DBMS auto increment issue - BUG19016

Hi all, i have got the BUG19016 (https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=19016) problem in my production environment. Plack plus shibboleth

Hey, all! tl;dr: When running koha under plack and using shibboleth authentication, what is the currently-recommended way to communicate auth details from mod_shib to koha? Long version: I'm in the process of converting our Koha installation from running under vanilla CGI to using plack/starman. This was simple enough from the perspsctive of straight-up library functionality, but we're using shibboleth to authenticate against the campus IDP, and that has raised a few issues. We've already found https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=17776 in the bug tracker and I have successfully adapted the patch tou our customized C4::Auth/C4::Auth_with_shibboleth and logged in via shibboleth, but (as noted in the bug tracker discussion) this uses HTTP headers to communicate the authentication details to the back-end application. In order to avoid possible vulnerabilities resulting from the use of HTTP headers, I went to the shibboleth documentation at https://wiki.shibboleth.net/confluence/display/SHIB2/NativeSPSpoofChecking [1] and, in the section for Apache, found the assertion that: "Under no circumstances should you rely on the request header option other than as a temporary measure while adjusting applications to use the environment option. There are no known scenarios in which environment variables can't be used" Is there a way to use environment variables in a plack+shibboleth installation? The docs assert that it should be possible (as there are "no known scenarios" where it isn't), but that would imply that one process (apache) is able to modify the environment of another, already- running, independent non-child process (starman) running under a different uid/gid, which should not generally be possible - and, even if it is possible, it would require apache to run as root, which would create major security risks of its own. The bug tracker discussion includes a brief mention of possibly using a plack middleware to change the worker process envoronment, but that seems like it would just push the issue back a level from "how do I talk to starman without using http headers" to "how do I talk to the middleware without using http headers" without actually solving the core issue. Is it actually possible to use environment variables in this scenario? If not, what's the best practice to secure it against http header spoofing? [1] The SHIB2 documentation states that it's no longer supported, but we're using an sp2 shibd and, in any case, the same text appears verbatim on the equivalent SP3 page. -- Dave Sherohman

Effect of changing OPACFallBack Preference

Dear All, I am using Koha 17.11 version and have been using the Option "*Prog*" on *OPACFallBack Preference* in the System Preferences. However, I learnt about the "*bootstrap*" option and will like to change as its seems more responsive. Please, I like to know if all customizations I made on the "prog" option will be retained (*such as customization on the opacheader, opacmainuserblock, opacnav, opacbutton, opacright etc*), or I have to start customizing all over again. Searching for fields with no data

I would like to search and find records without data in a specific field. An example: Go to advanced search in the OPAC and opt for More options. Search with some word in the "Title" field and in the field "Conference name" I would like to find those records that has no data in that field. Koha Upgrade

Dear All, I am running koha17.05.04 on Lubuntu i386. WHen I try to upgrade koha, I am getting the following error. Unable to Check-In Error

Thanks for the welcome! Thanks to everyone who offered me feedback, but especially to BWS Johnson for the awesomely thorough welcome and response. I guess the ultimate answer is that I am going to have to get more comfortable with marc :(. The good news is that my 12 year old helper has started helping with inventorying the collection and doesn't seem too phased by the default Fast Add Framework. I will definitely be reading up more and hopefully just getting comfortable with the MARC in general and with cataloging in general. My degree is in English lit, but my day job is as a software developer, so I hope I can eventually contribute back to the community in meaningful ways. Looking for an even more simplified entry

Hi to the list, My name is Robert Flach, and I'm the new librarian for a small church library that was on a card-catalogue system and then managed by several people who didn't keep up with said catalog. I've gotten koha installed (ubuntu package version), and mostly configured. I've purchased a barcode scanner and receipt printer and have them working as well. I would seem to be on my way. So my first project is to do a complete inventory, and that starts with transferring all records into the electronic system from the card catalog and getting them barcoded. The big challenge I have is with cataloging non-traditional books. Basically, I can handle adding records when I can find a MARC Record that I can download through Z39.50/SRU, but the church library has a very large contingent of materials that don't have isbn's and don't exist in any Z39.50 db. Lot's of pamphlets and small self-published books and the like. I was looking for a solution that would give me a super simplified entry form for these types of materials that would match the info that I have available in the card catalogue (title, author, subject, dewey #, section, barcode), and which would be halfway readable and usable by my children helpers who are helping me inventory and catalog everything. I could live with a few extra fields, but even the most simplified MARC-looking record interface is daunting for them (and for me for that matter, though I can get by and have been reading about marc). I saw a post on the mailing list from some time ago where someone had provided an SQL dump of their super simplified BRF Framework that seemed to be just what I would want, but it was for koha v3.2 or so, and I have v18.05. I did a test import after backing up, and it definitely wouldn't import. So, with all that as background, my question is: Is there a place where these types of things--bits and pieces that work for particular purposes that can be imported easily--are shared regularly? If not, does anyone have something similar to that dump but for v18.05 that you are already using with your non-marc librarians? Something that leaves off all the marc information (even if they fields are still being stored behind the scenes to a marc21 format record of course, and just let's them enter the information that they understand with labels that they understand?
