Has anyone come across any issues with printing barcodes on standard Avery5160 labels, through a laser printer? Smudging, etc? Would appreciate any recommendations otherwise. I know there are clear label protectors as well. Thanks Caitlin McGurk Head Librarian The Center for Cartoon Studies McGurk(a)cartoonstudies.org

Koha Installation Docs
by Nicole Engard 15 Nov '10

15 Nov '10

I have been getting a series of Tweets regarding Installation Documentation and while I am Doc Manager, this is not an area I have ever really focused on (nor do I have much experience with it). I wanted to share these with you all in case you know how to resolve some of the issues in question. -------- bigbrovar Bobby: if there is one thing #koha needs desperately its documentation. just watched 3 weeks of work go down the drain due to bad docs :( nengard Nicole Engard @bigbrovar I'd be interested in what documentation you were using and what you found bad about it ... #koha bigbrovar Bobby: @nengard http://is.gd/h1Bhg I think it could be more detailed. lots of assumptions that the users is skilled in koha bigbrovar Bobby: @nengard we have a solidly working koha 3.0.6 on ubuntu 8.04 which I installed from source because the docs was top notch. bigbrovar Bobby: @nengard another missing gap from this doc http://is.gd/h7vh6 is the lack of info on the koha commands koha-create etc no man pages nothing bigbrovar Bobby: @nengard also after I create a koha instances with koha-create who do I log and setup the instance? nothing is said about that. its really bigbrovar Bobby: @nengard documentation and frankly a waste of time. Koha could really do with a better documentation. which I could help but knowledge is bigbrovar Bobby: @nengard very limited. another day another debian server install due to incomplete docs. is there a good docs on how to install from src? bigbrovar Bobby: anyone knows a good docs on how to setup #koha 3.2 on linux (ubuntu/debian) the current doc http://is.gd/h7vh6 is so incomplete Thanks Nicole

As anyone ever looked into the usefulness of this code. It is code for doing self-check-out on Sirsi symphony with a WAMP server. Maybe not useful but in case it is...I thought I'd share it. http://code.google.com/p/open-source-self-check/ Lori

koha bugs
by Caitlin McGurk 15 Nov '10

15 Nov '10

Hello everyone, I'm currently working on a proposal for a Koha system for my library, and trying to get a handle on where and how frequently bugs are come across in the system. I will be installing and maintaining it myself with no vendor help or IT department, and am a bit worried on the sort of bugs that I will come across in the process as well as when running it in the future. Do the main issues lie in upgrading? Or are daily problems often found within the system? Truly hoping this is the right solution for us Caitlin McGurk Head Librarian The Center for Cartoon Studies mcgurk(a)cartoonstudies.org

Add new option to OPAC user menu
by Vitor Fernandes 15 Nov '10

15 Nov '10

Hello. I've added an new option in the OPAC user menu where the user can change his reading preferences. The reading preferences is a custom attribute created for the effect. The problem is that the OPAC uses Javascript to change the interface, but when the user select the new option reading preferences the all page is reload. I know that the problem is that I'm not using Javascript to do the page change, but I don't know where and which JavaScript file I need to change. Thanks for your time. Regards. Vitor Fernandes

Upgrading from 3.0.6 to 3.2
by Martin Longo 15 Nov '10

15 Nov '10

Hello list ... Today I was testing around the new koha 3.2 release (very last 3.02.00.004)... trying to upgrade our current production Koha (3.0.6) ... I just droped the new database and loaded the old one, to see if updatedatabase.pl would take all the work on it's shoulders... And it did... almost. In step 3 I had a lot of errors and I'd like to know if someone has faced the same situation and have any tips on the matter. Most of them refer to duplicated entries and already present tables (could I assume that that's not a big problem?) except for this two (that seems to be a little more troublesome): * [Wed Nov 3 13:10:16 2010] updatedatabase.pl: DBD::mysql::db do failed: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near './koha-tmpl/opac-tmpl/prog/en/xslt/MARC21slim2OPACResults.xsl,'YesNo')' at line 2 at /home/koha/koha-clone/installer/data/mysql/updatedatabase.pl line 3449. * [Wed Nov 3 13:10:16 2010] updatedatabase.pl: DBD::mysql::db do failed: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near './koha-tmpl/opac-tmpl/prog/en/xslt/MARC21slim2OPACDetail.xsl,'YesNo')' at line 2 at /home/koha/koha-clone/installer/data/mysql/updatedatabase.pl line 3453.
