holds and multiple branches

Hello, We are currently running one installation of koha (3.0.x) for 10 branches. Our librarians are getting frustrated by the current behavior of holds. Particularly in situations where multiple branches contain the same book. They would like a way to place a hold on the next available item in a specific branch. I see the preferences "canreservefromotherbranches" and "IndependantBranches" but I am a little confused about what exactly these will change. Currently we have "canreservefromotherbranches" set to On and IndependantBranches set to Off. I am not sure if toggling these preferences will give us the desired holds behavior. I am also concerned about changing IndependantBranches. I thought I read IndependentBranches should not be changed after the system is in use. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Item type icons display problem in OPAC

Hi All, First I would thank you all for your inputs. We are running Koha version 3.00.00.107. We have also enabled XSLTDetailsDisplay and XSLTResultsDisplay, thus item type with icons can be displayed in OPAC search results. We are also entering the required data in leader (MARC Field 000). Now, it seems that, type icons are prefixed. like in search result page there can be only below types for icons. Book Mixed Materials Computer File Map Visual Material Sound On the other hand, We have also defined some custom types in administration module . like Reports, Project Documents, etc.. which appears on "place hold" page. Is there any way we can display these icons ( appearing on "place hold" page ) on OPAC Search Result page ?? Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. :-) Having to watch your bank account closely and be cautious about who sees your cheques and transfer details is another overhead cost which I feel means the Koha community should seriously consider being based outside the US, in some country with a better banking system. I have had trouble with cash in Europe so it isn't just the US. I won't get into but I couldn't even get gasoline and train tickets with cash or credit in 2 different European countries. I am not really advocating for the USA but I don't think your particular concerns are reasons not to do it there. Call for use of wiki to discuss Koha foundation

We have been provided a place where data on a Koha association/foundation/organization can be gathered, organized and commented on. (Thanks to those who set this up.) I'm only repeating what others have said--the Koha list and the IRC are not the best places to work out the issues surrounding the establishment of an organization. Effectively, I'm calling for an end to this discussion on the list particularly since it has not always been civil and/or productive. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Category:Koha_Foundation I think that we all have the same goals here: - Establish a foundation/association/organization to oversee the Koha assets - Gather all of the assets together We should all be able to work together to make this happen. subscription prediction setting the third variable..

Hi all and anyone in the mailing list: I would like some help with setting up the third dimension variable in the subscription prediction advanced module. I am right now running Koha 3.0.6 Live CD install via VirtualBox. I was trying to do this with the following two examples: 1. Quarterly (4/yr.) title, and the subscription starts with Volume 1, Number 1, 2005. 2. 10/yr. title, and subscription starts with Vol.5, No.7, 2008. So this looks like Vol. {X}, No. {Y}, {Z} (say, Vol.2, No.3, 2006) It is not clear what values I have to set the "inner count" and "set back to" rows for the {Z} (i.e., the year). (No matter what combination of all these I tired for {Z}, it either messes up the other two columns or it fails to increment the year as it should.) There is an example in the FAQ but it does not work when I tried it exactly as it was shown. But there are no other examples anywhere else in the documentations with the {Z} filled in. LibLime is very encouraged at the amount of positive discussion that our post has generated and I will attempt to answer some of the questions that have been raised. We agree that Kohacon could be a very appropriate and productive forum to expand discussions on how to best set up a Koha Foundation. I would request that preliminary discussions start prior to that if possible, so that we would have a better sense of the agenda and the preparation required for Kohacon. Would it be possible to hold a meeting of some kind in the next few weeks? I will continue to be involved in the Koha Foundation process, but I have asked Amy DeGroff to be the LibLime spokesperson as the discussions evolve through the IRC and the list to make sure we do not miss any pertinent information/communications. Amy and Patrick Jones are key members of our LibLime staff that will also be supporting this process. LibLime has minimal preconceived mandates for the Koha Foundation except that it be a new formal non-profit organization that is only involved with Koha. We believe that US 501 (c)(3) laws are advantageous for non-profit corporations and that this type of a corporation would be very appropriate for the Koha Foundation. This fact was also referenced by another individual on the list yesterday. We will want to see typical governance documentation agreed upon and developed such as a Charter and Bylaws. LibLime, as one of multiple asset donors, will want to participate as an active and voting member of the Foundation. Finally, per a recent post, LibLime will contact the attorney of Metavore Inc., LibLime’s former corporate parent to see if the Koha 503C corporation created in 2009 will be transferred as a part of the LibLime asset purchase that PTFS made from Metivore Inc. in March of this year. Hello, I am not promoting establishment of a Koha foundation under U.S. tax laws in preference to incorporation in some other country, but with respect I believe some of the concerns about use of the U.S. IRS 501-c-3 status are not entirely accurate. I have some experience in that area having established several 501-c-3 organizations including most recently a library foundation in 2009. While it certainly does take some time to gain that status the process is not inherently difficult, simply detailed and time consuming. The terms "public charity" and "private foundation" have particular meanings in tax law, primarily related to their sources of funding, but either is a fully tax-exempt organization. Probably the funding sources of a Koha organization would lead to its having the status of a private foundation. Any 501-c-3 is also incorporated in a U.S. state as a not for profit corporation, an extremely simple process. An association is really not a meaningful legal term, so a Koha Association could in fact be legally established as a foundation. The distinctions in governance and control that are of obvious concern would depend upon the bylaws and some details of the 501-c-3 application, rather than than either its name, or its legal status as a charity or foundation. I understand that there are connotations to words that might make the Koha community more comfortable with a particular name for the organization. That would present no obstacle to the 501-c-3 process. I repeat that I am not personally expressing any preference for the country in which the organization would be incorporated. I have confidence in the Koha community being able to come to a good decision on that in the process that seems to be underway.
