Using Koha in consortium

Hi Can Koha be used in a consortium environment? Is there any special procedure in setting up the environment? I have just installed the Koha 3.0. It seems that it is a two-level structure: Group and Library. 'Group' is used to indicate a library . 'Library' is actually a branch in a library. In theory, we can set up different 'Groups' for different libary members. But we are using a shared catalog, therefore, we may need a three-level structure. Any advice. Z30.50 error

Purpose of this list?

Hi all, I've been working closely with customers of LibLime on answering usage related questions (how do I catalog a serial, etc). I've suggested that we start a new list for these types of questions, but I've just learned that this list was supposed to be for that purpose and the koha-developer list was supposed to be for the questions of developers and those installing the system themselves (basically those who have server and programming knowledge). I'm wondering what everyone thinks about setting up these boundaries and enforcing them on these lists. Basically, should this list be for Koha usage questions and the Koha Developer list be for those very techie questions about Perl and Linux and installing Koha on your own. Or do we need a different list for this type of thing? And if we create it will it stay that way? Or will it too turn into a list that looks awfully scary to non-programmer librarians. --- Nicole C. Reservoir import file formats

I'm copying this to the list because I don't know what has gone wrong as I am new to importing records using MarcEdit. Anyone know why this reservoir import might not be working? I tried out the sample files attached here and the .mrc file seems to have imported OK (have not checked it line by line). I couldn't import the .mrk file. search function desired added to OPAC

Hello Koha Community. My name is Brad Weishaupt, and I am with a new small seminary (master's-level theological school) that is one year old and under the help and support of four churches. The classes meet in four different cities connected by videoconferencing technology. I am in South Florida USA (in Jupiter, near West Palm Beach), and we have two other campuses in Florida and one in Arkansas. The professor can be in one city and some students are there plus the rest in three other towns. The library is split up accordingly, but its even more complicated than that. I am not a librarian (I'm a techie-musician, but put in charge of this), so I am learning as I go here. We are just starting to catalog our library, and have enlisted the aid of LibLime and Koha to do so. We are a unique (I think) situation - we have a multiple-dispersed library. Under the one umbrella of The Expositors Seminary Library, we have four locations for that library. Also, we are cataloging for student use the church libraries at each location. Also for student use, we are cataloging the pastor/staff members' individual libraries at each church/city. So we have a combined total library, a seminary library in four distinct locations, four church libraries and 10 or so individual staff libraries, for a total of about 16,000 volumes. I will be setting up student records to use their seminary library as their "home" library for default searches (as that will be their main usage), but they will also want access to any other or multiples of any libraries. We want to be able to search the entire library, any particular library, or any library in the student's hometown. I noticed in setup exploration that a library can belong to a GROUP. I setup all my libraries under a group of their city name. The staff page search has the ability to do searches specifying a group. The OPAC does not. This would really be important to our students, to be able to specify a search on books in their own city (Group). The programming coding is already done - it is on the staff page. How hard would it be to copy that code to the OPAC page, so students could set a search parameter on group? Seems like it would be a relatively easy copy and paste function, wouldn't it? (heh-heh! I know programming is seldom that easy!) Does anyone else find value in this function being added to the OPAC search page? Has anyone already done this? So...? What do I do about it? Koha 2.29, HTTP 500 internal server error with Amazon AWS

Hello all, Please cc this email to my email address as I am not subscribed to the list. I would subscribe, but I am setting up Koha for a friend's community elementary school's library, but have no library of my own. :) Problem is: When I enable AWS (Amazon Web Services) with "AmazonContent = 1", any attempt to view a book from search is met with the familiar: "Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request." (etc.) An example of a URL that crashes Koha is this: http://KOHA_SERVER/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?bib=5338 (So the problem seems to be in opac-detail.pl) ---------- When I execute opac-detail.pl directly in the command line: # export PERL5LIB=/usr/local/koha/intranet/modules # /usr/local/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac-detail.pl I get: could not retrieve http://xml.amazon.com/onca/xml3?t=&dev-t=(My_amazon_qws_id)&type=heavy&f=xm… at /usr/local/koha/intranet/modules/C4/Amazon.pm line 64. Either way, I think it's extremely bad that the results of a request to an external website (Amazon.com) had the effect of basically "crashing" Koha. I think Koha really ought to handle this, though I don't actually know if it's something Koha can prevent. So the question is: How do I get AWS to work with Koha? Authority record imports

>From what I read the only way you can import authority records into Koha is through the bulkmarcauthority.pl utility. Just checking! I've tried to import two different files, and keep getting an error message about a Tag " 50" is not valid tag and then the program dies - USMARC.pm line 221. Makes it hard to determine which record is having problems... Has anyone else had success with this utility importing records? DBText conversion to Koha--Patrons

I'm in the process of converting our library from DBText to koha 3.00 RC1 and have a couple of questions about the fields in the patron record. I see address, city and zipcode for the addresses, but no state or country fields. Being in south Florida, we do get a number of Canadians. I'm also curious about why street number and street type are separate fields. We also have a number of flags like 'mailing list' (which indicates whether or not the patron wants to get general mailings) which don't map to anything in the patron record. What format should the dates have? I don't have a sex or date-of-birth field (I'll probably use 1/1/1969 for date of birth which will make everyone 39 years old. They're all adults.) I see that the branch and category codes must be valid for importing patrons. Are there any other fields that are required or checked. I guess that cardnumber, zipcode and surname are required. Field display question

Hi all, there seems to be a limit in the catalogue to how many characters can be displayed in some fields in the OPAC hit list and in opac-detail, for example "publicationyear". Same problem on the corresponding intranet display pages. Is there a way of allowing more of the field to be made visible? If so, where can it be done? We use version 2.2.9 on Debian. opac login error-how to correct
