Re: [Koha] Installing Koha 3.0.0 on Windows PLUS Koha website update?
by Betsy Law 22 Aug '08

Carmel, Like that old joke, you can run Koha 3 on any platform as long as it's UNIX. Koha 3 for Windows isn't ready yet as far as I know. Here's a link to a recent discussion of the issue: http://www.nabble.com/Windows-install-for-Koha-3-td18758644.html If you have the resources to set up a Linux machine, do give Koha 3 a try. I have the 2.2.9 on Windows on one laptop partition and 3.0.0 on Ubuntu on another and the new release is quite nice. Because it's web-based, you only need the server to run UNIX. The news release does seem to be in error at this time. Can anyone change that? There have been many questions about this subject recently and it seems fair to all involved to give out the best information. This is the page we're talking about: http://www.koha.org/about-koha/news/nr1218407616.html And here is the text: 4. Cross-platform, multi-RDBMS, Web-server agnostic - Run Koha on the platform of your choice: Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Solaris. Koha 3 also includes better support for multi-RDBMS (MySQL 5.0 and PostgreSQL), and runs under Apache2, IIS, or the web server of your choosing. --Betsy On Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 11:24 PM, Carmel Young <carmel.malawi(a)gmail.com> wrote: > We just can't figure out how to Install 3.0.0 on a Windows platform. > The website says that this version is available for 'the platform of > your choice" and we have trawled through the Install notes but have > found no reference to Windows. Bug deleting libraries in preferences?
by Krishnan Mani 21 Aug '08

21 Aug '08

Hello, In the web installer, i chose importing sample libraries and ended up with all the Midways, Centervilles, etc. While editing the list of libraries via System administration, deleting libraries worked the first few times, but stopped and i can no longer delete some of the libraries. I tried creating some more dummy libraries and i can delete them. Is this a bug? i did not find it on Koha's bugzilla. Thanks and regards, krishnan mani Pune, India Unlimited freedom, unlimited storage. Get it now, on http://help.yahoo.com/l/in/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/tools/tools-08.html/

import records and map field to marc
by Jochum van der Heide 21 Aug '08

21 Aug '08

Hi, I'm about to import our 6000 records from an old DOS based library system to Koha 3.0. I understand the best way to do this is using the misc/migration_tools/bulkmarcimport.pl tool after creating the marc file from csv with MarcEdit. Currently all the fields I could export from our old system were the following: Catalogue Record Number (barcode field?) Title 245a Series 440a Author 100a Subject 650a Call number (local) 082ab ISBN 20a Publishing - Name 260b Publishing - Place 260a Publishing - Date 260c Extra 653a? GMD (Item type) 942c What is the best field to use for the barcode? Also the Extra field has some additinal info about the subject of the book. I was thinking this would perhaps fit in 653a. I noticed that by default there are a number of MARC fields mandatory. For example, what is the 000 leader field used for and why is it mandatory? Should I be using those fields or is it save to not make them mandatory? BTW, are there any instructions available on using the bulkmarkimport tool? Thanks, -Jochum

Authorities
by Alejandro Tiraboschi 21 Aug '08

21 Aug '08

We have some questions about the management of authorities. We are running Koha 3.00 and the manual have not to much lines about authorities. We have: Home › Administration › System Preferences > Authorities > BiblioAddsAuthorities = OFF Home › Administration › System Preferences > Authorities > dontmerge = ON 1) Are there plans to implement a Z39.50 client for authorities on Koha? 2) Why sometimes authority search works and sometimes not? The authority records actually are in the mysql database. 3) When I delete a duplicated authority record and I search a term of this record I get an error screen. In fact, before I deleted some duplicated authorities I could do successful authority searches, later I get an error screen, then I run rebuild_nozebra.pl. Now, there is not error screen but authority search don't work. Why? Thank you in advance, Alejandro Tiraboschi FaMAF Universidad Nacional de Cordoba Argentina OPAC: biblio.famaf.unc.edu.ar

Re: [Koha] import records and map field to marc

Barcode is mapped to 952p Keywords would be 653a I have changed the parameters in Koha to remove most of the mandatory requirements. The only ones I left are 245a (Title), 942c (Item Type) and Barcode (952p) I never found info on how to use the bulkmarcimport tool. Just keep trying to run the program until the records all loaded. We found our installation was easier by breaking the MARC records into smaller chunks. Took a few minutes longer, but worth the wait when a couple of the batches had glitches. Thanks to Government of Kerala, and how to add your library to libwebcats
by Tina Burger 20 Aug '08

20 Aug '08

Here's a thanks to the *Government of Kerala *for making their press release available on http://librarytechnology.org http://librarytechnology.org is a website run by a widely-read U.S. researcher (Marshall Breeding) who tracks ILS usage across all continents. Inclusion on his website results in more accurate reporting on Koha usage in articles written by Marshall as well as other journalists and researchers who use his site to gather data. I encourage all who are using Koha or plan to use Koha to send press releases to Marshall at: marshall.breeding(a)vanderbilt.edu ... and to add their library/s to the libwebcats database on his website. To add a library to libwebcats: - go to http://librarytechnology.org - 'register' by following the "Register" as an Library Technology Guides member at the bottom of the left hand column - after registering, click on 'libwebcats' (left hand column, 4th link down) - search for your library using the search box provided (someone may have already added you!) - if your library is not found, click 'submit a library' - fill out the form to the best of your ability and click 'submit entry to libwebcats' at the bottom of the page Remember: Make sure to fill out the 'current automation field' with Koha so the Koha statistics are accurate If your company is not listed as a Koha provider, feel free to write Marshall and request to be added. Feel free to email me directly if you have any questions about this (I've used his site many times!) Cheers, Tina -- Tina N.
