Sponsorship for staff XSLT
by David Schuster 17 Jun '09

http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=2165 http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=2771 Plano ISD is working to sponsor this item - it is driving me nuts I don't want to modify MARC to be able to see the subfields n/p or b for that matter in the staff side when doing searches. Very difficult in placing holds in which the items are cataloged under the series title - ie $aBONE $bDeath wish or whatever the remainder is or if it is in the p and you can't see it. I believe this will open up opportunities for future customizations as well. I hope the information will display both on the listing of titles page and the individual bib screen.(don't have the spec yet on this...) Re: [Koha] Authority and Biblios import

Hi to all, At 08.35 16/06/2009, Ondrej Mlecka wrote: >I would like to import authorities (cca 2.800) data and then biblios >with links to this authorities. Is there any way to assure this link? If yes, the problem is the way you insert values into 001 of Auth an in 100$9 of Biblio. The script bulkauthimport.pl doesn't use the values in 001 in the import. I read the code and bulkauthimport.pl (and the related funcitons in C4) inserts an incremental values in 001 during the import. So the first record receive the value 1, the second the value 2, etc. So you need to insert values in 001 using incrematal values (1,2,3,4,5, etc.) and with incremental order in the import file for Auth. Migrate Alice for Windows
by Seth Mayo 17 Jun '09

17 Jun '09

Has anyone migrated Alice for Windows to Koha? Alice for Windows hasn't been working right in our school for while and I'm looking to change to Koha. However I haven't been able to get the exported MARC file to import. Unfortunately I don't know much about MARC but basically what I've done is the following. 1. Used the Alice for Windows 'Export to MARC' function to dump a MARC 21 .dat file 2. Set up the environment variables for bulkmarcimport.pl 3. Run bulkmarcimport.pl to import the data which returned that 21000 odd items were imported 4. Found there were no more items in the database than before. 5. Tried uploading it to import through the 'reservior' method and it gave me a report that there were the same number of records but that there were MARC errors on each one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Salvete! >The original message was not quite on-topic for this list, which after >all is primarily for the discussion of Koha, and I second MJ's >recommendation of CODE4LIB. I also recommend submitting such news to >http://www.oss4lib.org/. That said, I don't mind if occasional >announcements of major milestones in other F/OSS ILS projects are >posted here. > *nod* I'd consider that original post a nice head's up, and I can't remember the last time someone posted about a new system. It wasn't quite off topic, either - not about cats or knitting or the like. Frequency would be the key, I agree, but at maybe once a year, I don't think that's an issue. I could see checking a person that's routinely used this forum to post progress frequently about someone else's project, but that's not what we have here. Climate wise I'd rather not drive people off that might be involved in more than one OS project; they're important bridges. "More is different" if we want things to emerge. >I agree that cooperation with other F/OSS library software projects, >including ILSs, is a good thing, but I don't think we should be driven >by a fear of reinventing wheels. Different projects have different *nod* The pickle of innovation is that it almost has to happen quickly and spontaneously. It's driven by need, so I don't think we should balk for fear of reinventing wheels. However, I do think we should consciously cherry pick good code from other OS projects if it's possible to do so. I know I've wanted to see the deduplication for authorities that I saw at a demonstration about eXtensible Catalogue somehow work its way into Koha. Planning again: should we have a liaison or liaisons to other OS projects to make us aware of good developments in other people's backyards? >emphases and there isn't a global consensus on how to build the One >True ILS. What we should strive for is avoiding *unnecessary* >wheel-reinventing. I don't think there will ever be a one size fits all ILS for the planet, as nice as that notion might be. That *unnecessary* is very important, and I agree. Cheers, Brooke

Koha OPAC not populated?
by Amy Schuler 16 Jun '09

16 Jun '09

Hello, First, I would like to offer a belated thanks to Ian, Nora, and Brooke for helping me out with my 952 $o problem a few weeks ago. With their help, I found a regular expression that moved the LC call numbers to $o. Now I have run into a new challenge. I *think* I have gotten my 952 holdings statement correct, and have staged & successfully imported my MARC records into Koha. In the staff client I can see the bib records as well as the holdings information (call number - status - last seen - barcode). However, on the OPAC side, there is nothing. I search for known titles and authors, but there is nothing in the OPAC. I am not sure if there is still some problem with the items/holdings information in my 952s, or if there is a problem with my system settings. I tried adding a 952$a (location) to the records but this seemed to mess things up even more (couldn't see any holdings info on staff client side when I did this). So I don't have a location or "item type" in my holdings statement, and if these are needed, I cannot seem to get them in the right way. Also, don't know if this is related, but I still see "No_Library_Set" in the upper right hand corner of my staff client (even though I am logged in). I have pasted one of my MARC records, below. I welcome any advice you can offer to help me get my OPAC populated. Thanks! Hello Vimal, I don't see why just an announcement about another open source ILS is unfair on the list. My view has always been that open source projects must be aware and try to make the best of other competing or non-competing products that try to fulfill similar needs. It was refreshing to learn about Senayan. Some days, i have to pinch myself and know that there are alternatives to Koha. regards, krishnan --- On Mon, 15/6/09, Vimal Kumar <vimal0212(a)gmail.com> wrote: From: Vimal Kumar <vimal0212(a)gmail.com> Subject: [Koha] Senayan Library Management System: Sorry for the wrong submission To: "Koha-List" <koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz> Date: Monday, 15 June, 2009, 3:40 PM Dear Friends, Sorry for the message titled “Senayan Library Management System” appeared in this discussion forum from me.
