z3950 stalls after one search

Hi. I recently install koha and it is mostly working. When I do a Z39.50 search however, it will process the first item in the queue, but stall after that with other processes marked as pending. If I send a kill -HUP to z3950processqueue.pid it starts working on the next one, but this is probably not the desired behavior. If it makes a difference my RunAsUser is not "apache". Other than that I think I followed all the instructions, and it is sort of working. Any help would be most appreciated. I should have included this. I get the error message: Z39.50 search daemon error: no process signalled. There is a launcher for the Z39.50 client daemon in your intranet installation directory under ./scripts/z3950daemon/z3950-daemon-launch.sh. This script should be run as root, and it will start up the program running with the privileges of your apache user. Ideally, this script should be started from a system init directory so that is running after the machine starts up. even though the process is shown in the process list. Thanks. Kevin >Hi. Dear Paul et al., We are one of the libraries in the U.S. that are keenly interested in the development of Koha versions 1.3.x and 1.4 as a replacement for our current automation system, and we are working closely with Ron Wickersham in Santa Rosa, CA on this. But one of the features our current system has that is very important is the ability to have "see" references and "see also" references in the catalog that result from subject and name authority work done by our cataloguers and by the Library of Congress. Problems with Z39.50 - unix file permissions?

Dear (more knowledgeable than me) Ladies and Gentlemen, We have recently begun implementation of Koha 1.2.2 on a PC running RedHat 7.2 for the International Center at the University of Virginia. The server is iclibrary.lib.virginia.edu with the intranet interface being at iclibrary.lib.virginia.edu:8080. I have been unable to get the Z39.50 module to function. Any insight that you could offer on this would be greatly appreciated! Here is a description of the problem: I have downloaded and installed the latest Yaz rpm for the i386 architecture. When I attempt to run /usr/local/koha-1.2.2/scripts/z3950daemon/z3950-daemon-launch.sh as root, I get the message: -sh: /usr/local/koha-1.2.2/scripts/z3950daemon/z3950-daemon-shell.sh: Permission denied I have, through commenting out various lines, determine that it is this line in z3950-deamon-launch.sh, near the end, where the problem occurs: su -s /bin/sh -c $KohaZ3950Shell - $RunAsUser & Why, I cannot determine. RunAsUser=apache is set earlier in the script, and using the line echo $KohaZ3950Shell $RunAsUser in place of the above su command returns /usr/local/koha-1.2.2/scripts/z3950daemon/z3950-daemon-shell.sh apache as one might expect. Steve, There is a separate database holding MARC authority records. These records can control all access points, authors, titles and subjects. Most of the time they have SEE and SEE ALSO references. At times they have longer explanations. They also may contain notes to the cataloger. For example, a authority record for a series might contain a note telling the cataloger if they are each classed by subject or if they are collected and classed as a group. They are structured very much like MARC bibliographic records. http://www.loc.gov/marc/authority/ecadhome.html In the more costly systems the authority records are linked to the bibliographic record, so that a change in the authority file automatically changes instances in the bibliographic file. I'm guessing that it ties one subject heading to one or more other subject headings. A "SEE" reference would tell the user to look at the reference instead of this heading (implying that this heading shows nothing?), and a "SEE ALSO" would tell the user to look at the reference in addition to this heading. What else are these "SEE" and "SEE ALSO" references used for, besides subject headings? Are they stored in a MARC record somewhere, and, if so, where? System preferences: template

I should remember this, because Chris probably told me just yesterday: When you change the default template via the system preferences interface in the intranet, how does it remember your choice? Does it set a cookie? Or is it some kind of session variable (which I know from ColdFusion and PHP)? I ask because I'm trying to mess with the templates: I copied the /usr/local/koha/opac/htdocs/default folder, renamed it to 'npl,' and made some changes. But when I go into system preferences and specify 'npl' as the template, I don't see the changes. -- Owen

How to reset the database?

Hi, We have just installed Koha on a PC in my school's library. Now we're ready to start using it, but before we start inputting the collection, we need to delete the sample data from the database. I couldn't find anything on the koha site describing how to do this, so I'm asking here. 1.2.3RC21

I think that 1.2.3RC21 is getting pretty close to release ready. If anybody can spare some time to install this release candidate and let me know of any bugs they find, it would sure help get it out the door faster. I'm also uploading a new kohacd image based on 1.2.3RC21. It should be available within the next 20 minutes or so... Steve Tonnesen

Site architecture

I'm trying to figure out in practical terms how Koha is going to integrate into our existing library web site. For us the online search is just one part of the site. Have others simply placed the rest of their site in the koha/opac/htdocs/ folder, changing Koha's index.html to search.html or something like that?
