Sorry for the non-specific subject line, but I'm just the sysadmin, and to me it's just hardware, Linux, and a database. I can barely read, so my best familiarity with books are those with lots of pictures, preferably color. Magazines are even better. OK, the two people we have here working with Koha (3.0 b2) besides me have just scored what they consider a major success, so I thought I'd share it in case it helps others. It involves importing item records in the 999 from Sirsi to the 952 field in Koha. This problem/solution may be well known, so this post may be pointless. The problem was that when importing Marc records from Sirsi which are in the 999 field, Koha saw it as a record, but not an item. Koha only accepts 952, so the TS manager had to create a 952 field in Sirsi, fill in all the bib record info, then when exported that loaded correctly into Koha as an item. Most of the subfields loaded. Those that did not probably needed to match exactly the parameters we've set up in Koha. An example is the branch--she put the branch in as all caps, when in fact we've set the branch as mixed upper and lower case characters. The shelving location also did not load, and she's not sure why since it does match. It did not add it to the holdings because the MARC record that we exported from Sirsi did not include Branch and Location information. We are going to try another with this information. Despite the caveats at the end of the above paragraph, this was a minor breakthrough for us. Maybe we are getting better, and maybe someday we'll be PD good. Source: http://blog.bureado.com.ve/?p=466 Venezuela's National Library evaluated, decided to deploy the Koha Integrated Library System On the first half of 2008, Venezuela's National Library (BNV) evaluated the Koha ILS and other FLOSS-based ILSs, together with a proprietary ILS, and decided to deploy Koha in two phases for the Library's catalogue, which includes more than two million records, and the National Public Library System. The evaluation was made by the Information Technology Office, and starting February 2008, three independent Koha consultants were asked for technical help in order to evaluate Koha strengths and shortcomings, and possible development/improvement plans, as well as an important migration plan from the legacy NOTIS system. Circulation, acquisitions and patrons weren't regarded as critical modules of the ILS, while Cataloguing, Authorities and Serials were given special attention. Ailé Filippi and Mariana González, licensed librarians, deployed a full Koha demonstration and worked for two months with the BNV librarians in order to establish the desired functionality level. BNV librarians wanted a new input system for MARC records which allow them to manually input all fields and subfields, and a very particular notation for holdings which allows to specify the specific Public Library where the item is held. On the other hand, José Miguel Parrella Romero, an IT consultant, worked with BNV's IT Office in order to recommend and install the latest Koha3 snapshot, and configured a working proof of concept using Zebra for more than 70 thousand simulated records. BNV staff export data from NOTIS and use a proprietary tool to convert those records to an ISIS database, so it was necessary to write a computer program which migrates those records to MARC. While the project is currently waiting for further actions, Fernando Báez, BNVs General Manager, and Sergio Teijero, IT Consultant for BNV, have exposed BNV intentions to fully deploy the Koha ILS in short term, migrating over 2 million records and providing access to thousands of Public Libraries and users around the World who would like to access BNV catalogue information using Koha3 OPAC, while renewing BNV's IT platform.

Can't call method "append_fields"

Yes, the previous problem was solved, indeed... I do not understand why I have so many problems installing koha,.. maybe the last years I was too used to Joomla! installations :D So the challenging koha that its concept I so much admire and embrace makes me face another problem. Dear koha developers, I successfully install koha, but after choosing in the beginning of http://localhost:8080 installation procedure the language uk_UA, I got in a koha installation that does NOT use English language. Instead it uses a language with characters like Управління параметрами системи !!! :( How can I change that? Hello to all!... I have successfully installed koha-2.2.9. I can add Members/Organizations and search for them flawlessly, BUT, trying to add a bibliographic records leads me to this error: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
