Holds to pull question
by Rich Boulet 12 Jun '09

12 Jun '09

Hello Everyone: I remain confused about how the 'Holds to Pull' report, linked at the circulation menu of our Koha (3.01.00.014) installation. Our main objective is to be notified about new hold requests in a manner that is free of clutter. So here is what happens: About 3 or 4 times a day we check that report to see what new requests have been sent in by our patrons. Normally we retrieve new items from the shelf (after changing the date range of the report to include the latest requests), and scan them into the check in function at the circ desk. This triggers the hold message and we then print and confirm the hold. Wouldn't you think that this would remove the items from that report, if not instantly, then at least within a few hours? Is that how this report is supposed to work? If so, what need to happen to remove satisfied holds from this report. Oh, and the kicker is that for some reason, only certain items stay on the holds to pull report. For example we currently have holds to pull report that looks like this (assuming and hoping this list accepts images): Yet we have already confirmed the holds for each of the items, and their statuses appear to be correct in the catalog. Why are these items remaining on the report? Any suggestion appreciated. Thanks, Rich Boulet Richard Boulet Library Director Blue Hill <http://www.bhpl.net/> Public Library 207.374.5515x13

If patron-authored tags are enabled, where are these stored? I don't believe they're anywhere in the MARC record. Thank you, Cab Vinton, Director Sanbornton Public Library Sanbornton, NH

Setting Up Zebra on Ubuntu 8.04
by Roche III, Edward 12 Jun '09

12 Jun '09

I am having an issue with setting up Zebra. I got it to work on a prior install but can't seem to get it to work this time. Here is what I am doing: * I selected Zebra during Koha Makefile * I was able to install all the modules except for the NET::LDAP * I selected Zebra during Koha configuration in the browser * $ sudo ln -s ${SCRIPT_DIR}/koha-zebra-ctl.sh /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon * $ sudo update-rc.d koha-zebra-daemon defaults * $ sudo ${SCRIPT_DIR}/koha-zebra-ctl.sh start I keep getting update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon: file does not exist. I have conformed the file is there. Any thoughts? Thanks Ed Edward J. Reference books & books for loan
by Ondrej Mlecka 12 Jun '09

12 Jun '09

In our library, there's a big part of books which a patron can read inside of the library but which are not available for loan. There's another part of the library which contains books for loan. I would like to ask how is it possible to distinguish these categories in Koha. If I simply check the "Not for loan" field for items which are for referene only, the OPAC search summary displays "No copies available" (but they are available, but not for loan). I could also define that for ex. that books are not for loan (in the "Item types and circulation" settings). But in this case I can't distinguish books which are for loan. Would anyone know how to resolve this difficulty? Thanks Ondrej Mleca Casa Balthasar Roma

Importing and updating bibliographic records
by Sébastien Hinderer 12 Jun '09

12 Jun '09

Dear list, My library wishes to use koha and so we have to inject our existng catalog into koha. Our current catalog is stored in a mysql database and we already have the necessary tools written in Perl to play with the records in the database. The strategy I have in mind for doing the migration is to convert all our bbliographic records to UNIMARC using the MARC::Record tool and then import it into koha. I have several questions. 0. Does this strategy look correct to you ? 1. According to perldoc MARC::Record, it seems that the module can handle only USMARC and MicroLIF styles. Is one of these two okay for handling UniMarc and, if yes, which one ? 2. After the initial import has been done, we will certainly want to refine it by using data from our national library, sch as leaders for instance (?), or perhaps or initial import won't be complete and we will want to add other things we did not at first to keep the first import possible. So, is the incremental modification of records possible and how ? Wil we have to export the records to marc, then modify them and re-inject them, or is it recommended to do things another way ? Please consider that I know nothing concerning the tomic I'm trying to address in this post and don't hesitate to give pointers to things you thnk I should read. Many thanks in advance for any help, Sébastien.

Newbie problem: Can't establish connection to OPAC
by David Greenberg 12 Jun '09

12 Jun '09

HI, I finished installing koha last night and I can login to the admin (8080) section just fine, but when I try to connect to the public side on port 80 I get a browser error saying it can't establish a connection to the server. Any thoughts on this? I hope there is an easy solution; the installation was enough of an adventure. TIA. A plugin for searching a value in other biblios?
by Ondrej Mlecka 12 Jun '09

12 Jun '09

Hi all, has anyone programmed a plugin which would search - during the cataloguing - values of a field in other biblios? For example, if I want to insert a Series Title (MARC21 440), the plugin would search series titles inserted in other biblios. Thank you Ondrej Mlecka Rome
