Hi Everyone, Currently there is a book being written about open source, specifically a book aimed at decision makers, such as IT executives, about the benefits of open source. The books development has been organized and sponsored by the New Zealand Open Source Society. If there is anyone on this list who is involved with the development of Koha, and would like to write a description of the Koha project as a case study in open source development and cooperation in government I would very much appreicate it. Z3950 Problems

I have Koha running on a Sparc platform on Solaris 8. But everytime I try to start the z3950-daemon-launch.sh script it fails after a few seconds with the following error. su: Unknown id: /usr/appl/www/koha/intranet/scripts/z3950daemon/z3950-daemon-shell.sh I've tried just about everything, can't figure out what I'm missing. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks Bryan A. Need Help

I am a novice linux user so I might need simpler explanations, I am running Gentoo Linux and I can install koha but I cannot access the system through the browser. I have koha 1.9 installed I get an error 403, permission denied. I have configured my apache.conf to be set up like the one in the Koha Hints. I can access localhost which displays the apache startup page, I set the OPAC for 8000 and the intranet for 8080, both of which state permission denied. Thanks Stephen

what is the most bug free version of koha ?

hi all, can someone kindly let know me what is the current most bug free version of koha ? ( and where to download it :P ) i m using version 1.2.3. Hi Eli, This is a great question, so I'd like to answer it to a wider audience. There are actually several levels of opportunity here. The simplest (and least organized) would be to just play with a local installation and try to break things then make bug reports at bugs.koha.org. The next step up would be to be an 'acceptance tester', basically this means that you'd be following (and helping to develop) a testing 'script' which you'd follow on each release candidate. This work would be coordinated by a single individual who would be responsible for letting us turn a release candidate into a 'real' release. On the development side, we also need experienced testers to help write code level functional and unit tests for a 'regression test suite'. The plan is that this suite is run at least daily against the Koha code base to ensure that we're not introducing new bugs, or re-opening old ones while we make changes and additions to Koha. We also need to find a single person who's interested (and capable) of coordinating/managing all of these functions. He or she doesn't need to be a programmer, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. I've had a couple of people contact me about various parts of this. I'm currently treading water ... I don't want to move too agressively until we've got a QA manager in place. He Panui Koha 20 Feb 2003 Hello everyone, It's been quite a while since I've put one of these out, so I thought I'd better knuckle down and send something out this week. There's been a lot of activity since the New Year and not all of it has gotten the attention it deserves. In the world of Koha 1.2, Chris and Steve have put out a 1.2.3 release which is seeing a good deal of interest with over 1300 downloads from sourceforge! If you're using Koha and haven't upgraded yet, you might want to check out 1.2.3. Paul has been busy with Koha 2.0 as well. He released 1.9.0 at the beginning of February. This release hase been downloaded nearly 350 times already -- not bad for a beta release! It also looks like a 1.9.1 version is coming up quickly so if you've grabbed a copy of 1.9.0 and not let people know about problems, you should get right on it. Speaking of problems, I'm not sure how many of you know about the Koha bugzilla tool. You can see the tool by looking at http://bugs.koha.org -- you can submit bugs (or feature requests there too). There are currently 47 bugs/feature requests against the development (pre 2.0) version ... Should we have a bug stomping day to try and knock these down? Language support is continuing to move along. I had a request from some Koha users interested in organizing a translation into Breton. If anyone is interested in helping out, please contact me. We've also seen more work on French, Spanish, and Chinese. Koha is getting international notice as well. Nicolas Morin wrote to say: "Koha is getting good publicity in France. In it's Feb 2003 issue, the French monthly periodical ARCHIMAG [www.archimag.com] which is widely read among french librarians and also among "documentation centers" people in businesses, features a 3 pages article on Open Source solutions in this sector. Koha figures quite prominantly and positively in the article, alongside such general purpose softwares as Zope. The article goes into a bit of history, mentionning the beginning of the adventure with Horowhenua and Katipo, back in 2000, it then describes the current features and those that will be available in the upcoming 2.0 release (MARC support), and finally deals with the growing Koha community among french speaking librarians." Linux Journal published an article about Koha in their February issue too. This is driving me nuts...

I have been having a hell of a time with the Auth.pm problem as described in this post, http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2003/001443.html and a possible solution, http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2003/001444.html . I have tried fixing the file with the following modifications with no results: Switched line 179 from this, $sessionID=int(rand()*100000).'-'.time(); to this: $sessionID or $sessionID=int(rand()*10000).'-'.time(); With no luck. Tried JUST $sessionID; ... nope. Anyone wanna enlighten me so I don't have another night of dreaming...user,pass,user,pass,user,pass,user,pass.......... John Croson Confused
