OK threw together a spare 'machine from hell' from refuse in the garage and back porch. Mitel loading as we type. will need the latest bug fixes I suppose Monday will let it rip! Ed!

New Koha website

Kia Ora, I've just sent the new Koha website live (http://www.koha.org) and now would love if you all could give it the once over. I'm pretty sure that there are enough typos and grammatical errors for everyone to find one :-) Please let me know if there is anything obviously "missing" or if things aren't called what you'd expect, aren't located where you expect etc. I've just had one of those head slapping moments - we need a search, anything else? importing MARC records

Hi all. I have Koha working on FreeBSD, mostly. Thanks for all your work. One thing that I don't have working is the ability to import MARC records using the web front end. I want to be able to: grab a book in our library (we have a few thousand). Enter the ISBN and have the record populated from the library of congress, or some other wais server. Finally entering any notes by hand. All of my test entries are still in queue. My only thoughts: I have ipfw as a statefull firewall. If there is an oddball port being used this might be a problem. But there is no evidence that I see in the logs. (my logging is pretty light so some things fail quietly) The whole admin directory has taken extra steps to install, and still is mostly broken. so this may be part of it. Thanks Micheas

Hi all, Here is a list in one place of everything I know that needs installed to use Koha on FreeBSD. Corrections and comments are appreciated. Micheas -------------------------------------------------------------------- # From ports(cd to the directory then "make install"): $PORTSDIR/net/yaz $PORTSDIR/www/apache13 # other versions of apache should # work, however I have not tested them. Please # report any successes. Especially with regards to # apache2 $PORTSDIR/lang/perl5 # mod_perl is NOT advised if you use Net::Z3950 # due to bugs in the Net::Z3050 module. $PORTSDIR/devel/cdk # if you plan on using telnet # terminals -- see note below. # From CPAN ("perl -MCPAN -e shell") install: Date::Manip DBI Set::Scalar DBD::mysql # or whatever database system you use CDK # if you want to support telnet. --see note below AuthenDBI # if you want to use Database based # authentication -- Untested Net::Z3950 # needed for remote MARC record lookup. Telnet terminals -- HERE BE DRAGONS -- these maybe problematic under FreeBSD. There is a movement to remove telnetd form the base distribution. So any problem will probably get worse not better. :-( The reason for this is that it is viewed as extremely insecure protocol that passes passwords in "plain text". Think twice and consider porting to ssh if you have any security concerns. The port could be pretty straight forward. The shell scripts for starting Z3950 queue do not work on FreeBSD. I will post them when I get them working.

Koha install problem summary, final I hope

Below is a summary list of the problems I am experiencing with my new fresh install of Koha 1.2.1 on my new server running RH 7.1 Each problem is started with "***" subtopics of that problem start with "###" I will be using my koha system to do two things: 1-Track all of the science resources on my charter K-12 school campus. Teachers will be able to search for items using keywords and then check them out to themselves for use in their classrooms. I would like to be able for them to know who has an item check out so they can go get it directly from that person. 2-Bring up our new library for the whole school on koha, using the same server. I need to be "on-the-air" by July 5 as we move all our inventory into our new building and receive new big shipments the week of July 8. The good news is that I have all of the networking stuff worked out and have koha (lib) and opac (lookup) running across my home network. Now if I can just get all of this volunteer work done for the school without burning down my house, from all of the computers in my home office, and starting the next wildfire in Colorado... Pete Dubler for Ridgeview Classical Schools Fort Collins, Colorado *** Acquisitions: I still can't get the "simple" acquisitions version to load. But, I can force myself into it by using a link like: http://lib/cgi-bin/koha/acqui.simple/addbooks.pl (lib is the name of this virtual server underwhich koha is running). I have tried using mysql with the command: update systempreferences set value='simple' where variable='acquisitions'; quit; with no success. (stopped mysqld, restarted httpd, started mysqld, flushed netscape caches). I have webmin and first set the systempreferences table to be modifiable in everyway by root. Advice? *** Addbooks: When I go to add a book (using the armstrong method outlined above), I understand that there are three screens that one has to complete . I complete the first 'Section One: Copyright Information' and press 'add new bibliography', then it brings up the second 'Section Two: Publication Information for Test Book by Tommy Tester', which I complete and press 'add new bibliography'. It then returns me to a blank first screen, 'Section One: Copyright Information'. What's with that? *** Circulation: Comes up without the "Choose a branch" and "Choose a printer" pulldowns. So per earlier advice, I tried to add a branch and printer to my database. Below is what happened. ### Parameters:Library Branches: I cannot add a new branch successfully. When I try by filling out the form and pressing "OK", I just get a blank page. I do not know what goes in the "Issuing" field, so I have once left it blank and another time just put 'ok' in it. Advice? Things I know: * Koha is my database and according to mysqlshow and webadmin, it is there. * mysqld is running. * (I also know other things, in case you were wondering, but they are not relevant to this situation ;^) ### Parameters: Printers: I was able to add a printer named "LaserJet" on the lpt queue of the type local. *** Adding Members: I am unable to add members because I do not know the valid range for library card numbers. Anyone able to provide me a pointer here? (eg man page to refer to) *** Adding Members: How hard would it be to modify this screen to reduce the number of fields since I really only need names and card numbers? This would mean telling the database that the other 'required fields' are not required.

Whether the records entered using koha-1.1.1 can be used with koha-1.2 ? Or I have to enter those records again ? Md. Aftabuddin
