Dear all, Can some developers on the list please help me. We have an existing library system maintained currently as a rudimentary mysql table with a minimum of fields (barcode, authors, title, publisher, year). How best can we import this data into Koha? Does it suffice to write some Perl code to load these values into the biblio, items, biblioitems tables? Or will it break something? Another idea is to just load the relevant fields into the biblio table, without worrying about the items and biblioitems tables. (We are planning to manually look into each record (searching by author or title) and fill in the biblio details with a Z39.50 import, as well as other relevant fields like barcode.) Can some of the experts tell me whether this will work properly, without breaking the way Koha works? We want to have our old data up and running with Koha. Thanks in advance for the help. We are experimenting with Koha in our library, and it is vital that we start on some rudimentary functionality at least. Later when some of us are more familiar with its workings, we can realise its full benefits. But it is taking time, and we need this help urgently. If the above approaches are wrong, can someone please tell me what is the best approach? Thanks in advance, Suresh

Multiple Instances on same server

I'm running Koha 2.2.9 on Debian Etch with Mysql 5.0. All works just fine. However, I need to set up a completely separate libarary for someone and need to host it on the same server. Question is, can you run multiple instances of Koha on the same server? I need the instances to be completely separate based on template customization needs. Scott Leafe

mysql file types

Hey... If you check your mysql folder you'll find a folder called data which holds the databases used with koha. Each table consists of 3 files with extensions, .MYI .MYD and .FRM respectively. I would like some background info on these file types or a proper link to say exactly what these file types are and how they are used. Index error in table - System preference

Hy. My name is Raffaele Gnocchi and i'm tryng to install koha2.2.8 on win xp Prof. After install apache, mysql and php i lunched koha install. Installation appear work well but at the end the table in MYsql KOHA228 doesn't work well. When i open the databese with MYSQL Administrator the program show me a list of error in the table (more or less all the table!) What i have to do ? i don't want leave the project to organize my book and sharing with other researcher. Thank's a lot. Raffaele Gnocchi Italy

Within the etc folder for koha there is a text file called koha, which has info: database=blank228_home hostname=localhost user=koha pass=koha intranetdir=c:\usr\koha228\intranet opacdir=c:\usr\koha228\opac kohaversion=2.2.8 opachtdocs=c:\usr\koha228\opac\htdocs\opac-tmpl intrahtdocs=c:\usr\koha228\intranet\htdocs\intranet-tmpl includes=c:\usr\koha228\intranet\htdocs\intranet-tmpl\default\en\includes -Is the user and password defined here the location where the verification takes place when we log in from the intranet page? I noticed that if I changed either 'user' or 'pass', an error is generated when and the intranet page doesn't load. Someone suggested a method where an instance of mysql.exe is run from the command line followed by: mysql Koha -e 'update user set password=password("abc123") where user="kohaadmin"' I keep getting an error msg when trying to run the mysql.exe error 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'odbc' @' localhost' (using password: NO) -Whats the cause of that? With that done, I also wish to create multiple user accounts for the intranet login. -Is there any way to create several user accounts? I would assume the mainpage.pl script would have to be altered to accommodate the new verifications. I am particularly interested in finding out where the script checks to verify the login information supplied. Any insight into this problem would be much appreciated, esp. as it relates to setting up multiply user accounts. Koha for school districts

Is it possible to use Koha for all the school libraries within a county? Would it be possible to then tie the county libraries in with the school libraries - but you would need to separate the several school branches from the several county branches - they are two separate entities. Anyone in a school can get the book from any other school and the county library system, but non-students are limited to county libraries.
