Re: [Koha] Import items (holdings)
by Library Guy 14 Aug '08

I think MARC BIBs have a maximum size of 64k, so a large number of items could overrun this limit. Question regarding Koha on Windows XP
by nancyczech＠aim.com 14 Aug '08

14 Aug '08

Hi, I am new to Koha and have been testing it out on a 32 bit Windows XP platform.? I set all of my parameters regarding User Rules and Borrower Categories but when I use the circulation module the Members records do not link to the User Rules and Borrower Categories--so none of the limits are applied to the member record.? Does this have something to do with how MySql has been loaded?? or is this an issue with Windows?? Has anyone come across this problem??? And does any have a fix to the problem? Thank you, Nancy Michigan, USA

Another question about: Import items (holdings)
by Linda Culberson 14 Aug '08

We have many collections and series that have thousands of items. Would we have to add a 952 for each item to import these into Koha? Can it handle that many items attached to a single bib record? Koha 3.0 Z3950 Perl install test fails
by Rick Welykochy 14 Aug '08

Hi all, I am installing the freshly released koha-3.00.00. All is going well and I am impressed with the Debian packaing install!!! Much improved. Now ... Perl Z3950 installation. The environment we are in is 100% firewalled from *EVERYTHING* except for one single egress port: port 80. Here is the error: # Failed test 'connection to 'z3950.indexdata.com/gils'' Anyone know which port I must open up for this test to pass? cheers rickw -- ________________________________________________________________ Rick Welykochy || Praxis Services || Internet Driving Instructor The manual said Windows XP/SP2 or better so I installed Linux.

Migrating to Koha
by Grap, Sheila 14 Aug '08

14 Aug '08

Our school district is migrating from TLC to KOHA 3.0. The migration team has a few questions as we start this process. We are using Fedora on the server. Our questions: 1. What information should be set up before importing our records? 2. What special considerations do we need to be aware of when importing the records? 3. When we look at the MARC records that we have exported the branch (schools for us) includes a letter designation after the school number : i.e.: 416 NF, 416 FIC, 416 REF, 416 PRF all the books are at one school. Do we need to set each set as a separate branch or will KOHA just read the 416 as the branch? We have 200 schools to set up as branches and if we have to divide each school into 5 or 6 branches, the typing and set up can be overwhelming. Schools open in about a week and we need to be up and running. I have learnt so much from the this listserv just reading the questions and answers from other members. MARC display - subfield 0 - possible bug
by Janusz Kaczmarek 13 Aug '08

13 Aug '08

Dear Koha Developers, I have noticed that Koha (probably) never displays "0" subfields in librarian MARC view (of course the subfield is not empty nor hidden and it is active). It is probably because of the line: $subf[$i][0] = "@" unless $subf[$i][0]; (line 165 of MARCdetail.pl). (A similar situation in case of line 134 of opac-MARCdetail.pl.) Isn't it a bug? Shouldn't the line be like: $subf[$i][0] = "@" unless $subf[$i][0] ne ""; ? But even if, what is the line for? If the subfield code is changed then probably the subsequent line will cause a 'next'... Regards, Janusz Kaczmarek

Koha with a proprietary frontend?
by Jonas Karlsson 13 Aug '08

13 Aug '08

Hello, I ask on behalf of a a Swedish library that wants to replace it's current ILS with an open-source one as part of an open-source initiative and is considering Koha. The (potential) problem is that they have recently had a custom web-based frontend (opac) created that they are very happy with and do not want to replace with Koha. This frontend is a proprietary solution that neither they nor the company that helped them write it want to take open source. In other words, they want to use the Koha backend with their own frontend (they do realize that they will most likely have to change their frontend to interface properly with Koha.) Would this be a problem from either a legal standpoint (as Koha is GPL-licensed) or a technical standpoint (i.e. is Koha's frontend and backend so tightly integrated it would be difficult to do this)? Has anyone on this list done something like it? Yours, Jonas Karlsson
