Hi everybody, As we get further along in evaluating Koha and closer to an actual switch, we're starting to address thorny issues like database transfers. This brings up a couple of issues you all might be able to help us with. First, is there a good write-up of the database structure, with descriptions of all the fields? Some stuff is self-explanatory, like 'surname' and 'firstname' in the borrowers table, but others are more obscure. Second, is there any library out there that's made the switch from another library automation system, doing a full database transfer in the process? Troubleshooting Apache Server

Good morning. I have been trying to get version 1.2.1 of Koha up and working, but I'm having trouble getting the Apache server to run successfully. In particular, I keep getting a critical "error (13) permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to port 198" when I attempt to follow a borrower card number link from the URL http://198.31.79.73:8081/cgi-bin/koha/member.pl after performing a member search or when I go to look at the details of an item record. Would someone with expertise in this area be able to join me on the #koha-support channel sometime today or tomorrow to help me get to the bottom of this problem? I'm on Pacific Coast Standard time. 19 July, 2002 To the Koha community; Bon Dia, Well, I've heard a little bit of feedback on modules, and it seems that most of you are leaning toward the idea of using more existing Perl modules and needing fewer Koha specific functions. If you still want to toss in your thoughts, please do -- we need to come to closure on this pretty soon though, so don't delay. I'd still like to hear from people who are using Koha. If you've got a success story (or non-success story), please send it to me (<kaitiaki(a)koha.org>). I'd like to be able to use some of your stories to help publicize Koha. (And if you've had problems, perhaps we can find a way to fix them.) To help get a bit more data about Koha users (how many of you are there, where are you located, etc). We're starting to put together a survey. It will be hosted on the web, and I'll be sure to announce it here. Documentation The librarian specific manual has been written (thanks to Rosalie and her band of merry librarians). Nick has given it a first review, and it is now in the hands of another reviewer (Brig McCoy, who's a new contributor). With this, the manual is basically complete. It's not done though. Look for more information to be included as we go along. If you think we've missed something in our efforts so far, please lend a hand. Translations The French translations are continuing apace. The manual has gone through a first draft and is being reviewed. The French Koha website is nearing completion, and the 'From the Kaitiaki' notes are being translated regularly. A second librarian has contacted me about a Spanish translation. Cristian and Enrique have been meeting together and have volunteered to start translating Koha and providing support to Latin American (especially Chilean) libraries interested in using Koha. Let's wish them well. Community One of the most exciting things happening in the world of Koha is the increasing amount of visibility we're getting. I've recently had email from New Zealand and New Caladonea about articles being written about Koha. I've heard from people interested in seeing Koha translated into Arabic. We've also seen some evidence that Koha is now in use on five continents. We're also starting to get some notice outside the library world, most recently we were mentioned in the Linux Weekly News (in their 'Development Section'). Wow! The future is looking bright. Hi, I've managed to import some Records from the Library of congress, but as most of our books are in german I wanted to connect to a german z39.50 server. I tried: Server Port Database User Password Supported-format ubsun01.biblio.etc.tu-bs.de 2020 opac opac opac USMARC, UNIMARC, MAB2,SUTRS ubsun01.biblio.etc.tu-bs.de2020 bac opac opac USMARC, MAB2, SUTRS 134.99.136.10 2020 opac opac opac USMARC, UNIMARC, SUTRS, MAB2 leia.bth.rwth-aachen.de 2020 gkneu opac opac USMARC Unfortunately I got no results (not even a "no records returned" message"). I can't tell you what the problem is. The Z39.50 part of Koha is definitely new and needs more experience, debugging, and documentation. For the solution, in my opinion this is a developer-level question. The best thing to do is probably to see if these Z39.50 sources work with another tool, such as yaz-client. I had installed 1.2.1 fresh then, and was getting an error. When I recently came back to continue testing and evaluating (and debugging), I thought installing 1.2.2RC3 might fix my problem, so I installed all the .pl files from 1.2.1RC3, and it didn't seem to help. Here's my issue... I installed Koha, and the sample data. When I go to the OPAC screen a search on "book", I get a whole bunch of "HASH(0x840da9c)" statements (with different values). Am I doing something incorrect? Concernimg Class, Location, Marc and more

Hello all, 1. I found out that it is only the dewey classification that shows up in the OPAC search result. However i need the LCCN to appear as Library of Congress Catalogue Number is used in the library i installed koha for and not dewey. How do i fix this ? 2. How do i indicate shelf location. I could not see anywhere i could do this using acqui simple. This library has several big rooms and we would like to indicate the shelf and room code in the OPAC search results. by the way i am using 1.2.1 3. I want to import data into koha from tinlib. i am not sure it can export in Marc but i know it can export in comma delimited text. Any idea ? how reliable is the marc import tool? 4. i am trying to install the z.3950 in koha but got lot of errors while installing yaz. Do i need any other module? I am using redhat 7.1.
