Installation questions from another Linux/Koha newbie

In preparation for our move to Koha, I've got a brand new installation of RedHat 7.3 on my desktop. I installed 1.3.0 using the install-script, and got Apache set up fine. Something's not working right, though--several of the pages come up 'Internal Server Error' (book and member searches, for instance). What's the best way to diagnose problems like this? Did I skip some configuration somewhere along the way? I work with Mandrake, and never had big problems installing it (mostly mouse clics !) on recent PC (less than 2 years). When installing mandrake, you can (must for koha) add perl and mysql packages, which is more long than hard if you don't know where to search. You should do a "expert" installation, and choose packages individually. Still on mandrake, you can now resize windows partitions, thus installing linux and keeping perl on your home machine. Koha installation

Hi. This question may not be appropriate for this forum, let me know. I am involved with a small (approx 2000 volume) specialist library run by volunteers, in Singapore. We are considering a move to Koha - we have only one computer and so are looking at using the system only as a catalogue. To determine if this is feasible, I need to get some idea of how long it is likely to take to install Koha and all other necessary software. Until I know this, it is difficult for me to determine if we will need to employ someone to do this for us, or use a volunteer, or find another solution. Koha Newby Questions

Hello, I am looking at using Koha for the Vienna Christian School Library here in Vienna, Austria. Can anyone supply information on using bar code readers with Koha? I am interested in recommendations of particular brands and/or models of readers, how to configure them to interface with Koha, etc. Our library workstations are running Windows 2000; our server is running Red Hat 7.2. Hi, First I have to thank you for Koha. The instalation went *smoothly* as soon as I remembered there is an installer script, it seems to work fine, except a few links, I read in a recent newsletter that it's going to comply with MARC ... just great. Question: Is there a "map" of Koha? I mean something to tell what does this module or that script, etc. ... ? Koha is rather big and I got lost in it. If the librarians of my Institute decide to use Koha, I'll manage to get to understand it, but I would find a "map" usefull. Our library is using ... well, I don't know how is it called in English ... decimal system, not Dewey, and I guess I'll have to modify Koha a little ... AFAIK we tested it without javascript turned on and it was fine, so perhaps something has snuck un recently. Nope that's on purpose. We didn't consider it a huge imposition to require libraries to allow javascript from what would be an internal server. The coding for the internally oriented module is more tailored to the actual libraries who are running the code, the type of browsers and "policies" they operate under. If you have a library that requires something different, then they might like to put together some templates more to their own liking and make them available to people who have similar requirements. If you're a large library (over 100,000 items or more than 25,000 patrons -- is there another measure I should include), and you're using or considering Koha for your ILS, I'd like to hear about it. Now that larger libraries are starting to look at Koha, I'd like to have a list of similar organizations that I can return to. z3950-daemon-launch.sh

Well - we now have all our users in Koha! We are now beginning to input the books. All seems well, except for one thing. Each time the librarian shuts the machine down and up, I must redo the z3950-daemon-launch.sh. I know that the solution is to run the script from rc.local. I have made a link from the koha directory to usr/bin, and the script works fine from the command line as root. It just doesn't work from rc.local. I have tried placing the command at the beginning of rc.local and at the end. No luck. I have tried placing a ./ before it, and a sh before it. No change. Still it works great from the command line as root. Any clues as to where I am going wrong? Thanks! Robert Maynord
