Larry, The MARC standard does not limit the 001 field to digits. If Koha is doing so it should be changed. The letters should be acceptable. I looked at the records using Showmarc )download for free at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/technology/TLC/catalog.html ) and they look fine. The MARC Perl module could help if you need to change the control numbners for other reasons. However, I don't think changeing to suit the software is the way yo go.
