Has anyone ever imported files into koha from MEDLARS or RIS format? Testers Needed

Testers are needed for Koha. Your server or mine. No technical experience is necessary. We are looking for both Acceptance Testers - using the software in the role of librarians and patrons and quoting from Pat Eyler "On the development side, we also need experienced testers to help write code level functional and unit tests for a 'regression test suite'. The plan is that this suite is run at least daily against the Koha code base to ensure that we're not introducing new bugs, or re-opening old ones while we make changes and additions to Koha." How to set up a new staff member - including how to access the intranet

Hi - this is obviously causing a few headaches for people - so I thought I'd send this to the whole list :-) BACKGROUND To access the Intranet (librarian view) you need a username and password. The first person needs the MYSQL username and password, and then they can make new users (staff). Unfortunatly, the staff authentication module basically came in on the back of the general members (OPAC) authentication module, so to be blunt, it's a bit confusing, definitly not intuative, and hopefully might be improved for the next release. OK HERE WE GO To make another "Librarian". You will need to be logged in with your superuser password - not just the first time, but every time. You add new librarians through the "add member" process. From Koha's point of View, a librarian is just a member with some different privliges, but we don't make it clear enough that you add a staff person the same way. Start from the member search page that looks like http://hlt.katipo.co.nz/members/ Type the name of your staff member in the search box (even though they may not be there yet). You should get a page like http://hlt.katipo.co.nz/cgi-bin/koha/member.pl You should see the option to add a new member. Add a new adult member. You should be able to change them to being a "worker" And I think (although am not sure) that you can add their username and password there. Submit that form Apparently on your "add a new member" screen, you won't get the option to give them access to the intranet. To do that, you submit that form. special QA IRC meeting

Ingrid Lacis, the new QA/Testing manager, and I would like to invite everyone with an interest in the QA and testing process to attend a special QA/Testing IRC meeting. We would like to discuss the current user-interface usability of Koha, and work with the 2.0 team to create bug reports/enahancement requests in bugzilla for the issues that we agree need to be addressed. The meeting will be held 1 Apr 2003 at 1200 PST (GMT-7), and should run for an hour or two. Since it's been almost a year since our last series of IRC meetings about Koha, it's about time to kick off the stretch into a 2.0.0 release with a couple of meetings to let everyone know how things stand. We'd like to break things into two meetings just to keep them managable. Very naive question from a non-librarian

Folks, This is probably going to sound like a very simple question to the real librarians amongst you, but I'd like a little guidance if anyone can spare the time. I'm using Koha to catalogue our family book collection (I hesitate to call it a library). Its about 3000 or so volumes and scattered through various book cases throughout the house. It is vaguely organised by various criteria, like size, suitability for children (low shelves), fiction (by author), non-fiction (roughly by subject) etc. What I would like Koha to tell me is where (bookcase) each volume is located. Which would be the appropriate field in the biblioitem to store this information? If this is a stupid question, then tell me, I'm not a librarian but a computer scientist with an interest in books. Running Installer.pl

Hi, I managed to get all my perl modules installed [hint: install package perl-libnet first], and then ran perl installer.pl When the installer gets to the part about "Enter root password for MySQL server", it never accepts any answer. I can go ahead to /usr/local/mysql, change to super user, and run (for example) ./bin/mysqladmin -u root -h Wilhelm --password=oldpass password 'new password' and modify the password, but apparently when installer.pl tries it, it messes up.
