.waitingdate) = DATE_SUB(CURRENT_DATE(),INTERVAL 14 DAY) ORDER BY h.waitingdate It shows the date that the hold became available. Also, it gives us a heads-up on holds that have been available for either 7 or 14 days, but you could remove the OR statement to just show 7 day-old holds. Hope this helps! :) Jess Jessica L. Can anyone please help me with the SQL Report? It would be great if the report showed the number of days or the hold expiration date. Many thanks, Vanda

How big is your database, and how much memory was available? An hour and three quarters seems inordinately long, although a lack of multi-core threading might be a cause. Did this spill over into swap? Ref. point for us is that any MySql op that lasts for more than a couple of seconds (with 16 Gigs RAM on reasonably fast 8-core systems) is suspect as being badly coded. Mint, per se, shouldn't be a stumbling point -- it's only a desktop, and should have minimal impact on the underlying Debian/Ubuntu system.
