Last week my server finally went back, poors fan can cause very big damage... ;((( I've reinstalled koha (1.2.2) and i've noted the bug i've found in 1.2.1, simple acquisition doesn't work because in tarball the schema (koha.mysql) was of 1.2.0, so a plain fresh install doesn't work without updating the database. (see: http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2002/000840.html and thread) The problem are... hem... i don't remember how i've solved this, i've tried to grep into folder but with no clue... Another one: i'm tring to build a debian package of koha. It will be my first debian package, so be patient and give some hint. ;) -- dott. All, One again, I appeal to the Koha community to let me know what libraries are actually using this system in their libraries. I maintain the lib-web-cats database which among other things, tracks the automation systems used in libraries worldwide. As I write about the field of library automation, it is hard to say that Open Source is having a growing impact on libraries unless I can document that a significant number of libraries are adopting such systems. two questions (dewey and z3950)

Hi, I've got a couple of questions about my recent Koha install. 1. z3950 searches are not working for me. I get the following errors in my /var/log/koha files. Any ideas? Event: '?? Connection.pm:138' died and then $Event::DIED died with: Can't call method "attributes" without a package or object referenc\ e at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i386-linux/Event.pm line 88, <KC> line 20. at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i386-linux/Net/Z3950/Manager.pm line 220 Event: '?? Connection.pm:138' died and then $Event::DIED died with: Can't call method "attributes" without a package or object referenc\ e at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i386-linux/Event.pm line 88, <KC> line 20. 2. I imported about 8000 books from our old card catalog software. Searches seem to work fine, but the whole ITEM_TYPE:CLASS:LOCATION:DATE_DUE:LAST_SEEN:BARCODE section is empty. I also don't get the dewey decimal numbers for the books. I have verified that the dewey numbers exist in the database. I can understand why the item type wouldn't be there because that isn't information that was imported, but why don't the dewey numbers show up?? So in a fit of enthusiasm I whipped up some designs, and picked some products and we're in business. Ben Ostrowsky forwarded this to me, I think it would be great if we could get as many koha responses to Pamela as possible. importing MARC records

Hello, I am in the process of prototyping Koha for our school. I have Koha up and running and am attempting to import some records from our OLD Winnebago card catalog. Winnebago exports in a MicroLIF format which is supposed to be the same as USMARC. If I attempt to import the records from a file, it appears to upload the file, and the set name appears on the import page, but when I click on the name to "select a set of MARC records" I get to a page that says "select a record to import from gould_library" but there are no records listed. I pasted a small piece of the MicroLIF/USMARC file below. BE CAREFUL : THIS IS AN ALPHA VERSION OF KOHA. DON'T USE IT ON PRODUCTION, ONLY FOR TESTING PURPOSES. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED ! Look for a 1.2.x serie if you want a stable version ! WHAT'S NEW With this version, comes the 1st part of the visible MARC stuff : * in the parameter screen of koha : you now have 2 links to manage MARC structure. This version is released with MARC21 english structure. French UNIMARC will come soon in CVS. Koha fields must be "mapped" to MARC fields in order to insure proper conversion of the DB. - The first tool is used to define MARC fields and subfield, the corresponding "tab" where the field is shown and the koha field mapping. - The second tools helps mapping, by presenting koha fields and their corresopnding MARC tag/subfield * in search of a biblio : if acquisitions=simple in systempref table, the biblios are shown in MARC format. INSTALLATION : installer.pl works fine for a fresh installation. Upgrading should work fine too. be sure to launch updater, fill_usmarc and updatedb2marc scripts. updatedb2marc migrates 30 biblios/seconds, so be patient if you plan to migrate a big DB ! KNOWN BUGS : * Acquisition system for "systempref.acquisition = simple" is still broken. will be corrected in 1.3.2. * Tabs are named 0xx to 9xx, but this is a "bug" : tabs should be named "0" to "9", as any MARC tag may appear in any tab, as defined in MARC tag structure parameter table. We currently have an inhouse catalogue built on Filemaker software, but are interested in commercially available packages that would be compatible with our system. If you have any experience of such software, it would be useful to know the name of the software, the type of library it is in, whether you would recommend the software (giving pros and cons), what support is available from the software developers, and other relevant info.
